Only sheeple don't realize a collapse of the world as we know it " teotwawki " is now only days from becoming a reality . November 3 is the escalation point , as the communist make their big offensive on freedom and their quest for global domination . Whether they succeed or fail the collapse of the supply chain , and law structure is almost initiable . What have you done or plan to do in preparation for surviving ? What can you mark done on your check list ?

what happens in America affects the rest of the world sooner or later, usually sooner, only a sheeple would not know that.

    Good afternoon Poltiregist,

    My darn check list !

I've completed what I can do and the rest is refinements.

Must still get shot ("jab") number 2 of 2 in series of shingles immunizarion.

I've got hand sanitizer rigged on my kit (my TA-50 load bearing suspenders) but want to upgrade to better than store bought goo with a little alcohol.

Subject to travel restrictions I'll be back in Spain Nov 3rd and won't be watching the news, don't want my trip ruined. Seriously though, on the 4th I'll either be celebrating or drowning my sorrows and praying for the future of the USA.

    Good evening Max,

If the US does have problems on 4 November, recommend pray that NAVSTA Rota Spain is still there.

Otherwise, the rest of the Forum Members will have to pray for you and the other expats.

Just in case I get busy and forget, have a safe trip.

Thats if they let us fly. Return ticket was about $100US so I won't cry if I can't use it. Looking at properties again then back offshore to pay for the Hacienda :)

The covid situation is shite but to be honest I've had a really fantastic time with my lad, quality time, love him to bits.

    Good morning Poltiregist,

Document pouch with critical records, eg:

Birth, marriage, any adoption, military, deed to place, ownership proof of eg binoculars, medical/immunization, ...

When / if the contemporary equivalent of the 1st Regiment Loyal Eastern Virginia Volunteers (US Army) or the First Cherokee Mounted Rifles, Indian Home Guard, exercise Continuity of Government (COG), you'll establish that you're not a carpetbagger from Wall Street or Wilshire Avenue.

My docs also include a letter from Trump to me.

I inspected my bagged whole kernel corn for weevils , even grinding some of the corn for further inspection . I found not any weevils . Even though I consider a little meat in my corn in a S.H.T.F. situation not necessarily a bad thing I don't want it too buggy . After the corn inspection I cleaned and oiled my grinder before putting it away to await for the collapse .

LOL LOL LOL....I did not care for the Obama Administration for 8 years knowing what baggage they brought with them...Other Presidents as well.....
Nor did I threaten to leave the country...... LOL LOL LOL!!!!

But somehow I sensed drowning my sorrows in some libation or such was not the thing to do.
I did pray for the future of America...and in the 2016 Election in particular and as well.

Amazing what peculiar conduct "Civilized " people do in carrying on in hard times..or sad times.

Looking at three bottles of Goslings 151 dark Bermuda Rum on the counter to the right of me...but very seldom indulge..
Goslings is stocked primarily for medicinal purposes.

The very few times I do indulge it is usually Crown and soda...but not as a career...and certainly not for sorrows...
My sorrows I tend to take straight up.....but thats just me.

Thinking again about an M1A rifle in .308 Winchester/7.62 x 51mm...debating the Scout Rifle....no rush on this..for my survival checklist. This to augment my Ruger Precision Rifle...in the same calibration.

Make sure you scan and store your documents on more than one encrypted USB memory stick as well as having the physical documents and encrypted files stored on the cloud. This is more secure than carrying them paper with you.

I know some 'preppers' get technophobic when it comes to computers and cloud storage but read this
    https://beebom.com/best-usb-encryption-software/

"AES-256 standard offers unbreakable encryption with key length of 256 bits. Even with the most advanced computers, it would take millions of years before you can guess the decryption key" Thats enough security for 99.9999999% of the population.

I agree the cloud can be a viable third tier backup. I would advise against using it as a primary backup source.

I'm not moving for political reasons, politics is politics wherever you live, I'm readying my early retirement in the sun, where I can live modestly, sipping wine, hiking in the hillls and chilling out mate. Age @55 I want to be done working full time, I'll have done enough hard graft by then, its my time I want. I'm lucky in that I'll be able to afford to do that.

    Good afternoon Max,

Surely more than 1 medium to store documents can be useful to some.

It's not a tech-phobia; it's sometimes just having to show a doc to someone who wants to see it on paper with seal or related. Soon, there are building entrance restrictions without the actual document - even though the person is qualified to enter the restricted building.

Some folks do NOT want to store some tangables on any cloud. Visualize a high tech gadget that's insured for much value.

