Civil unrest often leads to a riot.

Having been in a couple full blown riots as a police officer I suggest staying away,
as far away as you can.
If one can't escape such unrest then stay indoors and stay out of sight.
Arm yourself if need be but only if danger is imminent.
If one must use a weapon in self defense be sure the attacker is permanently "neutralized".
You want the only story told to be YOUR story.
    Just sayin'.
The last thing anyone wants to be the star if a grand jury investigation.
    Trust me.
I've been sued at jury FOUR TIMES and it was awful.
I won but the emotional trauma was worse than being shot at in the long term.
Happily for me the City insurance paid for my legal expenses.
25 years ago it was over $50 grand!
That would have bankrupted me for life had I needed to pay the bill.
I had TWO legal teams. One to defend the City and one to defend me FROM the city
    lawyer.
Believe me the City would have plead me guilty to escape any chance of paying the plaintiff.
The city would not care one tiny bit if I went to jail on Federal charges of Civil Rights violations.
Thank gawd I got disabled after 22.5 years service with by forth broken back.
Riots do happen so avoid the area if at all possible.

Very interesting jeager & thanks for posting this. I was in security myself, but had a close friend who was in the police service. He was disabled in a police helicopter crash & was badly let down by the police service.
Question: This question has been on my mind for a long time, & I fully realise that if you choose to answer, it will only be your personal opinion. The question is, if there was civil unrest to the point where the public were being unfairly treated by the government & this treatment was obviously wrong, how do you think the police & military would react? Would they be on the side of the people, or would they follow orders? Or, would they abstain from taking part altogether?

In America during the L.A. Rodney King riots, the National Guard was brought in to protect the looters. Same was true after hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. In Democratic Socialist megalopolises of America, you are not considered a decent citizen unless you submit to rape by the rampaging hoards and the minority police (who were a big part of the looting in New Orleans).

After the fiat currencies of this world collapse, strong men and women may be able to restore true civilized society by crushing and removing the uncivilized. This is why preparation is sooooooooooooo critical!!!

Do not forget to be prepared in the way of fire prevention and fire suppression. Your fire department will NOT be there for you unless you have the silver or ammunition with which to pay them. If you are perceived as being rich with precious metals or ammo, the fire department and police will be there to strip you of these, plus your stored food. The latter will mainly happen in urban areas. In Heartland America where Christian values still have some meaning, one will be safer, yet not totally safe. The larger your army and the higher the degree to which you are ready and willing to kill, the more likely you are to keep your family alive.

    That's a GREAT question.
I fear the police and military would obey the gov't.
It's what we are sworn to do and commanders would make sure orders were followed.
I'm sooooooooooooo glad I'm out of that arena.
After being disabled and 9 months in rehab I had an opportunity to attend college, earned
two degrees and did 8 years at G.M.
    Much better money. :>)

police and government employees will only follow orders if they are still being paid, if the economy has gone down the toilet and currency has collapsed, they will go home and look after their families, any human being would.

Over half of the New Orleans police department just didn't show up for work in the immediate aftermath of Katrina. They went to their families and to their homes to protect what they had and survive.

Geezer, I don't recall any rampaging hordes of minority police officers in the aftermath of Katrina. Do you have any sources for this? There were a handful of police officers who committed illegal acts such as a group of three officers who found a dead guy and burned his body in the car they found him in. My understanding was the dead guy tried to loot an occupied police substation and was shot by officers there. Lacking manpower, radios and functioning vehicles the officer didn't pursue the suspect and the suspect later succumbed to his wounds. If I can find the article when I am on a PC I will link it.

Back to the topic at hand. In the event of some kind of major riot, as Jaeger said, avoiding the area is key. Also important would be to stay upwind of the event. Any sizeable riot is likely to eventually lead to the deployment of chemical munitions (namely CS, CN and OC). Granted most of these chemicals will dissipate fairly quickly, being downwind within a few blocks of the deployment won't be pleasent.

Avoid anyone covering their face with a black mask. Generally speaking, it's safe to assume anyone with a black mask and/or air filter with goggles showing up for a riot is an anarchist. Their sole goals at these events (short term) are to force a confrontation with the police and destroy property. Law enforcement WILL seek them out and target them as the best candidates for arrest. Don't be near them; they also tend to draw fire from officers with less lethal munitions.

Most states have a law that prohibits you from being armed at a protest, riot, etc. Know if your state is one of these and conduct your business accordingly.

Being grey is very important. If a protestor sees you, you want their eyes to just roll over you. Ditto with law enforcement. Chances are they will both be too occupied to care, but the degenerate members of society are very much aware that the rule of law is breaking down and they can operate with relative impunity for at least a short while.

