If you want your children to be indoctrinated into the woke society, send them to public school. If you do not want to be bothered educating your children, send them to public school. If you want a highly educated and knowledgeable child, home school them and make damn sure they learn all the basics, not the socialistic dogma taught at public schools. Public schools teach to the lowest level, so no child is left behind. Home schooling allows the parent to maximize learning at the highest level their child is capable.

schooling or rather teaching will be very different post collapse than it is now,
at the moment pupils are taught a curriculum based education, very standardised, post collapse they will be taught what they need to know, reading writing and arithmetic yes but also practical subjects they need to master to survive.

Most State run schools in the UK use the Comprehensive system
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compr...gland and Wales, a,of the children it accepts.

There are still Grammar Schools which set an entrance test you must pass before they take you onboard. Most are private but not all, some are State funded.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammar_school

Personally I like the GS system, they get to pick the brighter children which in turn forms a healthy peer pressure envoienment and the pupils tend to perform better academically.

In normal times I'd personally never opt for home schooling, youngsters need the social aspects of group education but at the end of the day its up to the parent and of course if its allowed. What I hate to see these days is politics and religion in teaching; thats down to the parents and not teachers IMO. I'm all for raising awareness of sexuality in all its forms and of course a good sex education but please, don't indoctrinate the kids and tell how they must feel about issues...thats the worst kind of dumbing down.

Social activities can be provided to the children, outside of school. Sports, social / hobby clubs, 4H groups, and in the past (before they went woke) scouting. Children do not need to attend public schools to obtain socialization experiences. In fact the children will get better and safer social experiences outside of schools, which do not have the time or interest in watching out for bullies and miscreants. Social groups are more closer monitored by the numerous participating parents.

I love after school clubs and groups, I enjoyed a few but if thats how kids mainly socialise its too controlled an environment, too restrictive to child development. Kids need large groups and need to take a knock or two, its all part of growing up. To be honest if I were lucky enough to have another child I'd pay for a private school education for her or him because bar the grammar schools I'm not impressed with UK state education.

What I would say on the subject is that well planned and structured home schooling that has been undertaken by choice is a world away from what has happened with home schooling forced upon unprepared parents during the Covid-19 lockdown. The two should not really be compared.

I sort of agree, but just because you want to home school it may not make you a good teacher. Very difficult to really monitor standards with home schooling given the pupils are scattered all over the place.

Here in the states, home schooled children are given standardized test (by the state), to make sure that they are on or above the grade level they should be. Parents are told this and what happens if the children aren't properly schooled at the time they inform the state of there choice. This isn't the pioneer days. Children need a good education.

Government teachers often haven't had necessary math courses such as analytic geometry and calculus. Parents who often work in the real world have had such courses as part of the prerequisites of their employment. For children to make it nowadays, their IQs must be above 12o else not make it in the land of technology. Teacher's often do not possess these abilities. Sometimes teachers have verbal reasoning, yet no logic/math skills.

Teachers should be paid more, but they must BE more. Just getting by no longer cuts it.

Witness the 1950s when engineering thrived. We had to crank-out superior kids to make nations grow. Now witness the crumbling for there are no rigid high standards.

Also, home-schooled children can be disciplined. In public education, kids are allowed to fail without being punished for poor behavior. In inner city schools, superior children are surrounded by children who not only haven't the ability to excel, they are overtly aggressive and anti-social. Many children and their teachers live in fear of violence.

Without discipline and ordered behavioral patterns, humans are but shaved apes.

Many, if not most, home-schooled kids have two parents which enables education, discipline, economic security, and a natural environment in which to grow. Single-parent households most times are places without discipline/order. A male teenager will do whatever he can get by with. A male teenager needs a father image to respect. Respect is born of fear. I feared my father and the other men of my community. To stray, meant VERY negative consequences.

Crime causes poverty. Lack of discipline negates education.

Here are some of today's "children's activities":

    https://www.theepochtimes.com/mayor...tml?utm_source=partner&utm_campaign=ZeroHedge

"An Atlanta city councilman running for mayor, who last year supported a measure to reduce city police funding by tens of millions of dollars, had his car stolen by children on Wednesday, he and police confirmed.

"After the children got into the vehicle and were about to leave, Brown said he held onto his car and was dragged about a block down the road before he let go of it, adding that the driver 'started to go faster and faster.'

"Brown said that he doesn’t plan on filing charges against the children.

"The councilman’s car was stolen in the midst of a crime wave that’s hit major metropolitan areas. Atlanta is no different as homicides are up 52 percent from the same time last year, while the number of shootings has increased 40 percent, according to the Atlanta Police Department."

