Does anyone think sea levels are rising?

No Sea levels are not rising but there are localised subsidence issues in various places

If it was actual sea level rises it would be universal around the world as all the seas are connected!
But as it is only in a few localised places it is land subsidence!
I live in a very stable area and no sea level changes in the last 40 years.

 

The sea level is slowly rising every year. This is due to land ice melting and thus adding to the water level. Global warming means warmer water and warmer water expands thus creating more volume as well. It is a very tough subject though. Researchers agree that it is rising, it is measurable after all. But they don't exactly agree on what will happen in the future. Models for the year 2100 for example show a rise of just a few inches up to 6-7 feet and everything in between.

I currently live under the sea level near a major river. When you stand on the dyke with high tide you can see the water level being above the land behind you. It's frightening but you learn to live with it. We have never been in actual danger for once in over 50 years. But this is because the government has really good water control systems in place. Dykes, dams, dunes, overflow areas and so forth. If you aren't in a place where the (local) government is in control, there is nothing you can do. Water is devastating so I would advise to move to higher ground rather than to prepare.

 

Ocean lives are rising. On May 9 five Solomon's Islands were swallowed by the Pacific ocean. And in lots of other places, rising sea levels are forcing people to relocate and in the UK a Welsh village sued the government for the rising sea level

All proof that climate change is causing sea levels to rise.

 

Honestly, I think that the Earth is warming up slowly. I don't think that this is due to global warming but due to the face that the Earth goes through warming and cooling cycles. I think that this warming is causing the ocean is rise slowly. I expect that within the next couple years the polar caps will shift and we will experience a freeze. I think that the ocean levels will go back to how they were millions of years ago.

 

Yes is my answer. One of my husband's colleague hails from Pangasinan, it is a province with a long coastline. The colleague's brother has a beach house in their town. The house was a big one that is good for vacationing families and relatives. But in the last 10 years, they noticed that the sea is "eating" the beach front. The owner of the house said that the sea used to be 50 meters away but not it is almost reaching the vacation house. And what can they do when the sea level is rising?

Unfortunately, the house is made of concrete and there is no way it can be moved. Besides, there is no more available land since there are houses in that portion already. So that is a neat lesson to those who plan to buy a beachfront vacation house. Don't be comfortable that the sea water will remain in that level.

 

Coastal erosion is not sea level change!
and what you described is coastal erosion! storms do most of it!

I have been watching sea levels since the early seventies! and there has been no descernable change in levels!
I used to use this rock on a cliff as my tide marker, as high as the barnicles and tide usually went!
Not there anymore to physically check but a few yoars the council put 24/7 cameras in and connected them to the net!
I can see that rock anytime I want to now (thanks council) from my computer screen!
Sea levels have gone no where!
Some pacific islands atop seamounts are sinking due to natural subsidence but the actual sea level has gone no where in the last fourty years!

All that goes to show that sea levels are indeed rising and that it is a serious threat that many cities should start dealing with.



As you can see on this world map that shows megacities (cities with more than 10 million inhabitants), the majority of them are located on a seashore. This means all of them will be affected by even a slight sea level rise and a lot has to be changed in their infrastructure.

 

In light of the evidence I don't think anyone could say that sea levels aren't rising. We've known about this for a long time now, scientists have been warning us about it for years. We are seeing already the effects of global warming so our governments need to take more urgent action.

 

I have seen evidence that sea levels are rising. In my country, I have seen where there were beaches have been inundated by the sea and the shoreline has been constantly receding. I am thinking that the government should find some ways or means to stop this problem because it's a really worrying situation.

 

The sad part is they won't do anything as there are people in the world that will not stop polluting the air as it will dampen the world wide economy. Manufacturing divisions will have to cease operations to let the earth heal itself. That leads to less profits and the powers that be will not let that happen.

A simple solution would be for everyone to start being proactive and cut their air polluting ways in portions. Take walk instead if driving down the street in your car, car pooling, mass transit, and stopping using aerosols.

Everyone is looking at our governments to take the big step, but that will take years and lots of denial. We all can do our part right now if the decide to do so.

There is evidence of land uplift

There is NO evidence of sea level rise at this time!
Sea levels have gone nowhere in the last millennia or two.
And if in the future they do change it will be from a huge natural event not some puny bipods doing!

