One of the links of which I try to keep on my Favorites list is the National Hurricane Center.

    National Hurricane Center (noaa.gov)

Living on the coast here in Virginia, I consider this a must.

I am keeping an eye on this tropical storm Elsa down in the Caribbean.

As a result I have automatically started my charging cycles on my ham radio walkie talkies. as well as the spare batteries for them. My spare car batteries out in my garage as well as my Deep Cycle battery.

Going through my list of preps ....just with this kind of thing in the back of my mind.

My short wave receivers as well as my ham radio base station.

Also I have put back some 5 ....40 count packs of AA Batteries just for such emergencies.

Will be charging/re charing my rechargable flashlights as well.

This will not be the last storm of the season so it is good to stay on top of things while time allows.

    Thanks for sharing Chris.

I think we tend to underestimate the weather as a threat that needs prepping for and paying attention to. It can be quite unpredictable at times (in a non-scientific sense) and weather related incidents account for huge amounts of deaths across the globe every year, from wildfires to exposure, flooding etc.

As our climate changes some areas will suffer increased risks, not just of serious weather events (for example the dreadful heat related wildfires in Canada just now) but also small changes that may affect food production and, potentially, lead to food shortages etc.

we are already seeing some sea creatures that would never be seen here normally, Walruses, Seals, and larger creatures like Orca's and others, many here because of warmer sea temperatures other being knocked off course by violent storms.

Took time before shoving off to gas up my fuel containers in particular the containers for my scooters as I can also add 2 cycle oil to them as needed for chain saws and other equipment.

Have come alongs and jacks pre positioned...as well

Also my water containers are pre positioned and ready to clean and fill them up.

Last minute will wind up tying some yard equipment down but have plenty of 1/8th nylon rope to so do.

    Watching events take place.

Haiti just hit with major earthquake will get hit with ropical storm, Grace, headed its way. This storm will greatly hamper rescue efforts, post-earthquake.

"Powerful Haiti Earthquake With 'High Casualties' to Be Bookended by Heavy Rains From Fred, Grace"

    https://www.newsweek.com/powerful-h...ties-bookended-heavy-rains-fred-grace-1619420

"Tropical Storm Grace is expected to reach Haiti early next week, just as the nation will be recovering from a powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit off the coast Saturday. The quake is expected cause 'high casualties' and 'widespread' disaster, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

"The storm is expected to reach Haiti by Monday night and is estimated to bring anywhere from two to four inches of rain to parts of the country, according to AccuWeather, a forecasting service."

"Henri Strengthens To Hurricane Status, High Risk For Power Outages, Flooding In Region"

    https://dailyvoice.com/new-york/mam...-for-power-outages-flooding-in-region/814942/

"Packed with 75 mile-per-hour winds, Henri has now strengthened to hurricane status as it barrels toward the Northeast with millions at risk of flooding and power outages.

    "It became a Category 1 hurricane around 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21.

"Hurricane and Storm Surge Warnings are in effect for portions of Long Island, and southern New England with Tropical Storm Warnings elsewhere.

"Henri (pronounced ON-ree) is now expected to accelerate northward on Saturday, and make landfall on Long Island or southern New England on Sunday, Aug. 22.

"In addition to hurricane conditions and dangerous surge, heavy rainfall may lead to considerable flooding in parts of the region Sunday into Monday, Aug. 23.

"The latest models were released Saturday morning by the National Weather Service NOAA National Hurricane Center.

"If it strengthens to hurricane status as expected, Henri could be the first hurricane to make landfall in New England since Bob in 1991."

O.Gzr sez: Looks like we will see how well prepared the urbanites are for flooding and loss of their precious electricity. My money is on the urbanites demanding that Big Brother make all the bad things go away.

Maybe the White House will come to their aid even as it did to get the Americans out of Afghanistan before the savages took over.

Looting. There was a bunch of looting when Sandy hit in 2012. The looters banged on doors and said that they were relief workers, threatening to break down the doors "to make sure everyone inside was OK". Here is a video of a Staten Island resident who got flooded; after which, he was looted of all the tools he needed for his trade.

    Uh oh! Here comes Ida!

"Menacing Hurricane Ida May Damage 1 Million Homes On Gulf Coast"

    https://www.zerohedge.com/weather/menacing-hurricane-ida-may-damage-1-million-homes-gulf-coast

"In an energy note Friday, we noted how offshore oil and natural gas explorers are shuttering platforms and evacuating workers. There's also concern that the hurricane could disrupt major chemical plants along the Gulf Coast that may send record plastic prices to "stratospheric" levels.

"Besides impacting the energy industry, Ida "could damage close to 1 million homes along the U.S. Gulf Coast" and cause upwards of "$220 billion," according to Bloomberg, citing a new CoreLogic report.

