I have a Henry 22 long rifle which I dearly love to shoot ❣️ I'm very accurate with most firearms but with my Henry, even more so. There's literally no "kick" & I'm "dead on" at most distances incl. a little over 100 yards. Anyone else who might own a Henry 22 Cal rifle, would love to hear your input❣️

I haven't any time to write right now, but I am ever so looking forward to reading everyone's contributions. I love accuracy. I love .22 rifles. I own a bunch. Different purpose = different rifle.

Grandfather put food in table with his revolver -- he was deadly with a handgun. For my dad, it was the pool cue. I've seen dad shoot billiards and I've watched Willie Mosconi shoot. OK, so Willie was a bit better at shooting pool. If you watched Jackie Gleason in "The Hustler", then you've met my dad. The two guys looked a whole lot alike, big heavy guys, big thick hands.

Me, I live small bore rifle shooting, high school rifle team captain, all that. Anschutz target rifles to plinking rifles, I love them, I own them. I always love learning more about them.

I love .22 LR guns! I have two 10-22's: one an 18" takedown and another one with a bull-barrel, 3 X 9 scope and a Kidd trigger. I would like someday to tap a 1/2" X 28 TPI thread onto the takedown's breech so I could install a suppressor, but I don't know if a subsonic LR cartridge would cycle the action.

Needless to say, if I had one choice of a survival rifle it would definitely be one in .22LR.

The subsonic rounds likely wouldn't cycle your 10-22 though I'd like to try the Agulilla 60 grain rounds in mine. Would it really matter though? If your 10-22 was a silent single shot or a quieter semiautomatic there would still be a benefit.

I was under the impression that a lot of target grade .22 long rifle ammo was subsonic...versus the high velocity stuff.

Best way to find out would be to run some subsonic through a 10-22 without a suppressor and find out if it will properly cycle.

That is also why I have switched over the years to bolt actions, lever rifles, and pumps to where I control the cycling....not the ammo.

I have a 5/8 -24 die and also a 1/2 - 28....as well as taps for the same. That is a very fine thread pitch.

Also over time I want to get several re crowning tools.

From video's I have watched (YMMV) many subsonic ammo's will cycle a 10-22. CCI standard velocity ammo is rated at 1070 FPS (according to my memory) and that is below the sound barrier, depending on your location. Caribou is correct that if the ammo will cycle the action without a suppressor, then you should be good to go with a suppressor. The suppressor will create more back pressure to help cycle the action, at least that is my understanding. Worth testing out a few boxes of subsonic ammo. You can always build your own suppressor AFTER WROL event.

I just bought some subsonic .22 LR ammo made for semi-autos. I've a .22 LR target rifle, bull barrel, and I run subsonic ammo through it. Cycles fine. Target handgun also I have.

Ammo that is down at or below 800 ft/sec, now that stuff will put you at risk of getting failures to cycle.

I just bought some of the following "target" ammo (plinking for me, nowadays). This ammo is just above 800 ft/sec and I've yet to test it. It is 45 grains which gives me more confidence. :

One can always have faith in Eley ammo. You'll pay for it, however if you really care about accuracy then you'll cough up the dough.

The Agulilla 60 grainers will keyhole when fired out of some handguns and rifles. If you have this ammo, test in in several of your weapons. Don't trust it unless you have tested it. But if you are nuking small game at very short distance, it'll work. The 60 grain, long, slow bullet seems to be over the limit of what one can get by with reliably.

Firearms are like females, they are not all a like and they will all appreciate different things. Old Geezer is correct, test, test and then test some more. Find the ammo that works best, in each firearm.

In August I will be buying the Ruger Precision Rimfire, 22 lr. I have fallen in love with this firearm. It has every feature I wanted. Adjustable Cheek rest, Adjustable LOP (length of Pull) butt stock. An 18 in hammer forged barrel. Adjustable trigger (2.25 to 5 pound), 30 MOA scope rail and last but not least of the features, a threaded barrel. I plan to add a SWFA fixed 20 power scope. I am pretty sure I can drop the trigger pull to to about 1 pound. This is going to make for a very accurate, sweet shooting, inexpensive rifle.