    Any other suggestions?

Recall the race riots in the U.S. ?
"One rioter in Harlem was filmed and exclaimed "It's Christmas in Harlem." as he ran off with a new
    looted t-v.
Recall the L.A. riots where the ONLY businesses NOT looted were owned by people that took up
positions on the roofs with rifles.

Ever since I remember, my home country Nepal has been politically unstable. First there was direct rule for the king and the people did notm like it. They demonstrated against the king for years. There there was multi party democracy and the wranglings of political parties. After that there was communist insurgencies. Riots have been integral part oy my country since 25 years. I have lived through and survived numerous riots.

Living riots must be awful and very frightening :-( I thing What I can do if I'm walking in a Road and meet Riot the first thing I would do is to enter in any building closer to where I am close windows and doors and Wait for it to pass, the first thing I would avoid is to get pinnid in it really I use to see that in news Riots are very dengerous and people who are ready to engage in them They don't fear death and I don't differentiate them from terrorists because they kill inocent people on streets too.

The first thing to do in a riot is to move away as far as possible from the center-front where the thick and thin is happening. You should also find a hiding place if its possible. Sometimes you are right in the middle of it and cant get away. Always be aware of your surroundings and keep your eyes open at all times. Keep your head raised back and above the crowd to avoid being suffocated.

I have seen a lot of riots while in the university in the northern part of my country. I have come to the conclusion that the wisest thing to do in such a situation is to stay away from the scene. This is because a lot of people can use the situation to settle scores with enemies or perceived enemies.

Oh, by the way, the riots continue in Portland, Oregon. The national MSM seems not cover the news when it does not fit with their collectivist agenda.

    https://news.immitate.com/2020/12/0...protesters-smash-windows-downtown-oregonlive/

I've been looking for videos of conservatives losing glandular control, burning/looting all that, but so far have not been able to find anything. Their are videos of ballots being forged for the Social Democrats, yet those silly Republicans can't get up and pitch a decent riot -- what's wrong with them?! They're just a bunch of lazy people.

At least there was a peaceful Thanksgiving!

Defund the police and all of this will go away.

This is just a heads-up for our urban brethren.

The Supreme Court ruling on abortion being a states issue and not a federal issue is likely to set off rioting.

Most of us preppers do not live near urban areas where the rioting will occur. However, some preppers due to their employment must live near or proximal to urban areas. I myself once had a job that required me to commute into a city location that was immediately adjacent to a violent area of that city. I had two routes in and out of that city. During a one-year's time-span people were murdered right on or on streets-next-to those routes. Zombie drug addicts walked the streets. I was NEVER there after sunset -- way too dangerous. I made sure I lived in a rural county adjacent which did cost me serious gasoline money; however, I didn't want any part of those 3rd-world areas. Inner city gangs made predation runs into the suburban areas adjacent to the city. Home invasion rapes and murders were in the news.

So, to those preppers who must endure such environs, you have my prayers. Please be on alert. Certainly no need to panic -- you know what I mean. Make sure your friends and family stay home for the next few days. How long this latest rioting excuse situation will last is anybody's guess. As you are aware (likely far more knowledgeable than I), the police will not be there for your protection. They will be getting pelted with rocks, explosive fireworks, and Molotov cocktails where stores will be getting looted and burned.

If the rioting comes your way, run garden hoses into the house in case of arson (put the spray nozzle in a sink because they all leak even if tightly closed), have your fire-extinguishers handy. For your shotguns, have birdshot and buckshot at the ready. You know best if you will need plywood to protect doors and windows. That material has likely already been bought-up by store owners. Lights off in the house. Light-up your perimeter.

Who knows, maybe the violence will not be pronounced. I sure do not know. I'm not psychic, have no crystal ball. But such days are days in which we must be on alert and prepared for whatever insanity flares up. When are there not trouble-makers all around?! They'll surely be out tonight doing their best to have their violent tantrums. The looters will be behind the ones breaking windows and setting fires. Antifa and BLM pave the way for the looting.

The 4th of July is coming up, so fireworks stands are already opening. Buy flare-type fireworks (parachute / "hanging" flares) should you need to light-up your perimeter. You want to see the aggressors. You do NOT want to be seen in your house. If you need to use your shotguns, do NOT go to doors or windows for your shooting position. That will get YOU shot. This isn't the movies. A shooter takes their position BACK in the room and determines their cone of acquisition to engage the enemy. You never shoot from above a wall, else you become a silhouette. If you must use a wall, then knock a hole in it to provide you your cone/radius of target acquisition. Frame house walls provide little protection/cover. Brick walls are better. Frame house interior positions can be reinforced with sandbags. I seriously doubt that these riots will go full "battlefield", nevertheless it's something one must have in the back of their mind. Strange days!:mad:

Well, there were violent protests last night, but nothing particularly dangerous. I'm surprised. We'll see what happens in the days to come.