"The property and data analytics firm is worried that a dangerous storm surge could hit 941,392 properties in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Storm surge data from NHC shows an exceptional storm surge is highly probable in Louisiana when the hurricane makes landfall.

"All eyes are on Ida this weekend as it could damage up to a million homes, disrupt oil and gas assets offshore and on land, and devastate coastal communities trying to rebuild their economies since the economic crash during COVID."

As W.Chris has stated at the beginning of this thread, keep an eye on the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports if you are now on the Gulf Coast or have to be there for business in the coming week. There's gonna be a bunch of flight cancellations and no doubt evacuation warnings for low-lying areas.

I have always lived far from coastlines and thus cannot offer any personal information on hurricane preparations. I find it so horrible for innocent folk to have to rebuild their earthly abodes; then while doing so, have to put up with looters. Looters -- especially those who prey upon those dealing with grand misfortune -- should be shot when caught hauling away their stolen items. "Looter", should be spray-painted on their lifeless bodies. Toss them into the swamps as gator food.

    Looter, "I'm not dead yet!"

Citizen, "Hold that thought, I see a pair of eyes swimming your way."

    Ida info, continued from above

Here's some decent information I found on the web. Preppers who have had to deal with hurricanes, please do add to the following list. Me, I'd put back supplies for a longer period of time than the following list recommends. I mean, who knows how long the power will be out! Who knows when you will be able to return to your home! Always plan on worst-case scenarios. People who've endured previous hurricanes likely already have their preparations in place; however, I know that a lot of folk have been leaving northern cities and moving to the South. If you are new to the coast, you may just think about bugging out'a there ... certainly if you are in the hurricane path's cross-hairs.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/t...rs-evacuations-preparing-your-home/ar-AANQCy4

All of the following (in color blue) is directly from the above article; it's a total cut'n'paste copy:

    What Should I Do

    — Listen to a NOAA Weather Radio for critical information from the National Weather Service.

    — Check your disaster supplies and replace or restock as needed.

    — Bring in anything that can be picked up by the wind (bicycles, lawn furniture).

    — Close windows, doors and hurricane shutters. If you do not have hurricane shutters, close and board up all windows and doors with plywood.

    — Turn the refrigerator and freezer to the coldest setting and keep them closed as much as possible so that food will last longer if the power goes out.

    — Turn off propane tanks and unplug small appliances.

    — Fill your car’s gas tank.

    — Talk with members of your household and create an evacuation plan. Planning and practicing your evacuation plan minimizes confusion and fear during the event.

    What Supplies Do I Need?

    — Water: at least a three-day supply; one gallon per person per day

    – Food: at least a 3-day supply of non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food

    – Flashlight

    – Battery-powered or hand-crank radio (NOAA Weather Radio, if possible)

    – Extra batteries

    – First aid kit

    – Medications (seven-day supply) and medical items (hearing aids with extra batteries,

    glasses, contact lenses, syringes, cane)

    – Multi-purpose tool

    – Sanitation and personal hygiene items

    – Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies)

    – Cell phone with chargers

    – Family and emergency contact information

    – Extra cash

    – Emergency blanket

    – Map(s) of the area

    – Baby supplies (bottles, formula, baby food, diapers)

    – Pet supplies (collar, leash, ID, food, carrier, bowl)

    – Tools/supplies for securing your home

    – Extra set of car keys and house keys

    – Extra clothing, hat and sturdy shoes

    – Rain gear

    – Insect repellent and sunscreen

    – Camera for photos of damage
    ======================

    End of quote

Hey preppers out there; again, if you see gaps in the item-list above, do add your inputs to this thread.

    re: Looting

"Looting After a Hurricane: It's Not About the Bread"

    https://www.huffpost.com/entry/looting-national-disaster_b_2042776

Even the hand-wringing Leftists get angry about the dirty behavior of looters.

Some people stay in their homes when evacuation warnings are sounded. They do so to fight-off looters. Please do not do this! You can't fight-off looters if you drown in hurricane flood waters. You cannot swim in water that has heavy sharp debris swooshing by -- this stuff will chew you up worse than a great white shark. Think about this, the waters of a flood weigh millions of tons. One gallon of water weighs 8 pounds / 3.6 kilo. These millions of tons of water are moving at over 20 miles per hour ... or far faster. This is an unstoppable force. Houses wash away as if they were cardboard toys.

Lands and towns hundreds of miles from the coastal impact of a hurricane ALWAYS experience flood waters. Creeks turn into rivers. Rivers come out of their banks. So, here is a link to flood maps:

Gonna get ahold of my friend out near Jefferson City ,Tenn. and warn. I expect he is on top of it but will reinforce.

I am expecting they will get a bit of rain and it may accumulate in the valleys and streams...and possibly overflow.

