Agree Olde Geezer....the dollar is getting softer...and by design..

Go to about 7:32 minutes on this link....interesting but I dont know how much Creedence to give it.

Would be interested in your take on this.

    Texdanm...

Agree ..partners ...and will be even more important in SHTF or TEOTWAWKI....even in good times..

However...the scenario you are describing about how far women have come is under a very peculiar set of circumstances for which not all nations can copy of make to happen......economic affluence..

Most of the women I know out here are not into the advanced risk taking required to keep a civilization and or easier standard of living going...to build, keep, and maintain it and the risks and or discomfiture needed to do this.

And this is precisely what is coming in SHTF and particularly in TEOTWAWKI.

And this is where civilized , feminized males will not cut it. Oh ..there is another name for this kind of male but it escapes me at the moment...metro males or such...comes to mind...

In SHTF and or TEOWAWKI...the male and female both are going to have a lot to learn...and so too the surviving children..

If the economic affluence goes ...so too does your scenario.

And I think someone is attempting to mess with our economic affluence ...big time for political reasons...Herding. This particularly since the 2016 Election.

You're very lucky my friend. I'm going on 40 this October and the pickings are mighty slim, let alone my ability to teach a suitable candidate common sense at this stage in my life. LOL On the other hand, I'm might picky and adore all American beautiful blonde woman. So with that, I'm sure high maintenance comes with that breed. :D

Metrosexual. South Park did a spoof on that. Only in this day and age would we have a large word soup of BS to lump everyone into little groups. I think all this crap can be summed up by the fact we have reached the apex of the wussification of America. And to that order, those that chose to burn the flag and protest what amounts to be the Executive branch, will NOT defend this nation.

We already see how urban America has turned out to be. It's a freaking war zone of death and destruction. The hell of it is, the Founding Fathers created a government in which it was by the people and for the people. Yet the people use their one damn vote and blow it election after election. How long can they stand the pain before they vote with their head is what I'd like to know.

Anyway, off on a tangent. LOL Yeah, Metrosexual. Who the F comes up with this crap?! Next thing you know there will be something like LGBTQ-ABCDEFG... I'm sorry, ya either fucking gay or straight.

When it gets hot, I'll trade veggies for US minted 90% silver coins or ammo. Rural communities will barter, but they will also use currency. Once a currency tanks, people use struck silver coins as currency -- this has been true for well over 3,000 years. Indians used wampum.

I see what you are saying and most WILL die in-situ, however ...

Many will not starve. Packs are already leaving urban areas to predate on the suburbs. Those weak Americans are professional victims. If the urban bad boys attempt to do this in rural areas, they will simply be killed. It is my belief that these jackals are so stupid and so arrogant as to imagine that they could get by with this. Therefore several thousands of urban aggressor interlopers will have to be killed to set an example. This will be a form of education that they may just understand.

    by Lonewolf....

It is the background as to what is going to lead to a trade/barter economy....economic collapse.....the tanking of the value of the fiat monies....currency.

Put another way......chaos manufacturing going on for a long long time by design.

Anyone heard anything about the UN moving into Portland and or Seattle ??? I am only getting this second hand through texts.

Want chaos Lonewolf...put the UN on it..

Actually one of the most valuable assets that you can have that can't be stolen but will be worth more than gold is KNOWLEDGE. so much has been forgotten. Not many people in big cities have a clue about most of the realities of life without power and grocery stores. We live in a throw-away society so even the ability to fix and take care of the simple things has been lost. Very few men these days know how to sharpen a knife and a dull knife is worse than no knife at all. It is easy to hurt yourself. For defense, you are better off with a pointy stick than a dull knife.

The ability to repair a broken gun will always have value. Knowing how and what to grow to feed yourself and how to preserve it is priceless and is a teachable skill. I know for a fact that a lot of kids in college don't know how to cook anything that they can't just stick in a microwave! I went to a frat house one time because they said that the oven burned everything...It did. You can't bake with it on BROIL.