No doubt, my dad has always said retirement is when you really start to work. I've got interests in stuff I don't talk about here and no doubt my days will be full. 15 max 18 years and I pull the plug. Property I buy will be big so maybe something like bed and breakfast in the high season to bring in a few extra euros, artist retreat, yoga centre all sorts of ideas but plenty of time to sort them.

Who knows, maybe a 'Survivalist training camp' ;)

Multiple redundancy is the game you play with this type of situation. You back up the back ups then back them up and not just on the cloud(s). I don't see the logic in the fear of cloud storage so long as you only store encrypted files, you do realise that the FBI can't even read an encrypted iPhone don't you, they or any of the security services can't decrypt your files, they are safer than carrying paper.

I'm talking about the paranoid tinfoil hat wearers mainly banging on about the government reading their stuff when in fact they can't and ask yourself the question "What value do my files/papers have to anyone else but me" very little is the reality. I've not come across any entrance restrictions that require a bit of paper to bypass, can't think of any really certainly in 2020, ten years ago a slim maybe but not now, its plastic, pin numbers, passwords, fingerprint. Amazon are launching check out tills that will read the palm of your hand so I've no doubt that in very years time you'll have palm print readers on your front door.

If your happy to carry bits of paper then carry on mate, each to their own but I've securely moved on, the only paper in my wallet is a national lottery ticket for Wednesday night :)

Anyway, I've got cold cider and mature cheddar cheese/pickles in the fridge and a couple of horror films/movies to watch so its going to be a late night :)

    Good evening Max,

It's the exact opposite of the tin foil kid in the basement of the folks' home.

    An example;

If, for example, someone has an emergency MRI for a field environment and this event is occuring in California involving this owned and properly administered machine, and the state of New York says the possessor of this machine owes N.Y. much property tax on the MRI,

No one, nor their advisors, would want to place info on a medium that is relatively easy to subpoena.

    Another:

Sometimes procurement of something has restrictions involving intellectual property. Our oil industry used to be famous for this. A basic restriction is limited distribution involving whatever gadget.

I would have loved to discuss vastness with Socrates. What the body survives and the mind endures, the soul must live with until sleep brings final peace.

By now and most certainly in the future, almost all paper documents, are on somebodies electronic database. Saving the third tier layer of encrypted copies of your paper work is pretty safe. Now I would not save any confessions of committing a crime, encrypted or not, on any device or storage medium. If you can put it on a device, somebody will be able to read it, if it is important enough. If you believe there are no backdoors on encrypted software, then I think you might be a candidate for raising Unicorns.

Secrets....most don't know how to keep them.

    Rule #1. Tell NO ONE.....EVER!!!
Keep it to yourself, that's why there called secrets.

Rule #2. If rule 1 is impossible for you, tell your dog, buddy, ex-wife... Someone or something you don't mind killing. Kill them immediately after telling them and eliminate the body.

If rules 1 & 2 don't seem to apply to your secret, it either isn't a real secret. In which case tell your wife, priest or dog as no one cares. Or, it is a real secret and you are either a politician, SEAL or lawyer and should off yourself immediately before you tell what shouldn't be told.

FYI - Non-disclosure agreements without end dates and security classifications ARE SECRETS!!!!

The reality is they won't without your explicit help. What data do you have that would be worth devoting several supercomputers to possibly find if they had x number of years to work on it?

FBI asked Apple to unlock a phone because they could not and Apple said no. The guy who owns McAfee software (John McAfee) said he could do it for the right money but he's full of shite at the best of times so realistically your encrypted files are very very safe.

I think documentation will be the last thing on my list in a TEOTWAWKI scenario.
wont be anyone left to have to show it to or any need to prove who I am.
the chances are in my neck of the woods of even seeing anyone else will be very remote, isolation will definitely have its benefits.
there is still this attitude even in prepping circles that great swathes of the population will survive a great catastrophe when in fact the opposite will be the case.

I agree with lonewolf . I am not worried about documents . Where I am expecting this planet to descend to " there will not be any government or officials to show a document to " . Even if there was some sort of government structure left , it would apply to me only if I have to do combat with the government structure and my gun and bullets don't give a rat's a-- about paper work or computers either .

Was thinking about this by Dalewick....and in the context of Retirement..

Some time in January of February of this year one of the guys at work retired...

I have no doubt that his wife quickly substituted her social and family social programs for his retirement program..making up for lost time......and he ran touchdowns to please her...

Black folks tend to have extensive social contacts/circles.....as well as extensive family social contacts circles.

