What in the hell are you all here for? Just take a look down the list of posts made on this forum alone, everything from "what happens if the earth runs out of oxygen" to "the best place to hold up when the SHTF is in a supermarket". REALLY? Come on people! I have posted what I thought was a reasonable scenario & got very few comments, I have asked what you carry in your shtf bug out pack & the replies were woeful! I asked what people wanted & only one person replied saying they wanted more "How To Skills posts" so I did & again, nothing! I am beginning to think that I am on facebook, & I left facebook!!! I don't want to hear how you were scared of a drunk pedal taxi driver & I am not interested in herbal remedies unless the writer can actually state his or her qualifications in that field. Does all this sound like I am being too harsh? I don't know what most of you new members are turning this forum into, but it sure as death doesn't have anything to do with SURVIVAL!

LOL I only post when I get a chance to set down. I don't get most of the threads started either. I try to post things I believe are relevant and can possibly be helpful to someone. I left another forum that was supposed to be about survival because it seemed over run with liberals and they were pushing their agenda. Didn't care about survival situations, the end of the world, riots or anything but social stuff.

I feel I am actually pretty prepared for a sudden situation. I can only do so much. I also feel I recognize the long term slow grind down that is likely to happen.

As far as contributing to some of your posts. Because of my infrequent nature of my being online. I miss many things. I will actually search for some of your posts now and attempt to contribute in a positive way.

To your point though. I just read where a person said they were not a survivalist or a prepper. They just enjoy reading .....

I more consider myself a prepper. But making sure I don't run out of toilet paper by being prepared with more on hand makes me a prepper. LOL

If I didn't know better, I'd say that this site is being hit with a whole lot of "new users" and raw B.S. to snuff the site, to do overt harm. It is as if someone is doing the LSD studies on combat soldiers again. All this stupid non-prepping, "how do you feel about ...", crap is noise.

OK, here is the deal people, bad times are coming and if you can't see that, you have never picked up a history book or you are intellectually challenged. Sometimes, the world's conditions go smoothly; well that's getting ready to be nuked -- maybe literally. We have work to do and playing games is called distraction. Unfortunately, most governments want their people to be disarmed sheep. One can rule over disarmed sheep.

Me, I do NOT like being herded.

If this sh##-storm of lollipops and turbo-flakiness continues, the survival site will not continue as a survival site. If this site is being attacked, then there must be developed a walled-off area where REAL topics can be discussed. And let me say that dirty government must be opposed. I'm hoping that Western world economies will take it in the teeth so that government funding will be gutted. Bureaucrats should be losing their jobs by the hundreds of thousands. Let them get real jobs or just go disappear into the satanic darkness from whence they came.

Grow up. Hell is coming. You had better be getting ready with MASSIVE levels of self-sufficiency, else you and yours will be lost in the chaos. Plus, you'd better be ready to protect what you have set back, or aggressive lower-order "humans" are going to take what you and your family need to survive. Redistribution = rape and death. Keep this in mind when responding or starting a thread.

The forum seems to have been inundated with a load of facebook users who don't know the first thing about survival.
the best thing is to ignore them and we moderators will delete them where appropriate.

Well don't look at me guys, I try to keep it real and relevant to survival or prepping.
I'm less concerned about it being government noise but I had considered the possibility that it might be one or more rogue preppers using multiple aliases and trying to assemble data on possible targets and threats post SHTF. (No offence intended; I did warn you I am a little paranoid)

I don't believe in rogue preppers but ever since I started on line 8 years ago-yes I know I'm a late starter!-I have come across all manner of trolls and nasty people and I think that is what we are dealing with, post SHTF these people wont get very far and will probably die in their homes by the hundreds if not thousands, they aren't preppers and don't have a clue about survival they are just bad people.

I did come across someone who reckoned he was going to WALK from London to the south west with 100 Facebook "friends" post SHTF, apart from the fact I don't think anyone would get out of London alive, the whole idea is so laughable.

