When, Why, and Where You May Need to Know How to Build a Fire

Building a fire is not something that is very hard to do. There are many different situations in which you may find yourself needing to build a fire. Perhaps you may be spending some recreational time in the woods with family and friends or maybe you are building a fire to spend some quality time with a loved one cuddled up with some cocoa or wine. There could be other situations that call for building a fire such as an emergency survival situation where one is required for heat, to cook food on, or just as comfort in a frightening time.

In order to start a fire, you will want to have some small items to burn such as dry sticks or small branches. You will want to make sure your wood is not fresh off of a tree or green so that it will start nicely. Using a small amount of dry material such as pine, straw, paper, or even small bits of dried dead wood will help to ignite your fire.Start with something light and flammable and once you have that burning add in your small twigs and sticks on top of it. Remember not to suffocate or smother it. Using a pyramid or house set up such as a lincoln log pattern often times prove to be the most successful. Learning to start a fire is a useful talent as you never know when you may need one.