Next thing you know ...he caught the C19 and died...

Have been asking myself if he had remained working.....would he still be alive..??? Smaller circles of contact..

Keeping an eye out on some of the others I know who have retired...

Dalewick's statement reminded me of this recent event...

    Good morning Lonewolf and Poltiregist,

What I was addressing was that there WILL be a segment of populations left after an all Hades event.

This segment will be the 20 to 30 year old Continuity Of Government (COG) contingents. They will be well-housed, well-fed, all medical care AOK ... look at how it's being handled now in the COVID environment ... They will be military, paramilitary, security and direct support personnel.

A couple of reports to an area's fusion center can see one's shack in the woods confiscated, one's stockpiles commandeered ... the laws and regulations are in place already...

A couple of reports filtering in to a COG regional or area headquarters that some quadrant of a zone has terrorists present ...... the dearly bethrothed bride is suspected by some 25 year old military police officer to really be an illegal immigrant ... maybe involved in terrorism ... some pulp documents could rapidly clear things up and back to hunkering down.

    Otherwise: CCA.

CCA = Confined by Civil Authorities.

A quick question: Who owns that ATV ?

sorry Pragmatist but in the UK any kind of govt that could be left will be relegated to the capital and will probably only be able to control a small portion of even that, in the UK we dont have the number of either Army or Police that you have in the US, the numbers here are much smaller and going down even further every year.

    Good morning Lonewolf,

Understand the different thinner arrangements in the UK and basically can accept this.

The US infrastructure is thick and well funded - although much is hidden in other accounts like hurricane damage.

Part of the US Continuity of Government approach does involve the UK and neighbor Ireland.

US protection involves the outer rink approaches and this involves Fasland Clyde, Glasgow area. In a pre-SHTF situation, the place could get some more supplies and Jules Verne type of sailors - submariners / "bubble heads". I don't gamble but will just mention a US COG arrangement might involve reopeing USN's Holy Loch base. Both these places are well away from London.

Personally, I'd consider much of London expendable and the white cliffs of Dover and the Scotland bases close to the "gap" used by Russian subs of significantly more importance.

FWIW, FEMA has 2 officials resident in the UK.

Depending on the type of anticipated event ... as anticipated by the US political establishment, one key US oil refinery is at Bantry Bay, Irish Republic. If Bantry Bay is to be kept, there will be an influx of supplies and critical support labor. I don't know but can only guess that Brits of land forces would have a presence with a key role.

If a SHTF event is a biological matter - natural or person-made - there could be big changes involving evacuations, new field hospitals, ...

We've got to be ready for what is realistic.

    By Pragmatist...

This by Pragmatist took me back in history to the time when I was assigned to the NATO base in Keflavik, Iceland...

The significance of Iceland in the bigger scheme of things is that it lies pretty much in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean.

Keflavik, Iceland, by virtue of it's geography, is the perfect location to station long range submarine hunting aircraft...American as well as NATO submarine hunters..

During the year I was there I saw a number of NATO submarine hunting aircraft transiting through the Keflavik base on missions and or training.

In those day the RAF flew a peculiar piston engined Shakleton bomber outfitted for long range submarine hunting....

I got to go onboard a Shakleton Submarine Hunter and was pleasantly surprised at the creature comforts onboard in spite of the close confines due to equipment loadouts.. Leather armrests on the chairs...et al. Quite a pleasant change from American Spartan military aircraft standards.

    https://c8.alamy.com/comp/B98YE9/view-of-an-avro-shackleton-maritime-patrol-aircraft-B98YE9.jpg

I have no doubt that since those days and the closing of the Keflavik, NATO base to the allied powers that much of this need for submarine hunting know how has been replaced by more modern technology...technological developments..including satellite tech.

In those days the Navy rotated sub hunting aircraft and squadrons to Keflavik and the Air Force chased the Russian long range aircraft going to and fro Cuba..

When I hear these stories in the news about Russian Aircraft flying and operating close to England and the United States..or Russian Submarines...I bust out laughing......

These stories are being used to frighten unthinking people with primarily a television and or movie education....in emotions..not thinking....preying on peoples fears and insecurities...

There are more Communists and Socialists on the college campuses in America and the UK than there are in Russia....

And if they are in our Colleges and Education systems....they are now in our leadership positions.....

One has to become educated to get this naturally stupid.....and it has been remarkably successful on a people and nation...
It has taken a long time but it has been remarkably successful....

But how about those Kardashians and or the demi gods of sports!!!!!????