I am one of the new people here, and I admit that I do not know most of the important skills that will keep a person alive once we have a cataclysmic disaster like the Yellowstone caldera erupting, or even through a government meltdown and takeover. However, I also know that realistically, my age and health are against me being able to survive even if I knew what to do and was already prepared.
So, instead, I am focusing on the preparedness that I think I CAN survive, which is some kind of a short-tern disaster, like a tornado, ice storm, or even an earthquake. I think that I can prepare enough to live without electricity for a while, and I am working on getting my body in the best level of fitness that I am able to achieve; so that when the time comes, I can do what needs to be done.
My husband is in better shape than I am physically; but he is actually not concerned that a SHTF situation is ever going to happen, so preparedness to him is having plenty of toilet paper and an extra bag of beans and one of rice.

It's easy enough to fill an extra bit of space in the back of the cupboards with some extra dried foods and tinned goods, I don't know what situation you're in with your water supply but either stored water or filtration equipment would be a good idea. Power cuts are a big concern for a lot of people in developed countries but what you'll really need is heat and the ability to cook, I answered this need with a wood burning range stove in addition to my ordinary cooking facilities but bottled gas would serve just as well in the short term.
Tornado shelters, good strong doors with locks and internal bolts, anti sparge film on window panes, carbon monoxide sensors, fire escapes, extinguishers and smoke alarms...the list of preps for everyday hazards can go on forever but you can do it one item at a time and barely notice the expense.

We only rent our house, which has also been a problem with being prepped. All of the things that you are mentioning , @Ystranc make a lot of sense and are exactly what should be done; but things like adding a tornado shelter or even a wood stove just can't be done when you are only renting.
When I lived in the country in Idaho, I was much better prepared, although still not a true survivalist; but at least I could manage without power and water. I lived there for two years and had to haul water, and for the first year, I didn't have electricity either. I know that I am not physically able to do all of the things that were necessary back then; but every little bit that we can do gives us a better chance of making it through some kind of short-term disaster.
We have been adding solar lights outside, and I have solar chargers for the phone and iPad; but of course, if the cell towers are down (like they were when the tornado hit here a few years back) then having everything charged up is not going to be much help.

Sadly sites like this are targets for trolls.
Why anyone would waist time and energy disrupting a site like this is beyond me.
    Probably a demonstration of mental/emotional
    disorders.
Some trolls are sexually frustrated teens I think.
    Or worse.
I don't recall the rude troll character I reported
to the moderators but I haven't read anything from her/him/it in a day or two.

Really I do believe these troll characters
    have mental issues.
Perhaps they would be much better off in a cave
playing with their member and leaving sincere
    people alone.

Some of the new people (me among them) live in radically different areas geographically than most of the authors. The survival needs of someone in the Scottish highlands are going to vary wildly from someone in the Florida Everglades, for example. Survival tips and tricks that work in the Carpathian mountains won't work in the Bahamas in all likelihood.

Where I live, there are major population centers in every cardinal direction, only 25 minutes by vehicle. I can't isolate myself from people the way someone who lives in Montana could. My employable skill set won't allow me to disappear into the backwoods of Appalachia so I have to make due with what I have here. My immediate survival needs are much more urban escape and evasion based, along with bugging in. So that's what I'm coming here for. Information about bugging out and setting up a base camp in a mountain top is WAY down my priority list.

    Be you in law enforcement?
    How long?
    I'm retired l.e.o.
Lt. Commander SWAT, did 10 years as a detective, among many other things.
    Disabled with 4th broken back.

Been to the Ohio Academy 9 times, mostly

Loved it. I could shoot all I wanted and it cost
    me nothing.
That's where I met and formed a friendship with Massad Ayoob. Met and was trained in
    sniper techniques by Carlos Hathcock.

Yes, and this phenomenon came on suspiciously sudden. Call me paranoid, but this stinks of attack. We know that people in government whose lives depend on the dependency of the sheeple do NOT want citizens to be self-sufficient -- indeed, they wish them to be serfs. Why is the reaction of government to every terrorist act a call for more gun control, more centralized power?! I'm beginning to start listening to those I once considered crazy for saying that terrorist events are condoned by government, maybe even governmental in origin. "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absulutely."

On this site, one must now sieve through threads and responses to find actual survival/prepping information.

