Pemmican is an 18th & 19th century survival food. Some years ago a parcel of pemmican was dug up from a 19th century cache. After cutting away several inches from the outside, the pemmican inside was found to be still edible.

Twenty to thirty years, impressive, didn't know this 18th & 19th century survival food, but it seems that is the ultimate food in terms of duration. It packs a lot of nourishment with the few ingredients it is made: half rendered fat, other half of shredded dehydrated meat and a little dried and ground berries by weight. Technically you can survive eating just pemmican and drinking water. The May Tee were pretty unique people group indeed.