    Ishmaelites run wild....

LOL, you missed my humour, I jokingly meant I won't be watching the election and I'll be in Spain if allowed not offshore where comms is not an issue. Thanks to online sites like the BBC (and a VPN) I can watch news from all over the world pretty much from anywhere in the world (that I'm likely to be).

Lone Wolf, sorry mate I still don't see this 99% death rate. It would be easier to survive if 99% die, more for survivors to scavenge but bar a nuke exchange it ain't going to happen IMHO.

    When it hits the fan:

Retirement accounts will all be gone.

Governments will be without currency. No one in uniform will receive any pay unless you count war booty. Government checks will be just so much ink-stained paper. Computer servers hubs are going to be disabled ... no internet.

The space birds are going to take hits -- no refresh/maintenance cycles, plus could be physically destroyed during war actions. So, use your space talk dishes for birdbaths or whatever. Maybe you could make a solar oven out of one.

I gotta dog that barks when our perimeter is threatened. Gotta 9mm in my pocket to get me to the pump shotguns and their buckshot and slugs. Food stacks. Water filters. Kerosene, woodpile, chainsaw, ... all that stuff. I'm gonna replace my electrical generator; gave my best generator to a son. Should do that. Electronic security has expensive battery-backup. Chains and locks and lag bolts -- there aren't going to be any cops to protect anything or anyone. Shoot first, ask questions later. The mountains around here will become dumping grounds for the bodies of looters. Buzzards and possums don't know it now, but they could be in for some seriously bountiful banquets when the looters "get put out of business".

If you live alone, then you'll have to have everything, be everything. If you live in a small community, then the community must see you as a member, certainly not as some outsider. When times go hard, people do not become nicer, oh no no no -- quite the opposite.

Whatever happens, there's nothing we can do to stop it, so we preppers build our surfboards out of supplies and training in some attempt to ride the nasty SHTF tsunami waves into whatever future there is. Looks like the surf is going to be particularly dangerous. So it goes.

One thing is for sure, everything we take for granted in the here-and-now is going to be taken away. We ourselves will be our only security.

I agree Old Geezer . I don't expect any help from any remans of some kind of law or organized government structure and really don't particularly want any . I am prepared to survive without the help of anyone from outside our survival group . That was my reason for one of my above posts on not giving a rats a-- about paper documents or computers . I am focusing on a world where guns and bullets make the law not some group of people claiming to be " in charge of me or my group " . ---- Bartering is also irrelevant to my group " no need " .

As to the big sports industry; when the players started taking a knee, their fans started taking a hike.

The Chinacovid thingy would NOT have killed big sports. Big sports would have bounced right back. However, the players going political has permanently alienated their fan-base. Being called oppressors doesn't usually make people particularly happy.

The terminally neurotic feel perpetual guilt over everything it seems. Normal people don't.

Even if they are guilty, normal people do not wring their hands.

Keep pushing the goood people, the working people of society, and they will go physically aggressive. Who is armed? Who are the hunters?

Who are the folk in law enforcement and military? The neurotics? Hey kids, NO, it isn't the neurotics! Hey kids, can you say, "Uh Oh!"

Those who wish to dredge up history had best not wake the sleeping dragon. Most neurotics have zero concept of being the object of pure rage. Let them call the cops who they wish to defund. Maybe they'll be off work with the flu.

you have your opinion and I have mine.
the thing in the UK is it dosent have to be a nuclear exchange, anything that shuts down the power grid, stops imports and the supply chain in general, will have the same effect.
could be anything, something political or economical could do it dosent have to be all out war.

Simple logic. The further a civilization moves from it's food source, the higher the death rate when the supply line is severed. Also when you factor in the percentage of imported food needed to feed the people, again higher the death rate. The U.K. can only feed about 60% of it's population without imports. About 80 to 90 percent of the population live in urban locations. Without ability to grow their own food, it is very easy to see how the death rate could hit 98 to 99 percent. Factoring in disease, starvation, no medical supplies or facilities, rioting, poor hygiene, violence and a minimal good water and the death rate in the U.K. could reach an extinction level.

if the UK had to survive on the food we grow ourselves, no imports, starting on January 1st of any year, we would run out of food by about August 11th, with 4 months of the year still to run and no food I think anyone could imagine what the death rate would be.

Ahhh, I see where your coming from, not a single fast acting event, a long drawn out slow starvation leading to 99% death rate...Na, still to high IMHO.

    I'm playing devil's advocate here.