For a while people will be able to live and survive as scavengers but when the last can of food is gone they will die FAST. The same goes for the kind of clothes that you need when you are working hard. The best thing that I have for hard times is Overalls that are double layered on the front of the thighs and the seat. they are TOUGH and made of heavy denim. They are camo too. For hard times I want boots fr the winter!! Even down here cold feet sucks. I will probably make moccasins for the summer. Yes, I know how and have done it. The same goes for tanning leather.

99% of the population will have none of the above and will die fast, a couple of months at the most.

You know Texdanm....in line with your description of "Knowledge"...I was told something interesting by a coworker in this shipyard who had come here from New York City.

Skills and knowledge in how to put them together is in high demand in New York City according to this person.

He was in apartment maintenance when he was there...and described a situation wherein they were desperate for people with any such skills and knowledge....too many high maintenance women and men there. Or is it the Metro Sexuals F22 pilot is describing...

I just tend to call them high maintenance.

Your post reminded me of what that co worker told me....

I 've been to New York City...you can keep it..no thanks. What a madhouse. I view Richmond, Virginia here with the same light. No thanks. When I have to go there to downtown...I get my business done and get out..but I am carrying concealed.

Yes...agree with some of the posters here..knowledge combined with skills of how to put it to use to solve probems will be a form of currency or trade/barter in SHTF or TEOTWAWKI.

I do not doubt for one moment your assessment of the populace of England here in these days of England's fulminating decrepitude.

Such is not the case here in America ... at least not in Heartland America. Urban areas?, hmmm ... just look at the photos in the news -- even the socialist press has grand difficulty in their suppression of Truth (Truth seems to leek-out from whatever container the damned wish to trap it). Given time, America's anti-Americans will steer the course of our nation into the path of self-annihilation. Each year the collectivists bring in hordes of the semi-civilized to soften the backbone of our nation.

However, there is no time to be given.

The TEOTWAWKI tsunami curls above our heads.

Yet in such hellish circumstance, I still do hold out some hope.

The death percentage number will be sickeningly significant, however in this particular country in which I reside, in the particular region of this particular country in which I reside, the number will be significantly less that 99%. And do please understand that I find no solace in that reality. How is it that any person of character could look out and say, "Oh look, we are not so very dead as are those over there."

The uselessness and useless people are now considered the winners and the important folks. It is a disease and it is spreading even here in the rural places. The idea now is that if you don't go to college and learn a bunch of useless crap that you can't be successful. Everyone wants to go to college, get a liberal arts degree, and be a middle manager. I have never worked at a place that had skilled labor where I didn't make more money per hour than the middle managers. the worked 60 hours a week for a salary and I worked 40 to 60 hours a week for a very high hourly wage They could be replaced any time by another middle management drone while on several jobs I was irreplaceable.

I quit a job one time because they gave me a hot check. Three days later they called me begging me to come back at least long enough to get a subsea blowout preventer stack finished and off to Russia. I hung up on them the first time because it was the owner and I didn't like him. next the shop foreman called and we cut a deal. I would live with his, with room and board. All my hours would be at time and a half my previous wage and I would be paid in cash on Thursday. I would work 12 hours a day for 4 days and then go home. I got their stack out and then we parted ways never to do it again because the day the stack was finished they gave me a check instead of cash and it was hot. I cashed it at a liquor store on the way out of town and that was the end.

I eventually started my own business. I repaired AC/heating, Appliances, and did light repair electrical work and a little in the house type of plumbing. I charge a 50 dollar service call and then after a half an hour I charged 50 dollars an hour. Like so many other people like me that were in the small business world, I would have liked to have found a young person that could learn and help me. They just don't seem to exist. As we die, the business is dying.

There used to be a sort of eternal life for good small businesses. My Dad used the same mechanic garage for 50 years about every 15 years the owner would retire and sell the business to his head mechanic. No more. I have a friend that owns a mechanic shop. Until he retired for the last 10 years his mechanics were nearly all older retired men that could only work so much or it would mess up their social security. He hired young men but they didn't like to show up to work, get their hands dirty and most of them would steal tools. When he closed a business that had been in town for 65 years died.

