I might need one of those to watch out for bears. I didn't see in the article any mention of armament for the robot. I'd mount a 45/70.

Interesting. Military dog with no teeth. Another form of drone, just this one can carry a load.

When I can get one that looks like this guy and can bite....take my money.

A bad guys worst nightmare. Robot sabertooth tiger. Can't kill it. Can't out run it. And if it bites you, your losing something. LOL!

I've actually asked my daughters friend (robotics engineer/mechanical engineer) if he could build one. I wait and see.

I like wild cat species. Cougar, bobcat, lynx, tigers, lions, ocelot, etc. But really dislike house cats. They make great coyote bait and that's the only good I know of for them.

Robot Dogs: How well do they smell? Will they track something up one side of a mountain and down the other? Will the robot dogs consume the scraps of something you just killed and love you more for having shared your kill? I have never owned nor been in contact with a dog that required batteries, solar panels, nuclear power supplies, non-organic anything. Keep giving a dog scrap bones and rancid meat and you have a friend for life. I can scratch an organic dog behind the ears and it will die for me.

A healthy bitch with adequate mammary function is a dog factory. She like any other dog will eat meat scraps. The only other requirements I know of for this sort of factory is that you scratch her and let her occasionally lick your hands, maybe your face.

With the money the military wasted on this techie crap, they could have trained a battalion of real dogs. Arf-arf! I'm bearing my teeth.

Don't get me started on how many failures you get with "advanced electronics" that "never fail" (early 1970's on, I've had to deal with electronic piles of poo that "never fail".

How accurate do you think that robot compare to the fossil record (size, camo pattern)?

Remote operation for legged robot to walk around checking things won't be difficult these days. Might as well adding optical package such as thermal which is already available for drone & smartphone these days and binaural microphone.
However since you need it to be able to bite someone that would require partial autonomous operation which can be rather difficult to develop. Its actually far more easier to give it a gun.

Is there an olfactory package for this complex computer canine?

If the high-tech hound is hacked, would it able to disable itself before turning into a zombie dog of death? Could it turn on its operators?

Varuna, During the Pleistocene there were several species of saber tooth cats in the world. The costume one would actually be accurate to size for a north American smilodon populator or smilodon fatalis. We are unsure of the exact color and pelt pattern on the adults of these species but they are pretty sure that this color is very similar to a recovered smilodon populator cub.

A gun carrying robot is a fearful thing but someone see something that looks and acts like that big of a cat, that can bite. Dying from a bullet is one thing but who wants to be chewed on by something with 9 inch teeth and then mauled and held down. I'd have second thoughts of entering that area. Just a thought.