Lets assume you have you plot of land big enough and capable of growing arable crops. Its October so you need to be planting now for a winter crop so do you have all your seeds to hand NOW?

You realistically will need to feed you and dependents for a minimum of six months so do you have ALL the food you need for a minimum of six months to hand? If you run out after six months your diet is going to be poor relying on the veg you may grow and the occasional bunny/fish? then you need to start the whole crop cycle all over again are you ready and supplied for that now?

Given that supplies of gasoline are very finite what alternative preps do you have to hand now? Bicycles/solar power/wind turbine/comms and spares...do you have them now?

Do you have a plough? What are your husbandry skills like, could you look after a horse and plow a field? Could you look after a cow? Do you have enough fodder to feed a cow/goats/chickens?

How will you maintain a knowledge base not only for yourself but for those that follow you, do you have the books, computer files etc?

Medical preps, do you have all the meds you and dependents need to get you through at least two years? What are your practical medical skills like, could you safely stitch a wound (or have the knowledge of if suturing is needed)? Set a broken limb?

Due to Covid 19 I've got more food at home than ever before, I'd guess I could feed me and my son for maybe six months and thats a lot of food, I could stock a local shop with what I've now got but long term we'd really struggle unless we could join a group. No offence Lone Wolf but you won't last long on your own.

yes very good Max, but the point is 99% of the UK urban population will have none of the things you listed and wont know how to use them anyway.
and not such a drawn out event either. the demise of most of the population without access to food and clean water could be just a few months. starvation and dehydration are not pretty.
and your remark about lone wolves is not only offensive its also wrong, it depends on the person, the skills and the knowledge, not the numbers. I think 12 years off grid alone without power of any kind qualifies.

Lonewolf has a good grasp on the death expectancy in the U.K. . The complacent attitude I see from some of the U.K. residence is astounding . They seem to think the food producing countries will always send them food or rescue them from a foreign invader . Right now one of those countries the U.K. depends on is under attack by communist " the United States " . If a civil war befalls the U.S. over the next few weeks food exports to other countries will cease . We will not be going to rescue any other county from foreign intervention into their government system either . -- As Lone Wolf knows growing a garden is not just a matter of putting seeds in the ground and waiting for your food . Without gardening experience the vast majority of first time gardeners will fail to reap any of the food they are trying to grow . Even if they did succeed in producing a crop there is a high chance someone would steal it from the garden . --- Communist China is now probing for weaknesses they can exploit in the U.K. just as they are also probing the U.S. using black lives matter and Antifa . All with the blessing of the U.S. Democrat party . --- China has made no secret they intend to rule the planet . Their first objective is to cut the head off the snake as they look at it " the United States " . If they succeed likely the U.K. will be second in their country hopping campaign .

Was thinking about Lonewolfs post...and others too...

The one thing I noted for it's absence is seed corn....The seed needed to plant next years crop...This is going to be important.

Was also thinking about the ability to protect your crop from looters...all the way to market....

I don't think such a scenario will be that bad in the States but definitely not good...

Not good no matter where it happens..

Seems to me that in WW1...with the early submarine warfare that the UK was close to some 2 weeks of food stores and other supplies to keep the country going..

I suspect that by WW2 the UK government was better versed in what the potential was of total submarine warfare...to their food and other vital supplies.

Not sure about todays leadership educated mostly in emotions and pandering to the crowds.....popularity polls. Herding others to gain votes and support...massive freebees..bread and circuses.
    Ishmaelites.

Was thinking that with such freebee give away governments/leadership...you would have to carefully camouflage your garden/crop or the government would be the main thief/looter....should such an scenario take place...

Your playing devils advocate but preaching to the choir here.

I went through you long list and couldn't find anything that I don't have covered, or most of the members here don't have covered, for far longer than just 6 months. A year is a more sensible minimum. So if you call two people still lone wolf survival then I'm with Lonewolf (that's confusing lol) in that is all about how deep your preps are. How much knowledge and experience you have. And probably how long you've had to put everything together. I shudder at the thought of joining some random group post SHTF.

thats the trouble with groups, unless you have your group up and running before SHTF actually happens and most groups fall apart long before any kind of event, then your dealing with complete strangers who wont have your best interests to heart.
that so, I'll stick to lone wolf in that case. I dont like other people at the best of times and SHTF isnt one of those.

    Good afternoon Rebecca and Lonewolf,

There is a sizable and high-quality corpus of knowledge of groups - preexisting, newly-created, etc - in re the WWII partisans living in the eastern European forests. There's also some literature on some of the Asian groups. This literature is both the history aspects and the psychology aspects.