Going back almost a century ago, I had kin living in Jefferson City. When visiting as a boy, one great uncle of mine would always hand me a silver dollar. God's Eternal Peace be upon him. Ever since then, I valued having real coinage (not fiat; fiat coins are just tokens). I'm holding four old silver half dollars in my left hand right now. Silver to my left. A gun to my right. The verses revealed by God to His Prophets are written in the books on the shelves. He is Sufficient unto all things.

I'm older than half of these half dollars! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Hurricane Ida is hitting Louisiana today at category 4 strength, winds up to 150 mph / 241 kph /130 knots. These wind speeds are over the gulf waters; once it hits land, they will diminish. Last time a storm this powerful hit was in 1856. I'm thinking that the population back then was just a little bit lower. The current metro area population for New Orleans is around one million people and the Baton Rouge metro area is around 750,000. This monster storm is over 150 miles wide.

    Quotations are in color BLUE.

Al Roker: Hurricane Ida's Eye Wall Is 'Basically A 15-Mile Wide F3 Tornado'

    https://weather.com/storms/hurrican...andfall-louisiana-gulf-coast?cm_ven=hp-slot-1

Hurricane Ida has made landfall in southeast Louisiana as a powerful Category 4, where it's bringing life-threatening storm surge, catastrophic winds and dangerous rainfall flooding.

Ida's center crossed the coast near Port Fourchon, Louisiana, at 11:55 a.m. CDT. Maximum sustained winds were 150 mph, making Ida a high-end Category 4.

Ida has tied two other hurricanes for the strongest landfall on record in the state of Louisiana based on maximum wind speeds. Laura had 150-mph winds when it tracked into southwest Louisiana last year. The other hurricane to make landfall in Louisiana with winds that high was in 1856.

Me too...Olde Geezer....I have four real genuine silver dollars in my left pocket and another four in my right levi coin pocket...

The other day...the gal who cut my hair...I tipped her a real silver dollar...

Agree....real coinage....a genuine just weight and measure...to the dollar weight as the coinage acts would state..

Not a phony system of weights and measures today ...such as a Susan B. Anthony Dollar in copper nickel which is only 2/3s the size and weight of a 50 cent piece yet claims to be worth twice as much.

You have to become educated to be so stupid...yet few seem to notice. Someone in this insane system has pulled a fantastic con job on us and very very few notice how demonically retarded it is.

    Ishmaelites run wild..

Post hurricane Ida, the looting begins.

    https://policetribune.com/looting-begins-in-new-orleans-in-wake-of-hurricane-ida/

"New Orleans, LA – A weather videographer who was filming the destruction from Hurricane Ida in New Orleans captured video of looters attempting to get the cash out of a bank machine early on Monday morning.

"Videos and still photos posted to social media after the storm showed some community members were making efforts to stop looters themselves.

“'In Bay St. Louis post-#Ida. The #looters are out. Tires floated from a shop on 603. Guys in truck were trying to steal them. This woman ran them off. Always opportunists when people are hurting after a hurricane. Hate it! #mswx,' a reporter for McClatchy tweeted.

"Many on social media were critical of the sheriff’s plan to deploy anti-looting squads and questioned the city’s priorities."

"New Orleans Hit by Looting in Wake of Hurricane Ida as Louisiana Residents Face Several Weeks Without Power"

    https://bcnn1wp.wordpress.com/2021/...a-residents-face-several-weeks-without-power/

Louisiana residents have reported cases of alleged looting in the wake of Hurricane Ida amid fears crime could spiral in New Orleans and other cities after energy suppliers warned that power will be out for at least three weeks as utility crews work to restore more than 2,000 miles of downed energy lines across the state.

Accuweather’s Dr. Joel N. Myers said on Monday that the total economic damage caused by Ida will likely fall between $70billion and $80billion.

Mississippi’s governor, Tate Reeves, said that 20 water rescues were staged in three counties on Monday. In total, some 85,000 Mississippians were without power as of late Monday.

    --------------------------------------------------

Highway washes-out; cars go flying into bank on other side of river; occupants killed or critically injured. (Newly-formed river, I should say.)

    https://observerdesk.com/2-died-in-louisiana-while-a-highway-collapse-in-mississippi/

"A two-lane highway was washed away in Lucedale, Mississippi causing a deep hole in the highway. A crate of 20 feet deep and 50 feet in length was created on the highway which caused seven vehicles to dive into it causing huge wreckage on the highway.

"As many as 2 people died and several were injured. Three out of the injured people were said to be in critical condition."

"LUCEDALE, Mississippi (AP) – Two people were killed and at least 10 others were injured when their vehicle crashed into a deep hole where a stretch of freeway collapsed after Hurricane Ida hit Mississippi.