Kids these days are scary. I used to fish with a young guy and he was nice but scary dumb. I like knots and can tie most all of the ones that apply to fishing. we were talking about that one day and he informed me that he knew how to tie all of the knots. I mentioned a couple of popular knots and he proceeded to whip out his phone and show me that he had a knots app on his phone. To him knowing where to look it up online was the SAME as knowing how to do it. Hell, he got to bragging about his shooting skills one day. He told me that he was rated expert and sniper on multiple video war games. We were up the river so I pulled out a handgun and we did some shooting. We were on a BIG river in the middle of it and he could barely hit the water. Turns out he didn't own a gun and had never shot a handgun or a high powered rifle. His parents wouldn't even let him have a BB gun when he was a kid but he was and EXPERT AND SNIPER on videogames. He didn't know the difference somehow or at least thought that his knowledge of games would somehow translate to reality with a little practice. It turned out that he recoil shy and flinched and closed his eyes actually BEFORE he pulled the trigger. It was a revolver (357mag) that I was loading with target 38 special rounds. I loaded it for him on his second round and only put three bullets in. He recoiled just as bad on the empty chambers as he did on the rather light loaded rounds. If you took away his phone he hardly knew how to wipe his butt!!! Survival on a scale of 1 to 10. Zero. He didn't like having to LEARN how to do things in real life. It was easier and more fun to do them online. I think he got tired of me trying to teach him and he faded away.

I have a huge library of how-to books. I have no actual training in the sense of schooling. I have taught myself about a dozen trades all from books and then going out and doing it. My first machinist job was as a Journeyman Machinist in a Shipyard. I bought a set of Audel books so that I could understand the lingo and then learned on the job. I didn't lie to them but I could talk the talk and can both read and draw blueprints. They were desperate and didn't have an open apprentice position so they let me try. I did the same for AC and heating. Read do and then passed the licensing test.

I had a kid one time that had actually taken classes in AC repair at a local junior college and even with that, he couldn't identify the high-pressure line over the low-pressure return line on an AC unit!!! THAT is easy the high-pressure line is smaller and hot and the low-pressure line is bigger and cold!!

The thing is that they try to teach kids with facts to memorize rather than encouraging an understanding of the process and how things work. It doesn't translate to reality any better than my young Experts shooters video game skills.

When the power goes off for a great majority of the American population it is going to be as if they have suffered from a terminal STROKE!!! Millions will die from drinking water from dirty sources. Typhoid, Dysentery, and all of the many water-borne bacteria that dogs and animals are mostly immune to and men USED TO BE immune to will kill them. They will get sick and get diarrhea and then drink more until they eventually die of dehydration. They just won't know any better. They see people on TV drinking out of rivers and streams all the time you know... We have become a nation of educated IDIOTS.

I expect the urban areas of Britain and the US are very similar and will have a similar death rate during SHTF.
most people, like the lad mentioned, cannot do anything unless they can look it up on line first maybe youtube to see how to do it, their knowledge base is nil, once the power goes off and they cant recharge their dumb smart phones they will be dead meat.

Here I am as the stupid millenial on the group. So what does a mid 30s girl do when she realizes that the shed roof needs to be fixed but she only knows how to fix metal roofing and the shed is shingle? After my Dad passed away a few years ago, and how I miss him and his advice, I have no one to call for advice. No mentor anymore to say I'll sit here and direct the work so you can learn while doing. So I'll admit straight what I do. I google and youtube until I understand how something works and is repaired. Then I go and fix it.
Will I die without the internet? Absolutely not. But it is a wealth of knowledge right now.

cover the roof with sheetmetal roofing, right over the top of the shingles. It can either be striped with runners or lay felt on it first. Done my house last fall and my barn last week

    Good morning Rebecca,

    Much involves trade-offs.

Max isolation means less group assistance.

As a Prepper, I, too, keep my activities and specifics exclusive to my group.

