Healthy Mood Altering Narcotics?

Now, I am not a drug addict or anything, but when it comes to subsiding pain and things of that nature narcotics work pretty well. I often hear about how narcotics usually take their toll on us after some time. I repeat I am not an addict, but ever since I've heard of DMT I've wondered if there are any mood altering drugs that can give you a big buzz and still be good for you health wise. Imagine feeling euphoric whenever you want with the usual backlash.