I know as global warming has reached religious levels and so belief and faith in the talking heads is all that's needed to make it real!

By past talking head predictions many from before most here were even born!
We should be in the second decade of this century living in a world where food is strictly rationed same as water, snow is restricted to the polar regions
And most of the world is in permanent drought! with all jungle and wet forests a thing of the past and an average of 5degree C up on current temps!

Well people I have been waiting for this global warming to eventuate for nearly fifty years, still waiting!
I am no longer interested in predictions just proper hard evidence and everything produced is corrupted so far!

I know none will believe me and I don't really care, I have done my part and offered the information, take it or not!
My long term preps are for a return to Iceage conditions in mind!

Then if it is rising over there why not here! all the oceans are connected you know! if sea level rises in one place it would rise in all places!

ps Hawaii is a volcanic island, and all volcanic islands decay and subside! over time same as most island chains in the pacific!
That is not true evidence, island subsidence is not a sea level rise.

I agree with this. The earth has gone through numerous warming and cooling cycles. Sea levels are rising in certain areas but it's not currently an earth-wide phenomenon. It's interesting to see what effect the polar caps melting will have on seas, lakes, and rivers in directly related areas.

When the temperature rises, the rate at which ice melts increases. Think of all the mountains with ice tops. Most rivers begin from mountain tops then end up feeding the seas. Fumes from fuels have resulted to climate change hence the rise in global temperature. If we can cut the use of fossil fuels then we can avoid climate change. We are also supposed to plant a lot of trees since they provide our environment with oxygen.

 

Of course sea levels are rising, but you won't hear about that in the news, they keep information like that from the public in order to prevent panic, and it's not serious enough in some countries to really worry about it because the levels are so low. You just have to do your own research. When the problem gets serious enough, it will be a real discussion in the news, the governments will actually make attempts to do something about it.

For now, it's unlikely that they will prepare to do things like build giant walls, simply because it's to expensive, and anyways, water carries a lot of power, there is nothing that we could build to really hold back rising sea levels. Water owns Earth, we just have to move out of the way, or deal with the natural disasters.

 

I'm not close enough to the coast to personally experience anything, but I think it's possible. There's been a lot more flooding in some areas in recent years, than there was before. I think that climate change is a real and scary threat, but I'm not 100% certain. I haven't really seen any effects of sea levels rising personally, so it's hard to say.

 

I do think sea levels are rising, but only at a minimal amount. Do I forsee cities being underwater in the future? No, i do not. That is alarmist thinking.

 

Well did you know that if all the ice on the planet melted, sea levels would rise 200 feet? There would be little land on earth that is habitable. It's very much possible, don't tell me you're like Donald Trump. He thinks global warming is not a real problem. We have recorded records from all over the international community about rising sea levels consistently over the years.

A big government like America is not going to let something like that out to the public in order to prevent chaos on a national level, believe me, they know. They are the ones who analyze big data like that.

 

Living on an island like I do (albeit a fairly big one, the UK) you would have thought tat I would be aware and we would have been told if the sea levels are rising or not, but as far as I'm aware there isn't any stone cold facts or statistics released to the public to say if it is or not. Global warming IS a problem and thinking about it logically, if the earth warms up, the ice will melt and so the sea levels will rise, it stands to reason. If we're going to see any facts to prove that's what's happening though, is highly doubtful.

Sea levels rise and fall constantly. You have the tidal changes. You have the seasonal changes and you have the slow changes that have to do with climate changes. None of this is man caused because it has been happening since long before there was such a creature as man. Over and over in my life I've seen so called scientists take short term swings and use them to predict long term disasters. That is because there is BIG money in predicting disaster. When the scientists aren't doing it the preachers and prophets are. It is all about money!

At one time there was a huge sea that divided North America and then there were times when Great Britain was NOT an island and the Bahamas were basically like another continent. There was a time when New York City was under a mile of ice and a time when Antarctica was green and almost tropical with dinosaurs on it.

If the water levels rise at 1/8" of an inch a year and someone drowns...well there is such a thing as too stupid to live. There will be places that will benefit from warmer wetter weather and other places that won't. This has been true FOREVER!! Entire civilizations have fallen because they failed to adapt...and better civilizations arose. If some cities get wet it is because they were just too stupid to either move or adapt.

