Added a commenting system for posts. You can now keep the threads cleaning by putting smaller comments nested underneath posts.

For the forum software, can you add a link to the bottom that will take you back to the top of the page? I'm a lazy scroller.

Some forum software allows the writer to choose his favorite font in his/her description settings. Is that something that can be added here? It's just a preference of mine on the font that I use.

A lot of people don't care about those. Just a personal preference of mine.

I would like to suggest the following categories of survival subjects:
    Shelter
    Water
    Food
    Medical
    Security
    Transportation
    Bug Out Gear (BOB)
Individual Carry Equipment (every day carry)
Knives (style size, shape, and retailer)
    Bush-craft
    Contingency Planning
    Scenarios
    Live To Tell About It

Gary could have covered this under transportation. Some would say this is the way that you BO. I think it should include 4x4s or Side-by-Sides. Many people feel they are invulnerable with their 4x4 and they take nothing if for some reason it won't start, or that it gets stuck somewhere (mud, snow, turned over, between trees). It might be interesting to add.

I hate to keep bugging, but one thing to remember when surviving is what the surroundings might be, like coyotes, bears, urban dogs and packs, and thug packs, etc. And what to do.

since this site is global , would it be possible to put members in the same area in touch with each other or sort of put them in the same grouping, geographically . If people are here to learn and to support each other, would it be a good idea ?

How about some thumbs up indicators or thanks indicator for a person to tell the poster that we appreciate their message/thought? I'd like to give the other guy a friendly indicator that I learned something good from what they posted.

How about a way to rate another persons posts or rate them in general?

Also may I suggest a few things?

    Categories:
Tutorial Section - where we can post up tutorials of skills, teaching others via videos or step by step posts
Misc Subforum - Where we can get to know each other on a more personal level, where we can post links to other places we visit or blogs or talk about our work or whatnot, just some place to chat freely without being worried about breaking TOS about it.

    Misc:
    A blog.
I'm a blogger/writer. I love it. I love reading other peoples blogs. It seems like you have a lot to teach us or say, a blog for the website that others can comment or read might be really beneficial and attract more people who are less social to the site.

I have a suggestion for a new category — a general survivalist category. That way if something may not fit in any of the other categories/boards they could post it there. Or General Q&A board could broadened so even if one does not have a question but they have something that could interest all preppers they could post it there.

I think tutorials would be nice as well. There is nothing better than learning from an actual video. Could there be more basic information for the newbies like a list of the terms often used in this forum and their meaning? Ex: prepping and canning

I believe that this will be of much help for our fellow writers. We are learning a lot of things in this community and it's a must that someone should write something about our learnings here from the best survival minds that we have.

Branch, how about automatic expulsion for the next person who begins a post about fictional cannibalistic zombies? At least until they've grown up?

Well at least the zombie scenario can be related to cannibalism & the hoards of people wandering the landscape looking for food & raiding properties. Zombie posts are preferred to many other pointless posts on here such as "what do we do if the earth runs out of oxygen"!!! AND "the best place to hide in a SHTF situation is a supermarket"!!! o_O

I will necropost here for a simple suggestion. In my personal opinion prepping includes being able to repair your own vehicles. Perhaps a mechanics section that covers basics and a more advanced area for engine or transmission rebuilds or removal and install as well. Some people have no clue how to change a tire or do basic tune-ups. I feel that a section like this would be very helpful for the younger preppers who do not have any idea about a vehicle other than to get in and drive. Information based off of year make answer model. Yes there are books for this but a section here could help those with no clue.

How about a forum just for people to ask for repair advice on anything that they have that needs repair. I know that we have a lot of people with skills on this board.

Would there be any interest in a place to post fiction that is original fiction about survival and surviving possible end of the world scenarios?

In my own forum (a computer forum) I have a subforum called Grease Monkey. That might be a great title. I also have a Handy Man subforum.

Some constructive criticism. I don't know if it's Xenforo or what, but it's like a script on here makes the site load slow or Temp pause before links I open in multiple tabs open. It appears you have some sort of anti-spam script. I've seen it work in action trying to edit my post beyond four times or whatever it was. You really need to just use the Stop Forum Spam database and query that database on registration or login. Maybe you do already, not sure. Also, I can't remember if you have it, but on registration the use of at least Google Recaptcha could go a long way on preventing spam. On my own forum I have a sortables captcha and it has never been defeated. Albeit, I use a lot of spam prevention techniques. I also query the Stop Forum Spam database on registration and login. And all first time posts are held in moderation que. So nothing can get past.

You may want to pull out Chrome and look at its Dev Tools and see what scripts are taking the longest to load.

most modern vehicles cannot be repaired with out a computer unit to diagnose the problem, anyway I don't see the point when post SHTF there wont be any petrol left.

    Lone Wolf,

Your point above invoked some memories from the 2nd half of the Cold War.

Besides my day job (actually 24/7 in Asia) was also a Reservist.

One of the Cold War plans involved NATO use of the refinery at Bantry Bay, Ireland, near you.

The plans, as typical, mirrored Superman always having a phone booth available to change into flying suit with cape !

Refineries are power eating monsters! They are also massive consumers of all sorts of resources and have a massive labor force. I can't imagine how they would keep one running for very long with the power grid down and the people unable or unwilling to desert their families to go to work in a national crisis. A refinery is actually several different locations. You have a tank farm where raw crude is stored. Then you have the various units that work sort of like a still to "cook" off the various chemicals. one at a time. At this stage, the various chemicals have to be removed and stored for later further processing. Gasoline is a blend of chemicals. Another place is where the different refined chemicals are blended to make the final products. AT ANY point in this there can be no stoppage allowed.

I don't think that this sort of thing will be possible in the long term power shortage and it isn't one of those things that can just be shut down and restarted.