As a member of 4 different veterans' organizations, I give a little additional help to members. One of the younger guys unexpectedly shipped out to a place most must look up on the map to figure out what's going on. The wife has a minor disability. A minor errand was mentioned pre-meeting (which is really the real meeting).

To abbreviate: Went to her place and loaded up the well house salt reservoir and did a little maintenance with the machinery.

    Again, much is a trade-off.

replaced a few slates in my time and I've lost count of how many times I've replaced the roofing felt on my sheds- current one has a metal roof.

Rebecca, Asphalt shingles aren't hard to patch and youtube does have plenty of good info. Your about the age of my oldest daughter, so I understand not all millenials are twits and metro's. If you need any help, with repairs and such also ask here. There is a lot of knowledge here. I would also recommend buying a couple good books on home repair. I learned a lot from my family and life but also found out that sometimes a good book would teach me easier ways of doing things than what I already knew. Just a suggestion.

    Rebecca,

I too use U Tube and find it useful. Used U Tube recently for something mechanical on my Truck and then cross checked it with the Manual I also have on the same truck.

I too will not perish without Google or U Tube but they are often handy.

Good and admirable that you will take the risks to do certain things for yourself. For many will not.

I too am at a loss for certain concepts and understandings now that my Father has passed..and miss him greatly.

I do not like to call others to come and bail me out.

I know little about the internal workings of a vehicle transmission though I can change out a clutch and or pressure plate and even the Hydraulic clutch found so often on todays vehicles...but the internal workings and gears....automatic transmissions..I wll hire a professional for that.

I do own a transmission jack in my garage and will use it..but internal workings ...not my bailwick.

    Electrical ..I can do some...but a lot of it...the major stuff..I prefer a professional.

Understand the boat you are in Rebecca....and well done ...well done.

Oh..and I have done some roofing..and also have a tree climbing outfit....and have cut down three trees on my property...from up in them.

I learned on the job and also recognized that these people earn their monies..that is rough rough work......these folk earn every penny of their monies.

    Texdanm...

You know I started years ago in this shipyard....and could barely read a ruler...but years of trying, learning, and even taking some night school classes helped me.

For some of this work one needs to be able to think in three dimensions...,.and understand that certain blue prints are in three dimensions ...not two...plan, elevation, and even section...

It helped me that as a kid I liked to work those puzzles which would be interlocking to hold them together. They could be a car or a horse or such but you had to figure the interlocking piece/pieces which would allow you access to the other interlocking pieces and thus disassembly...or reassembly.

The Japanese used to make a type of puzzle box for which you had to learn to slide the panels in a certain combination to open it. I thought them quite ingenious in how they are made and fitted.

I always liked those three dimensional puzzles though some of them could verily put your sanity to the test.

You have to learn to work them...not let them work you. Your post reminded me of all that water under the bridge so to speak..

    Thanks

Lonewolf I'm not sure that most of the people in the biggest cities have enough sense to even leave the city. Most will sit there, sure that the government will show up and provide them with food, water, and protection. It will be like the thousands that sat in their holes in New Orleans as a huge storm was rolling right at them. This will be different though. There probably will be little if any warning. The lights will go out and that will be it. Those of us that are prepared may react but most just can't imagine anything like what we have been preparing for, for in some cases half a century.

When they do panic and try to leave they will be lucky to have much more than just the clothes on their backs. We here talk about trading but those poor folks will have NOTHING not even a marketable skill set.

Storm bearing down on us now....on the East coast...from down in the Bahamas and Florida..

Will be getting my generators and gas supplies ready ..also charging up my batteries and walkie talkie batteries.

Have four walkie talkies...amateur radio walkie talkies on the chargers as we speak.
Need also to charge the spare batteries for them.
Check on my roll up portable emergency antenna.

Last one to come through here ...people ran for the generators in the stores and cleaned out the store shelves of batteries and quick foods....tuna crackers et al.