"Corporal Cal Robertson, of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, said the downpours likely caused the collapse, and that the other victims may not have seen the road ahead of them disappear when they were there. drove to this place on the evening of Monday, August 30.

"Corporal Robertson said: 'Some vehicles were found lying on top of other vehicles.'

"The spokesman said a total of six cars and a motorcycle fell into the pit and a crane was brought in to tow the vehicles up.

"Local broadcaster WDSU-TV reported that state police officers, paramedics and emergency crews had reached the section of Highway 26, west of Lucedale, about 60 miles (96 km) from Biloxi. ) to the northeast, and saw both the east and west directions collapse.

"Spokesman Robertson said the hole was about 50 to 60 feet (15 to 18 m) long and 20 to 30 feet (6 to 9 m) deep."

"Some in Louisiana could be without power for more than 3 weeks in Hurricane Ida's wake"

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/hurricane-ida-louisiana-power-outages-3-weeks/

"Hurricane Ida devastated Louisiana on Sunday, leaving more than a million people in the region without power. And now, the state's power provider says that those who were directly in Ida's path could be without power for more than three weeks as many areas hit by the storm are under a heat advisory.

"Electric company Entergy said on Monday that the storm, which hit the state as a Category 4, took down transmission and power poles and caused outages for roughly 895,000 people. Eight high-voltage lines were damaged, and in one case, a transmission tower's conductor and wires fell and landed in the Mississippi River.

"It could take several days to fully assess the damage, Entergy said, but 'based on historical restoration times, customers in the direct path of a storm as intense as Hurricane Ida could experience outages for more than three weeks.'" ...

I was just informed , I may be heading to southern New Orleans tomorrow along with my daughter . A crew of power line workers are sleeping in their trucks and have no food . Our mission - delivering food , water and coffee . They do have phone service or at least one guy does , they look rough and haggled . We did a similar mission when Katrina hit so we are fully aware of the danger . We will be entering the aftermath well armed . Hopefully the higher up of the Missouri power line company can run a rescue mission today so as we can cancel our mission to that hell hole .

If you have to pull the mission, all the luck in the world to you!

This world is soooooo far removed from the Divine, that I mightily go for the luck factor. One prays for God's Mercy, but we are down here so deep in the mud and the poop, that getting His Grace and Mercy is a mighty challenge to say the least.

update - power line crews are withdrawing or stopping short of the devastation of Hurricane Ida . All of the energy crews were just informed the lawless people in the devastated area are running rampant . They will not try to restore electricity until some resemblance of civility is restored . This from a crew hunkered down in southern Mississippi awaiting for defunded law enforcement to stop the looting and savagery . I haven't got word yet from the crew in southern New Orleans as to whether they are getting ready to retreat to a safer location further north . Hopefully my daughter and my rescue mission will not be necessary . --- Power line crews are made up of some rough characters including ex-cons from prison . When they consider the danger level too high to enter a area , you can bet it is very bad .

Great information! Thank you so much for this intel. MSM will not report the news when it is in opposition to their collectivist agenda. I hope the savages get their @$$es shot off and their bodies fed to the local gator & possum populations. Back in the "good ol' days" in my neck of the woods the aggressive genetic refuse (noun) got to be vulture & possum food "somewherz back in'th'mountnz". If you steal from those in dire straights, your soul becomes unknown to God.

The rescue mission to southern New Orleans has been canceled . The power line workers received food and a bed . This was one mission I am glad was canceled . --- I have not had contact with the crew in Mississippi today , so I don't know whether they are restoring downed lines today or still waiting for the higher ups to declare the danger level of having to deal with panicked and unprepared citizens has diminished enough for them to enter the stricken area .

Whatever you find out, keep us informed. A former physician of mine was the county Sheriff Department's physician and he would go to disaster areas. He was ex-military and one super soul who put his soul in alignment with God's Will. My God's Graces be showered down upon him. My God's Holy Grace and Mercy shine down upon your lot also, Pontirgist. Among the missions entrusted to our souls is the support of souls who are in dire straights. This world is a mix of chaos and Order, thus chaos is ever present -- it is something to be conquered.

"As Criminals Take Advantage of Ida's Chaos, National Guard Called in to Enforce Mandatory Curfew"

    https://www.westernjournal.com/crim...tional-guard-called-enforce-mandatory-curfew/

"New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson later during the news briefing divulged that the city is experiencing reports of looting in the aftermath of Ida.

“'We have received numerous calls of looting, and as such, we have made several arrests.' ...

"Asked about instances of looting, Ferguson later told reporters there have been reports of looting in numerous neighborhoods throughout New Orleans.

“'Looters have targeted no specific area, but we are asking our business owners to [protect themselves]. But we’re not just going to leave it upon them. It’s our duty, it’s our responsibility to help this with this,' he said.

"He also reported that the National Guard is working to combat looters."