In my life I've heard that we were going to freeze to death in an upcoming ice age, that we are all going to drown when the great flood comes, been told that we are running out of water , that the USA is going to get hit by more and more and stronger hurricanes, then we followed that up with a record breaking lack of any hurricanes. I remember when we were going to be out of oil by 2000, then 10 years later there was so much that it wasn't worth drilling for and every place that I had worked for in the oil industry went out of business, then they did it again and once again it is hardly worth drilling for. Let me tell you, I have a pet rock that is more accurate at predicting the weather than the weather people. They can't tell me whether it is going to rain tomorrow but think they know what it is going to do in 100 years???!!!... That rock predicts oil prices too and is never wrong.

Life is about change. I've lived through floods, droughts, winters where I was swimming in January and seen snow on Galveston Island. Guess what. NONE of this indicated the end of the world as we know it. I remember a "hole" in the ozone layer that cost us trillions of dollars. It didn't exist in the terms of being any danger because it was a short term occurrence. Once again, there IS BIG MONEY in scaring the crud out of people as long as we let them do it and get away with it.

 

I've been told by my lecturer once, my city were to sunk in around 10-15 years from then for the rising of sea levels, if local authorities doing nothing in order to prevent it happen. I was quite skeptical about that until 3 years later, local authorities was extensively digging to deepens and widen the rivers and drains across the city, many mangrove trees being maintained and set up prevention acts to keep them away from being cut down. It was in large scale as I wonder if that old guy said the truth. gulp.

 

Even the most extreme predictions only predict an ocean rise in INCHES not FEET over the next 10 to 15 years. The only place in the US that might have a really serious problem is in New Orleans. Those idiots are already 12 FEET below sea level in places and as we saw in Katrina they don't have enough sense to get out when a storm comes so I doubt that even a slow tide or rise will chase them out. Ah well that is evolution in action. The land in New Orleans is sinking so whether or not the oceans rise it is just a matter of time before they get seriously wet. There are other ocean side cities with much the same problems. Parts of NYC and several of the California megalopolises have land that was basically reclaimed from the ocean by building on old garbage dumps and land fill. When they can predict what the weather is going to do tomorrow I might start worrying. Right now I look at most of this like the Preachers that are always predicting the end. If people didn't give them money they would mostly shut it up. I'm old enough to remember when they were telling us that an Ice Age was coming, we were all going to die because of a hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica, Jimmy Carter told us that by the year 2000 there would be no oil left. All lies and all bad science where they started with the answer and then worked backwards to prove the predetermined fact.

 

Sea levels would rise if anything by the expansion we humans do. I don't subscribe to that global warming hogwash.

 

The mistake that people make is to assume that the surface of our planet is solid, immutable. It is not, the continents are constantly moving in relation to each other. They rotate and they tilt on their tectonic plates. The surfaces erode or accumulate silt. Mountains rise and fall...all in geological time.
This makes it extremely complicated to find an accurate datum from which to measure the mean average sea level as everything is in constant (but very slow) motion relative to everything else.
(It's like trying to find the highest point on a spinning plate as it wobbles, while you're standing on the plate)
On the whole I'm convinced that the polar ice caps and glaciers are melting by satellite images from over the last 40 years.

In some parts I guess there is a sea level rising especially those with icebergs as a form of climate change reported. On the contrary, I heard on news in my country that after an earthquake hit one of our provinces, the sea level went down meaning the shoreline was farther now as it used to be.

 

Sure, the global sea levels are rising. Meaning more and more ice is melting in the north and south. All we need to do is to give way! I would suggest those in the coastal region to refrain from settling very close to the coastal strip.

But who cares? People are settling on the edge. Exposing themselves to hazards related to increased water levels. Contrary to popular belief, global warming is real and not hogwash as initially stated hereabove.

 

This is really dangerous and could be fatal any time soon due to the climate changing dramatically. I saw not long ago a video where it's showing glaciers and huge chunks of ice falling and melting into the ocean. It also say that if it continues, it could potentially increase the sea level to up to 10 feet. And if the whole ice melts, it could reach up to 200ft of sea level.