Control freaks get freaked out when they feel that they are losing control. Government bureaucrats are as concentrated a lot of control freaks as one will find. If we do or say anything that could promote citizens becoming independent of Big Brother, then poof!, I'm the "enemy", you're the "enemy".

Add to this the reality that there are those in government who know some seriously scary truths about the world's sit-rep. As one example: Western banks are dead meat. There are now few, if any, mechanisms by which a descent into an irreversible economic Depression can be prevented. Notice how the euro was getting ready to tank, when the flood of Arabic and North African refuges increased and this took the place of the euro's collapse as story #1 in the news media. As to the euro, "everything is OK!" and if you say otherwise, you are a nut and should get a 72 hour psych eval.

Back to this site's inundation with pablum: Me, I take this sudden onset of non-survivalism as a green tracer snapping overhead.

Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in. I started this forum wanting to learn more about survivalism and I have read most of the stuff here. I purchased 166 acres of land I have really been enjoying doing some great outdoors stuff and trying out some different things I have learned from our community. I don't post often because I don't have any relevant knowledge to contribute, yet. In the beginning, there were only a few regulars here, and now the traffic has really boomed. It's not slowing down either, we will probably have 10 times as many daily visitors by this time next year. Yes, we have a Facebook page too and we have 17k followers there. We post stuff all the time and it sends us a surge of traffic. There is nothing I can do to control quality other than try to stop spammers from registering. You will end up with trolls, disgruntled ex-forum members, people from other forums, idiots, and people with strong conflicting opinions about what survival means.

I agree with what Lonewolf said earlier to just kick the ones that are way off and ignore the others. We need to let some of the newbies make posts and ask questions, the best thing to do is add our best information to the thread and move on. You also can't make anyone believe that you are right and someone else is wrong. One thing I noticed about this community is that on a good majority of posts two expert preppers share very different opinions and would argue all day that each other is wrong. I'm not talking about the idiots that post stupid stuff like suddenly oxygen is gone. That is just stupid in my opinion. I didn't delete it because the community tried to find some relevance to it and made a few good points.

I have personally spent over $10k building the backend of this forum, marketing to search engines, on security, etc. There will be ads on here, there will be things to help bring in more people such as Social media integration, there will be forum features like credits and stuff, etc. I also didn't spend my time and money here for health. I could have just read a preppers book if all I wanted was to learn. I would like to stop throwing money at this and at least break even. The dumbasses on here are the ones clicking the ads and paying the bills btw. We can't just boot the entire forum or it will go up in flames.

This forum is here to be an information source worthy of people's time. Everyone doesn't share the views on survival. To some people surviving is living in the city day to day, others in the wild, and some live in survival fantasy land waiting for zombies. Those are all ok discuss. They have their places and the forum is somewhat organized.

I'm sorry if someone reading this doesn't agree with the direction of the forum. I hope everyone here understands but if you don't just go somewhere else.

Once in a while a troll or even just an impolite
person will slip through on any forum open
    to the internet public.
After all we are all pretty much anonymous.
Anonymity can be used as a screen or garbage
can to hide behind by the emotionally/mentally disturbed and those with an emotional age

A frugal site had that issue years ago. Got hit by liberals and animal lovers and such. I didn't have the right type email address and was purged. My brother had the right type and stayed. I joined another different forum just a few months ago. Survival and prepper oriented. A lot of people on it. I started trying to friend local people. I see one who is about 4 miles from me. I send friend request. I get a response about 2 pages long about how she is a liberal and doesn't tolerate this and that. So I responded I would pass as it was clear that she had prejudices from the fact that she sent me this long rant. I didn't care if she was a lib conservative or whatever as long as she was like minded in prepping. I got a warning about a post from the day before where I used special characters as part of a word that was on peoples shirts at a post officer involved shooting riot. I did not use the bad word. I used special characters. I asked the moderator what was up with that. No response. When I told her no thanks. I expected something like that to happen. I just left the forum. Sent a message to the moderator no thanks. So he gave me a 6 month ban.

I look at survival and prepping and see a lot of different ideas. A lot of possible situations. I am here as much to learn as to hear information about whats going on in the world. I don't care for the BS but do believe there is a lot out there. I hope this site doesn't get over run with liberals.