Exactly Tex, thats why I have never believed in the horde theory especially not in Britain.
sheeple expect someone else to come and save them, either the govt or an outside agency, its never their job to take care of themselves that why they pay taxes.
the 21st century city resident has no skills other than what they do for a living, outside of that most are clueless, most have no idea and no interest where there food comes from, how it is grown or reared and even less how it is processed, they just go to the supermarket and expect it to be on the shelf, when it is not we have seen how they will behave during the pandemic.
once the lights go out thats it game over for a vast majority of the population.

The thing is that this question like so many has a lot to do with where you live and where you plan to bug out too in the event of an apocalypse. Where I live guns are systemic as in EVERYONE has a gun and most have several. When my daughter moved out I gave her a sawed-off shotgun as a house warming gift for her new home. Even in the big cities the sort of crap that you see in the big cities of the North and East and West coasts just can't happen. It will be a blood bath but pretty fast the thugs, rioters and thieves will be DEAD. Honestly, at least in the Liberal places the laws and police protect the criminals more than they do their citizens.

The only reason to hide from people and not be open to help and trade with your neighbors would be because you are fearful of them. Without the cops,, a neighbor that tries to steal from me will be dead. If he threatens me he will be dead and There will never be a moment in the day or night that I won't have a gun on me and backup covering my back. It will be amazing how nice and trustworthy people will be after 6 months of killing the trash. I have only one that I can think of that I don't trust and he will be lucky to survive a month.

I live just outside of a very small town. We don't have gangs or any over that sort of stuff out here. I don't even KNOW where a key to my house is right now. I have a sign that says thieves welcome. Please move fast for me. I prefer fast-moving targets. What few robberies that happen here are nearly always someone's wayward kid. If they value that kid they move him out. If someone is seen stealing something at night they don't CARE who or how old they are. If someone is coming out of one of my shops at night they had better be related to me if they want to see the sunrise.

Most of the things that people in other places fear just aren't very likely here. While our big cities are like the ones elsewhere and full of trash. BUT they are also just full and have a majority of well-armed and rather pugnacious good people that are not going to put up with much. It is a different world when it is legal even now to shoot and kill anyone that attacks you or tries to steal your property. Our criminals tend to be VERY sneaky and not nearly as in your face as what people deal with in other places. Not long ago a little old lady, late 70s, killed two out of three young thieves that broke into her house. She hit but didn't kill the third one.

Different places will have different problems. I live exactly where I live for VERY specific and planned out reasons.

My main reason for not trading is I dont believe the survival rate will be that high among non prepared people, and any that do survive will be well spread out.
I dont see the point of storing barter goods for people that just wont exist post SHTF.
like all good preppers, I intend to be self sufficient and self reliant.

After much discussion and debate, I have determined what I think will be the most valuable and cost efficient item to store and maybe use for barter. Not guns, ammo, precious metal, alcohol or any of the normal items discussed. I think heirloom / heritage seeds will be like gold. When the GMO seeds are running out and the needs for renewable crops are in demand, the person with these seeds is going to be "King /Queen" of the mountain. These seeds are easy to store, do not take up much space and a per seed transaction could be very profitable. JMHO

There is nothing I can think of I would want to trade for . If I could think of something I would be correcting that oversight now . My group shouldn't need anything someone else has . It is actually the opposite , I will be having to guard my resources from those that might want to trade for what I have or to steal what I have . My security has already increased over the last few months and expect to have to ratchet security to even a higher level . I have my attack dog sleeping close to my milk goats and sometimes I do to .

with an already low population I'm not expecting a community to exist here post SHTF.
I'm very much working on the hypothesis that we will be alone here.

Never underestimate the ability of humans surviving anything...to cause a lot of work and risks for others....necessitating theses others to go out and trade, barter, take risks for them...in whatever marketplace remains....while they sit back and direct....ie.... "Nag" events.

    Remember the Pareto Principle..

    I'm being semi-serious here.

In the States this is common knowledge, but the Fed in America used to put back cheese for a decades period. During the 1980s this was distributed out to poor folk. This stuff was stored in cool mines.

    https://www.history.com/news/government-cheese-dairy-farmers-reagan

    The year 2016:

    https://money.cnn.com/2016/08/23/pf/government-cheese-surplus/index.html

The horrid question arises, were the masses to survive a SHTF event by eating mainly cheese, could they have lived only to subsequently die of constipation?

