I note that some people get confused between what is tinder & what is kindling. This may have come about with the introduction of the Ferocerium Rod, which has also been called mistakenly "Flint & Steel" or "Fire Steel"!
Tinder is a plant material that will catch & hold a spark struck from a high carbon steel striker when making fire with flint, steel & tinderbox.
Kindling is a light burnable material such as dry grass, some tree barks or wood shavings etc. Kindling it what you start a fire with before adding larger pieces of wood.

tinder is what you use to start a fire.
kindling is what you put on the fire once it is lit.
