The best time to farm would be when you have set up a comfortable shelter and have a good source of fresh water. Also, the season matters a lot towards your plant and when it grows best. You should farm when you want to harvest large amounts of vegetables so that you can eat them, trade them or sell them. It's also good to farm whenever you can because a supply of food is very important. It would also be good to farm when you have the correct tools because not having the right tools will lead to you not being able to take care of your crops. When you know, there is a drought coming your way would also be a good time to farm as much as you can while you still have the availability of water. When your crop is in danger of any potential threats that might be a good time, harvesting your crops early if you have to. Before you start farming it is also important to make sure that you have enough hands to take care of it all. Farming is not an easy task and requires a lot of time, hard work and dedication to be successful.

Just to let people know now is a good time to think about starting seeds inside and getting them into a cold frame outside by the end of February or the first couple of months of March. Mostly your cool weather veggies like cabbage and broccoli.

we will only be able to farm once "the dust has settled" and its safe to work outside, if your growing plants then you will need a stock of "heritage" seeds as commercial seeds are hybrid and wont grow true, you cannot save seed from commercial plants as they are infertile after the original sowing.
you may be looking at 12 -18 months before you get any harvest depending on when the SHTF-what season of the year it happens.