Maybe we Yanks should store laxatives. ... Whole grains! There, I've worked it out! (Excuse the pun.)

It works out for preppers that there are the complacent masses. Fewer people to feed. Fewer desperate people to have to fend-off.

These folk-with-attitude will self-annihilate when the power grids go down. Many have gone camping, but do that for a year+ non-stop -- city folk gathering firewood ... hmmmm.... nope, don't see it. It is utterly beyond me that people imagine that maintaining power grids is so easy. Working industrial automation and coming up with solutions to the propping-up of grids, designed "back-when", makes one wonder how long the current house of cards can be maintained even in good times. It's a constant struggle. I belly-laugh when some simpleton talks about going to electric cars.

To those I care about, I say, "Hey get away from large cities!" To the adolescent smart-alacks, I say, "You're so right! The government will protect us."

I often think that a lot of people are going to starve to death because they simply don't have a clue about what to eat that doesn't come out of a can or package. What people eat now is NOTHING like what people ate even 50 years ago. Most younger people these days don't know how to cook other than pop it in the microwave or oven.

In the past, people ate a lot of one-pot meals. When you are cooking on a campfire that is just the easiest and best way to get the most out of the least. I know that meat tastes great seared over a fire BUT you are losing most of the fat content when you cook it that way. If food is short and meat is scarce you put the meat in a pot with whatever else you can scratch up and boil it making soup.

Possibly one of the most valuable things you might have for trade could be bigger pots, especially those of a cast iron type. I pick them up for a little of nothing all the time at garage sales and flea markets. They are rusty and people think they are useless. I remove the rust, clean and smooth them up and reseason them and they are good as new. Rust actually protects them. I have one cast iron pot that will hold 20 gallons or more. It is an old family wash pot.

Stainless steel is nice but I'm not sure how long it will last cooking on an open fire. I KNOW that cast iron will last almost forever. I have one little three-legged pot that my Great Great Great carried during the civil war. The legs have nearly worn off but the pot is still good. That wash pot is somewhere around 150 years old.

I want to trade for several reasons. First off trading is the root beginning of civilization and I just don't see living like a hermit as something that i would enjoy. Secondly no matter the fact that I have truly MASSIVE stores I know that there will be things that I will wish that I had that I forgot. If nothing else there are skills that I lack that others might have and trade is all that I could offer them in a trade unless I could do something for them.

I live in an area that is rural and honestly eating just won't be a problem. We even have a game ranch just down the road that raised all sorts of nonnative animals for sale to hunting ranches. You can see all sorts of critters when you drive by there. They have a lot of African game. Then I am surrounded by cattle ranches. My skills would have set me up well when I was younger. I've worked cattle and livestock off and on most of my life and have a full set of butcher tools. Hogs, Goats, and Chickens are going to be running everywhere for a while.

Once I started getting older I began to plan for a time when I might not be as able to do the hard and heavy work and so trade is my fall back for my once in a community of country folks. If nothing else my books and knowledge will be an asset.

Actually the price of gold and silver do not go up and down. It is the fiat paper that varies. Historically, the gold/silver ratio has varied. In our day and age, silver is a necessary industrial metal -- especially in the chemical industry (water purification systems for population centers uses a bunch of silver also). Nations consume silver and must purchase more (by the thousands of tons). Some industrial processes involve silver-scavenging in an attempt to reduce their silver purchasing costs. Silver is usually a byproduct of copper mining (Chile does a lot of copper mining), however the ore richness in silver has been dropping in quality for decades now. Industry uses gold, however the tonnage is nothing compared to silver.

Talk is that, ratio-wise, silver will massively outperform gold, especially during hard times. And too, not just anybody owns gold coins -- I have no spare-change jar of gold on my nightstand. Everybody however, has some old silver coins. They simply do not draw attention, especially if they are just junk circulated, worn-out, coins. As a boy back in the 1960s, I would separate-out the 90% silver coins while counting money out the gambling machines. Everybody did and they mainly just tossed the stuff in the back of chest-of-drawers. There are boat-loads of it out there ... but NOT enough to make it common. Silver coins have a rarity, plus silver is a great conductor of electricity and is useful in water purification processes.

