I'm new too! I'm really hoping I can find a lot of useful tips on this forum! It also sparked my interest. I don't think I could ever learn enough about survival.

And it seems that people are willing to share information which helps a person feel included.

Welcome aboard Finman. Wanting to share & being a part of a group is a need for a lot of people, but don't believe everything you read. You still have to use those grey cells of yours to figure out which is right & which is wrong. Experience is the best teacher Finman.

Good one. Are you old school, primitive skills or do you use modern gadgets in your Scouting?

Well we use fire rods and matches and we build shelters and we sleep in tents as well but not much primitive skills because that needs special training . So i can say well it is probably a mix of modern stuff and old school.

A pity, so many of the old skills are not being practiced anymore. I am a primitive skills instructor, these days I mostly teach through videos, but many years ago I used to teach the NSW Scouts at their annual camp about 100 klm away from where I live. They wanted the Scouts to be taught the old skills, such as flint, steel & tinderbox fire lighting & fire-bow fire lighting. I hope some of those Scouts still remember how.

Yes i know it is pity but i would like to learn more about primitive skills my self but these classes here in Sweden are expensive and it is few who teach these kind of skills. And with my financial status i can´t afford to pay for it so because a primitive skill class would cost me a couple of thousand probably something between 5000-7,500 kr in my currency and in dollar it would be probably 500$-750$.

Believe me it is not hard to learn flint & steel fire lighting & the rest of the fire lighting skills such as wet weather fire lighting & plant & fungi tinders simply takes time & practice, no money!
Check out my videos & feel free to ask any questions if you need any help. You may also want to check out my primitive fire lighting book, it costs only a few Aust dollars by ebook. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHEOMSZJETfj3GnoyONuvCQ?view_as=public