Not knew, past tense, but know.
I have his home phone number in Deerfield Maine.
    We attended handgun competition matches
    together.
I scored higher than he did.:D
We've dined together. He likes Heineken beer and stake medium rare.
We put on three defensive shooting seminars
    together.
Mass is born in the U.S.A. of Syrian parents and not a Muslim.
    A genuine, fine, friendly, person.
He's supports police, testifies for police in
    shooting situations.
I also trained with the Smith and Wesson Academy.

    https://www.smith-wesson.com/safety/academy-training

I would have to dig out my paperwork to tally up all the firearms schools, and investigative training I've had.
    I'm not lazy or stupid.
Probably I should write of my experiences and have events published.
Mass said he'd give me a recommendation with Peterson publishing.
Whew, do I ever have real stories from my police experiences.
Then there was the time I worked for Chrysler at the Twinsburg stamping plant when the nut job shot up the place killing 13, wounding many more.
Yeah, I've got stories all right.

I remove spam threads from the forum on a daily basis, I also delete dumb threads like the "oxygen" one.
all threads should have a link to survival even the off topic ones in the hangout, this is after all a survival forum, if you want to talk about where you went on your holidays or what you have for tea, reserve it for Facebook.

:) The up side of some of the mindless ramblings is being able to get a laugh for the day.

Have you thought about making a new thread and call it the laugh track. Move the garbage there? I would likely read it daily and laugh my bottom off.

It would be amusing in more ways than one. I would not be surprised to see some of my posts end up there.

Keith, I noted that this is called GENERAL questions and answers and it in the GENERAL discussion forum and not limited as a survival only thread. I get that you have no interest in getting to know any of us. To me a part of survival has to do with learning to f=get along with REAL people. If you don't like this thread Keith why the hell do you read it? Personally I have left several forums because I got bored with the people there. Honestly this board has a great amount of information available and if the owner took your attitude he would probably just close the board to new posts.

I would say that at this point it is hard nearly to the point of impossibility to make a comment that isn't covered by you or somebody somewhere on the board. Ragging on people about this is what kills a lot of forums. New people come in and either make posts or comments or ask questions and someone jumps all over them. They leave and most don't come back. I ran head onto this when I first came here myself and left for a long time. I came back a long time later and gave it another try and it worked better. Most people after someone jumps them are GONE. I have pretty thick skin.

Over and over you make posts griping about NEW people. When the NEW people leave and stop coming this place will DIE unless the owner has the money to just leave it here as a resource place. Everyone doesn't have your skill set. You have been a great source but lordy dude. Not everyone is into the mountain man way and new people are going to ask a lot of ignorant questions. It makes me think of having kids. They annoy the heck out of you at times and ask endless dumb question but that is just part of the price that you pay if you want to have a family.

Like you I am older and have been into this sort of thing longer than a lot if the people on this board have been alive. I have a lot to share and though I went down a different road than you we both have ended up in a similar place. We are totally comfortable in the woods and have no fear or doubt that we can easily survive there.

You need to chill in my opinion. You still have a lot to give but being mean to new people isn't good for the board.

To the owner, any time that you want me gone all you have to do is tell me. I like your board and think that it is the best survival based board online at this time. I have owned and moderated on a lot of boards over the years and understand that sometimes if you aren't in the click your opinions are not always well accepted. I truly don't mean to be a problem but Keith and his griping about the "NEW" people has thumped on my last nerve.

I am a moderator Tex, it is my job to read all posts. I am sorry if my post offended you, but we are all trying to improve on this forum's content, & that is not going to happen if we let people post stupid stuff all the time, I don't care which board it is on. Fine if someone really does not know something, we all agree that there is no such thing as a stupid question, but I think we have to draw the line when it looks like we are being spammed! I do NOT apologise for my post, I think it needed to be said Tex.

No problems. I think you generally do an outstanding job and this board benefits greatly from your and Lone Wolfs guidance. LOL, I don't even agree with myself all the time.

Keith, what i would love to find are people who are like-minded, and compatible morally, who lived close enough to get together for small/or/large group survival/self sustainable conversations, training classes, etc.