The individual states are growing further and further apart.

"Protesters" in Arizona trapped state senators in the state capitol building. There were 8,000 in that crew. I would think twice about protesting in Arizona. The citizens there openly carry. Surround a car in Arizona and you get shot.

I'm worried about the safety of our Supreme Court justices. The biden Fed is not providing sufficient protection for these justices. This seems to be intentional. Maybe loyal Americans will show-up to protect the justices. If a S.Court justice of conservative leaning gets assassinated and this socialist regime replaces that individual with a Leftist, then the likelihood of civil war will instantly get a whole lot hotter.

    Day 2

Roe vs. Wade / Constitutional interpretation / "riots"

Still no mass damage as with Black Lives Matter and Antifa aggressions. I hate all these attacks against the police. They are just trying to minimize the damage & protect the unknowing drivers who inadvertently go down the wrong street and encounter protesters.

Roe v Wade protests continue. Some places heating-up ... literally.

    https://ktla.com/news/lapd-arrest-m...r-with-torch-during-abortion-rights-protests/

"A man who allegedly attacked a police officer with a 'makeshift flamethrower' during Friday night’s abortion rights demonstration in downtown Los Angeles has been arrested and is facing possible charges for attempted murder.

"While most demonstrations were peaceful, a sentiment echoed by both organizers and the LAPD, a small group of protesters did clash with police in downtown. Bottles, rocks and fireworks were seen thrown at officers during a later portion of the protest."

(Old Gzr: The officer attacked with the incendiary device was hospitalized, but I've not read of his condition.)
    --------------------------------------
    Black-clad vandals in Portland, Oregon

    https://nypost.com/2022/06/26/abortion-protests-in-portland-turn-violent-after-court-ruling/

"Several banks and coffee shops had their windows broken, a van belonging to Portland Public Schools was spray-painted, and a pregnancy resource center was vandalized, the Portland Police Bureau said in a statement Sunday.

"The crowd of about 100 began its rampage around 10 p.m. near Grant Park in the city’s northeast section and continued on its destructive path until protesters left the area around 10:45 p.m., the police said.

“'If abortions aren’t safe then you aren’t either,' a flier announcing the march said, according to Oregonlive.

"The Mother and Child Education Center was vandalized, as well as a Starbucks and a Bank of America, Oregonlive reported.

"The department said officers were unable to respond because of other incidents happening at the same time."
    ---------------------------------

Dept. of Homeland Security is saying that the protests and the danger of attacks on pro-adoption centers "could occur for weeks".

    https://ussanews.com/2022/06/26/breaking-homeland-security-issues-urgent-warning-to-america-its-bad/

"The Department of Homeland Security is warning about an increase in 'domestic violent extremist activity' in response to the US Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v Wade. The warning said far-left extremists would 'intensify violence against a wide range of targets.'

"The department made the remarks in a June 24 memo, the same day the court turned abortion regulation to state legislatures.

"The memo said federal and state government officials, including judges, and facilities are most at risk for violence.

"Already there was a recent assassination attempt on Justice Brett Kavanaugh by a radical 26 year old leftist. On June 8, Nicholas John Roske was arrested outside the Justice’s Maryland home with a gun, a knife, burglary tools, and alleged intent to kill the judge due to his stance on abortion.

"The memo also named the radical pro abortion group Jane’s Revenge which has been terrorizing pro life centers since May.

“'In late May, a network of loosely affiliated suspected violent extremists, known as ‘Jane’s Revenge’ – which has been linked to arson attacks against the buildings of ideological opponents – shared a post encouraging a ‘night of rage.’

"Jane’s Revenge posted a communique in May claiming responsibility for the firebombing of a pro-life organization in Madison, Wisconsin. ...

"After a leak last month foreshadowed the Roe v Wade reversal, the group attacked dozens of centers in Buffalo, New York, Vancouver, Washington, Madison, Wisconsin, and Asheville, North Carolina, and many more cities across America.

“'We expect violence could occur for weeks,' the memo said.

Oh, forgot to mention that highways around cities are being blocked by protesters. If you absolutely must go into these areas, you need to check on traffic delays first. Me, I always hit traffic information sites before traveling interstate highways and when heading into cities. I have these sites bookmarked and use them weekly. Usually your own state will have its own traffic condition website. Some states post camera feeds along major routes. Some even give you weather and pavement condition data.