    Ah, youth!

Not having a pop at you but I am so happy my brother and I and our children never had to grow up in such a negative environment. Respect is not born of fear its earned by demonstration of good character. Growing up living in fear breeds bullies or folk riddled with timidity, in effect they are broken people. My sympathy to you and anyone else growing up and living under fear of adults who are the very people they should feel the safest and most comfortable people to be surrounded by.

Those like myself are anything but broken.
You are weak, for you have not had to face the true hardness that life inevitably brings.
The day will come when you and your brother will have to face that which you are unprepared to face.

different generation, my father and my friends fathers were all strict and could be heavy handed, child chastisement was legal back then, we learned to step lightly around them, I was closer to my mother anyway.
when I got to about 13 or 14 I could stand up for myself and did, after that my father had to tread lightly around ME.

The army today still has its share of kids who sign up to get away from bad homes, kids living on the streets to get away from abuse etc which is not a great boast for 21st century parenthood.

LOL and not the first to face those options either. In my experience the army will either get your brain in focus and you do well post army or you become so reliant on the army giving your life structure you fall flat on your face in civvie street.

As LW stated above, it is a generation thing but here in the states, it's also a regional thing. The area known as Appalachia is a hard area here. The land is hard as are it's people. There is no real agriculture here and no manufacturing. The only thing raised here are children and in general you grew up fast and you grew up hard. Both of my parents had bad tempers and as the oldest, I paid the price and took the brunt of it. Many of my cousins grew up the same way as did my wife. I don't have a school picture in which I either don't have a black eye or a busted mouth. I didn't know it was different until I was grown. . Most here grew up and either went to work in the coal mines or joined the military. Not many jobs here. Not trying to excuse anything, just telling you what is.

I grew up that way as did my wife. We made a change with our children. Change has to start somewhere.

I think things have gone too far the other way these days, too liberal, too namby pamby, I was taught to stand on my own two feet but these days kids teenagers have it all their own way, we were taught actions have consequences and I'm not sure kids know that these days, they seem to get away with everything, some times even murder..literally.

That was my wife's number one reason for retiring. The "I want it" generation. She was big on always teaching her students that there are consequences to everything that you do. The parents of this generation though, don't want there little Johnny or Susie to be held accountable for there actions. There little demon spawn wouldn't do anything wrong. It must have been another child.

Maybe if the parents had some common sense beat into them, the kids would turn out better.

You are SPOT ON! Things have gone way to far the other way.

From what I saw at local schools when the wife was working, I'd say about 60 - 40, with the 60% being good. It seemed to get worse every year she worked. I was so happy when she got to retire. Some are just bat shit crazy!

Public schools have been on the decline for a long time. It reached the point at one time that they were graduating kids that were illiterate and could not add and subtract much less do multiplication or division. The problem was that if they graded kids based on their efforts and grades it was discriminatory because the black kids were failing at a much higher rate than other kids. The schools were so afraid to law suits that they basically made the high school diploma an attendance award.

I understand that things are a little better now but from what I’ve seen they are still allowing kids to just float through. My Dad finally had to start making applicants for jobs take a test. It was heart breaking how many kids couldn’t pass what was basically a 7th grade equivalency test. Without a calculator they could not do basic math like add, subtract much less multiply or divide. They were not capable of reading the directions on the test. There was a part that was clearly labeled. This part is for the person giving the test to fill out. It was questions like how is the applicant’s appearance? Does the applicant have any experience and be able to do the job without basically training them from the bottom up?….Etc. He used this part as a quick filter. If someone filled that part out their application went straight to the trash. Almost 25% filled it out!

My Granddaughter has gone to a private school from the start. This last year she was homeschooled from the private school via online classes because of the Covid mess. She will go back to school next year. My daughter had planned on being a teacher/coach, but things are so messed up in public schools that she took her degree in another direction. The biggest problem was that she had worked her way through college at a truck stop and would have had to take a cut in pay and worked more hours to be a teacher/coach. THAT was sad!

Your comment reminded me of a post I read a few years ago. It was written by a retired mental health nurse who'd trained back in the early 70s and he said that back then they had old fella's in hospital who'd been addmitted decades ago suffering with 'shell shock' from WW1 and 'younger' patients who got messed up in WW2. Back then if you had 'shell shock' you often got sectioned and removed from society.

He also talked of several guys who were day patients and had become morphine/opiate addicts during WW2 who held down steady jobs but could not kick the habit and needed support.

PTSD has been around a long long time but thankfully its now recognised more and help is more readily available.