I will not stick to the .22 LR. That topic can, and has, been talked to death. Go to the web and read until you are blind and/or psychologically damaged. I luv'em, put untold tens/hundreds of thousands of rounds through them in any configuration you can imagine, plus all cartridge types starting in the mid/latter 1960s. Me and tens of millions of other men. The topic is infinitely wide. I've owned dozens and dozens and dozens ..... whatever.

I've talked the .22 magnum to death numerous times over numerous decades.

The .22 magnum is a cartridge that while not mind-numbingly accurate delivers death well past anything one would imagine. I've killed with it; it is nasty. It just is. Don't use on rabbits for it will destroy the rabbit rendering it inedible = personal experience.

The .22 magnum semi-automatics can have chamber problems, thus can have jams. It's always been true. Hell, I've run to a gunsmith lord only knows how many times dating back to the 1970s to get them to polish the chamber of my .22 magnums of every configuration. Therein lies its Achilles Heel. Once the .22 magnum weapon is put to rights, it kills. Ask Bobby Kennedy ... oh wait, you can't. Sirhan Sirhan is a bit unavailable for comment. His revolver caliber has been wiped from the internet. On the cleansed internet, Sirhan Sirhan used a .22 lr. Lie. He used a .22 mag which gets the job done ... even in rimfire. Used to, the .32 was used by assassins. I'm way too tired to get into this right now. I've driven over 700 miles and I'm tired beyond caring.

I would to God that I could keep ahead of the Democrats and international communists to keep the accurate history alive! Christ-killing college professors seem to always keep ahead in their re-writing of history. May God consign them to the bowels of annihilation and never allow them to feel His Love or breathe the Breath of His Existence. May they be cast out into the infinitely cold darkness. Hell is so cold that it burns. May the souls of the damned scream to death.

I like the 22 mag but not the cartridge price tag. It is 4 to 5 times the cost of a 22 lr. At $0.20 to $0.40 per round, I am too cheap to shoot it. The 22 mag is approaching the cost of the 204 Ruger and that caliber can be reloaded. In MHO, the 22 lr for very small critters squirrels, rabbit and such and the 204 Ruger or 22 MAG for bigger varmints.

then there is the 17 hmr and the 17 winchester mag. I have a .204 in a TC bolt action. Trying to decide on a scope. Not sure what to chose.

I am installing the SWFA 20 x 42 fixed power. Extreme amount of internal elevation and wind-age (105 MOA). Excellent turret tracking and very good glass. Best of all $299,99 price tag. Slap a 30 MOA rail on your TC and you will be able to accurately reach way out. JM2C

    Howz 'bout us a'talkin' .22 pump-action rifles.

Henry makes pump-action rifles in .22 LR and .22 Magnum.

Rossi Arms also makes pump rifles in .22 LR and .22 Magnum. I own both and they perform well. Even though Rossi sometimes hasn't the quality of other firearms manufacturers, my Rossi rifles have been real performers for me.

Speed loader for .22 tube-fed rifles

    Brand name is "Speed-D-Loader".

I have three of these Speed-D-Loaders of varying capacities. They work SUPER well. Had them for decades and they keep on keepin'-on. I highly recommend them.

Each of these puppies can hold up to 120 rounds of .22 LR rimfire ammunition for your rifle. Obviously, the cartridge being longer, one will get fewer .22 magnum cartridges into the Speed-D-Loader. I have no idea of how many .22 short cartridges in there!

The .22 Magnum does a lot of tissue damage, so it is no small game number. I've shot a rabbit with it and SPLAT!, nothing left to eat. Turned the rabbit inside-out. Think, dead vermin.

I am a fan of 22lr and 22 mag but I do have to admit I am NOT a fan of tube fed magazines. I do not like having my fingers that close to the business end of a firearm. Mag fed, side gate fed or single feed are my preferred method of loading any rifle. My Ruger Precision Rimfire is mag fed and I really like it's accuracy. None of my firearms are tube fed. Just my point of view.