This literature supports what you're saying.

Groups will form after any major failure, its basic human nature, we are fundamentally tribal and groups will grow organically, just come together sort of thing, basic division of labour, skill and resource pooling will happen IMHO.

One of the best no BS survival guys is Ray Mears, he talked about the partisan groups in Belarus which will be online somewhere if you look for it.

Here you go LW, this will be you

Max Rigger I would agree to a large degree on people wanting to group up . Then there are exceptions such as Lone Wolf . Personally I would have no problem going it alone but circumstances has dictated otherwise as I have a strong family with all four of my kids staying on our beautiful mountain retreat . We have built 3 houses on it and are working on a forth . However a group without strong ties , say the neighbors that just happen to be living in the area but want to feel more comfortable having someone around , I wouldn't have much confidence in them being stand up people when the shooting starts . --- A problem I can see possibly arising in my case is having people wanting to join our little group when S.H.T.F. as we have a reputation amongst relatives and " to some degree the county " as being a well prepared group . We actually have out of state relatives with loads of money that choose to come to our retreat for days at a time for a vacation . And truthfully I can't blame them .

IMHO The survival rate is going to be variable depending on a lot of factors. Where you live, what time of year it is, and the nature of the disaster. Places like NYC and LA just plain have too many people in too small of an area and if the cars and such are down I don't think many would survive walking out. Maybe the first wave might have some success but after that, it would be a horrific effort with little hope of success. A total system crash in the dead of winter would be tough to survive in a big city. What the cold didn't kill the fires from people having fires in places not ever meant to have open fires will burn most of the apartments down.

A vast majority of people are going to sit and wait for the power to come back on or some authority figures to show up and tell them what to do. When people start to starve to death it is going to get UGLY fast and the liberals without guns will be like a crippled pigeon at a cat convention. If you want to know how many people that will be, wait until the election and understand that most of the Biden supporters will be dead meat without a government sugar tit to support and protect them.

Millions will die because they are dependent on modern medicines and things like heat and AC to keep them alive. There is going to be massive violence and in the big cities the have nots that have guns are going to take what they want from the haves that have no way to defend what they have. In the event of a total and permanant break down, I feel like 90% is a very likely number. No stores and no shipping means no food. No power means no water and sewer. The old school monsters will kill millions. Typhoid and god know what all is going to be in all open water and people will be too stupid to boil it or filter it.

To those of us here it is second nature but for someone that has never thought about it is going to do like they see people do in the movies and just drink the water if it looks clean. Expect food poisoning to get a bunch of people. No Fridge will make it very easy for bad things to grow in your food. Most people, because of our so very clean environment, have almost no imune system or the ability for their body to deal with things that meant nothing to our ancesters.

I've had this old discussion about groups vs lone wolves for many years.
whilst it is true very few people will survive SHTF if they dont have the help of other people, it is also very true that we dont know how other people will behave in such an event and if they arent a relative or very close friend(one we have known for many years ) then the outcome may not be that nice.
on the other hand living on ones own or say just a married couple we dont have to carry any "dead wood", we know what has to be done and we just get on with it, its not for most people and most of the population could not live like this but for some people its the only way.
it also depends on the country one is in, the location within that country, and the type of event, but in the "big one" the survival rate amongst modern 21 st century people with the emphasis on computers not physical skills will not be very high. especially once the infrastructure shuts down and the supply chain collapses.

There will always be people who choose to go solo, from choice or perhaps they are forced out of a group but logic says their long term survival rate will be lower than a well organised group.

The other aspect is long term survival. For long term survival you need growth, established food supply sort of thing where a solo camper is really just surviving, scratching a living which has no appeal long term for me. Lets say your on your own, you land a lot of fish and dry it, who's going to guard that while your out looking for more food, who will maintain your shelter, who will help you when your ill or injured; to put it simply, you can't do it all on your own especially as you get older.

I've seen 40 and I'm very fit for my age but I ain't as fit as I was 10 or 20 years ago, I won't heal as fast and thats a fact and it will only get worse as I age and this is the same for everyone.

You want or have to go solo...good luck.

The key phrase in your post is "Well organized group". A small family unit is most likely a well organized Group (more than one person - husband and wife team). There are good and bad points to being a single person in a shtf event. Injuries, medical issues and security are at risk, as Max stated. But on the positive side, less food required, smaller footprint left on the terrain. Foraging and trapping could feed a single person. Larger groups require more food, bigger shelters and more resources. Always a trade off.