Post SHTF, silver coins will be used as trade. Flashing a coin or three hither-thither will not draw attention. Flashing gold coins however, will require that you have a couple of bad-boys on your six-o'clock. Same with ammo being used as barter -- a box of ammo will be one thing, a crate of ammo will be another. During the worst of times in human history, silver coins have been used as barter. No government has to "bless them" into value. SHTF, paper currency turns into ink-stained rag-paper that could possibly be useful as toilet paper.

Whether it be Donny Trump or Kamala Harris as upcoming president, the disUnited States and other Western nations will be printing "money" hand-over-fist. Therefore, national currencies are going to tank It's not up for debate, History sez, "Happens all the time."

This is why Russia and China are buying precious metals as fast as they are able to do so. Each country wishes to create a sustainable world reserve currency. To do this, you gotta have large armies, plus you gotta have something to show should an economic entity wish to cash-in your I-owe-you chits (a.k.a. "money"). If something is not backed with physical power or it is not intrinsically useful, that "something" is utterly without value. This is weird, but exceedingly human, even during hell-year, precious and semi-precious stones hold their value -- even with ketchup they are inedible, yet people kill for pretty rocks".

In the next few years -- or come October 2020 -- all retirement accounts based on fiat currency will be totally wiped-out. Profoundly few people will have anything left is such accounts. Government backing means less than zero.

There's no reason to think any seeds would run out as long as people are smart enough to save some.

When the manufacture of these GMO seeds stop, then they will run out. Open up most oranges, or apples and how many seeds do you find? If the plant does not provide viable seeds, then it is one and done. With a world of hungry people, the stock pile of GMO seeds will run out, soon after the manufacturing facilities shut down. Ask the farmers that have to buy new seed every year, if their supply will last several years. How many edible plants survive from year to year and do not require re-planting? If my life is going to be bet on a garden, then I want to be able to harvest the produce and the SEEDS.

Many GMO seeds produce plants whose seeds are sterile or do reproduce the original plant when you plant their seeds. In general, you want to have heritage seeds from tried and true producers and not be dependent on new GMO or hybrid seeds every year. The makers of GMO and hybrid seeds have NO interest in you being able to use the seeds from your crops to plant next year. Many hybrid plants are like mules and not able to reproduce. Even when they do you will probably get one of the originating plants and not the great producing hybrid.

According to a study done in the United States by the now dissolved E.M.P. Commission it was their estimation if electricity was lost for one year the death rate would be 90% . An Loss of power by man design or natural event from an outer space event could easily cause loss of the electrical grid for a year but more likely it would be for more than one year so the death toll would be more likely to be higher than 90% .

most people cannot function without electricity so the death rate if the power grid went down would be quite large even in a country the size of the UK.

    Good morning Max,

    Re: "never been a 90% human death rate, ever";

I'm not challenging the historical record.

What is being introduced here is the future based on current matters.

Look at some of the diseases and lesser ailments.

In biowarfare, geometric casualty rates can and will occur. Now add the lack of medical care. Remember one unburied dead horse with EEE disease allows the mosquitoes to add to the geometry in re deaths.

just because something hasnt happened before does not mean it cannot happen in the future.
as we get more and more humans on planet earth the possibility of another pandemic rises with the population, as people become more packed in together, the cities become larger and larger, there are already many global cities with populations over 20 million, as more and more food is needed to feed the ever growing population the possibility of human strife and wars become more prevalent not less.

    I don't think that's true.
    You're thinking about "hybrids".

GMO plants produce genetically identical seeds.

They aren't used by farmers due to contractural agreements, not because they aren't viable.

Now I am just an old timer that remembers seeds in my watermelon, oranges, apples and so forth. Now if the fruit has no seeds, how is anybody going to plant them?