Several posts earlier in the thread speak of the link between fear and respect. Speaking as someone who endured some quite extreme violence as a child I can catagorically state that fear does not create respect. My Father and I are not close, my feelings for him amount to contempt and mis trust..certainly not respect.

Sometimes surviving, was the problem. The suicide rate for US veterans is twice that of the civilian rate. The VA says 20 veterans a day take there own life. The military teaches us everything we need to know about combat, but how to live with it all after your discharged.

Ystranc, that is tragic mate, flucking tragic. I can't imagine growing up like that. I grew up in awe of my parents, I was facinated watching them do something, make something, bake a cake or make a campfire whatever and it was always "think you can do that? come on give it a go" and when I messed up it would be "well you made a right mess of that lets have another go" Off dad I got the "if you have a problem think it through, make a plan to solve it and stick with the plan and add or take away as needed" and thats served me well in life and I'll be forever grateful for that trait.

At 14, like many adolescents, I began to get "short"/smart-ass with my mom. My dad put me up against a wall and said, "You will stop." I stopped that sh##.

You can tell when people have not been disciplined. They have a certain arrogance about them. They are "full of themselves".

In the survival world, arrogance = death.

Being a prepper one cannot worry when such people perish.

Decades and decades ago, I was in a lunchroom; some young man had a seizure and died; resuscitation attempts failed. Everyone was shocked, they seemed paralyzed; they stared at the unfolding of this most-unfortunate event. I finished my lunch and left. Sure wasn't the first person I ever watched die.

Max, You have no idea how lucky you were to grow up like that. My kids grew up that way. Every child should grow up that way.

I still remember the last time my parents hit me. I was 14 the last time my mom hit me. She flew mad over I don't know what and smashed one of the old hand mirrors on my shoulder. Glass flew everywhere. I just turned and asked what that was for. She realized she couldn't hurt me any more and cleaned up the glass.
My dad. I was 15 and helping reroof a building when I didn't do something fast enough to suit him. He whacked me with a 2 by 4 board and knocked me off the roof. I walked off and was gone over a week before coming home. The following year I quit high school and went to the Rocky Mountains and trapped fur. The next year I enlisted in the army.

Growing up was hard but I still loved my parents.

Youth of today have no limits set for them externally. Therefore, they imagine that the world is without limits. This is a dire mistake.

The importance of meal times is often overlooked, its those times of the day when a family is together eating and talking. Rule in my house is NO phones at the table, comes time to eat you turn your phone off and leave it away from the table and thats a house rule I apply to friends too; if I've taken the time to cook a great meal then you respect that effort and turn your phone off. One of my lads girlfriends told him "Your dads a f*****g facist" when they split up LOL Lovely girl

Agreed but families don't make the effort shifts or not. Most Europeans don't eat until much later than brits. I hate kids eating their own even if there's a couple of them. Eating with your kids is a great way to pick up early on any issues they may be having and also they eat adult food and not chicken nuggets and fries or a McCrap happy meal.

For many Europeans, certainly Italy and Spain, lunch is the big meal of the day but I prefer a later evening dinner. Had cold meat and home made pickles for lunch and we'll have some pork belly I'm braising in cider around 20:00 tonight :) I prefer to eat between 19:00 and 21:30.

There is no real need to use much in the way of processed food and ready meals type of thing apart from cost. Lot of families on benefits just can't afford fresh food :(

thats a load of rubbish, if one shops around meals can be quite cheap but most prefer to just bung something in a microwave and call it "cooking". we do batch cooking from fresh in a slow cooker and it makes meals very cheap.
I bet they've all got mobile phones!

Most simply don't want the work involved with cooking. I've been poor so I know, if your willing to work out a budget and stick to it you can eat well....if you cook.

Of course if the biden regime keeps up the Keynesian pump-priming and its pipeline closings, a head of lettuce will soon be $150 for those who dwell in the cities.

The farmers and the truckers will say that there was no diesel for their tractors and their trucks. And it will be true. Pipelines are being shut down, plus we are now witnessing the Middle East descend into war. Pumping oil is against the Will of Gaia according to the tree-hugging socialist voters. Windmills and solar cells are sacred; all else is evil. Crazy days.

Preppers will go out to their gardens for their produce. Preppers aren't afraid of work ... neither were their ancestors.

25 years ago I supported my family on $425 a month which included rent, groceries and utilities, while I was in college. Anyone that says they can't make it on government handouts.....isn't trying. My belief is that excuses are like A**holes,...Everyone's got one.

Failure is easy, that is why so many people embrace it. Excuses are only good for those that make them. Poverty is the true equality club, and is available to all races, nationality, genders and peoples. Those willing to expend the extra time, effort and determination, can leave this group.