Anyone in the UK is welcome to private message me. I'm not sure I'd be able to add much to the information on this forum but it's good to get to know people, whatever their background or politics.

Way too many people living in my area know I am a prepper . This could be a problem when SHTF . I don't want to reach out to meet other preppers and jeopardize myself even farther . I thought about offering flint rocks to fellow forum members but to do so would expose my location too specifically .

As Tex said coffee, that is something that many of us would like, but finding the right people is not easy. As poltiregist points out there are dangers involved in doing this, you can never be sure who you can trust. I suggest you feel your way very carefully & take your time getting to know people. They are not always what they seem. One way may be to join a group that is not directly involved in prepping, & make friends there. See if anyone there is actually interested in survival.

I don't think this is crazy at all Ystranc...and have watched/studied certain posts here on this board with this kind of view....since coming to this board/forum.

I think in certain circumstances ...government/governments are concerned about people with conservative thinking or patterns of comprehension...not "Progressive" as the latest trends like to take for granted.

I think that certain people out here are looking to identify certain markers....or patterns in postings.

This for the purpose of cataloging and identifying threats....individuals....and in particular on an internationally known board like this one.

The problem with this kind of thinking is that it is often against their own people.

The olde ones who taught me ...for example ....stated and taught that the enemy of the Russian/Soviets was their own people....and they used/misused the carefully crafted and cultivated fear of America to keep their people in line...

The enemy of the American Government is their own people.....and they use/misuse the carefully crafted fear of the Russians/Soviets to keep Americans in line and where they need the American People to be. And someone is still doing it today....right now.

This knowledge and thinking pattern, of which the olde ones taught me, is diametrically opposed to what is taught to us in public schools...the Media...and by what passes for leadership today.

And to me governments which will not trust their people to be armed...will never trust their people with a vote.
And the Brexit business is clearing this up for me.
For this is where our phony Deep State government desires to lead or mislead us as Americans.
Someone out here privily and sneakily wants to make us into Englishmen or Continentals....by obvious "Herding."

I think the olde ones were right on the money...in the Bull's-eye....on target.

Like others here...I too am not interested in being "Herded."

I am also not interested in being gas lighted by our media ... nor leadership...nor education nor even a minister and I have caught ministers doing this once you know how to spot it.

I can get gaslighting at work on the clock....lots of drama queens to be found there...at least am getting paid for it.

I am interested in individual experiences and knowledge not ordinarily taught to us or even not desired for us to know....which will enhance our abilities to handle our affairs in a difficult situation.

But no Ystranc....I don't think you are being paranoid...at all.

    Post Sript..

Bought two ten ounce bars of .999 silver last week and put them away.

Also loaded up another 101 rounds of .357 Magnum ammo ...some 50 rounds of it with the 180 grain wide flat nosed gas check cast bullets. The rest with 158 grain Hornday XTP bullets.

Have received another three hundred rounds of these bullets and put them back in storage in like manner to the two 10 troy oz silver bars.

Paid cash for all of this.....
    Oh...god...I'm a subversive......help me Mr. Wizard....Help Meeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Want to put back two large bulk boxes of .22 LR ammo.

Need to buy and put away two bags of new Starline Brass 100 count each...in .357 Magnum.

Believe me...I have been involved with prepper groups, they fizzle out...fade away. BUT, a group of a 65 year old lady and a 7 year old grandson will never survive alone. I have almost all preps known to man, i can do just about anything necessary to survive, but i have no place to shelter if any event happens. There has to be other people to stand guard over everything while someone sleeps, or if someone is injured. I cannot watch a child and protect the stuff and place. I only pray that , well...God knows my prayers.

I agree with you on this , I suspect the feds are monitoring this site , cataloging what members have to say about their gun and amo stash . Some posts whether warranted or not has all the markings of a fed trying to get members to open up .

I don't think it is just the feds....others are interested as well.....because.....well....because they are Ishmaelites at heart.....and international Ishmaelites at that...working with other Ishmaelites.

I am the worlds worst at wandering all over the place. A lot of it is because to me survival has always been about more than living another day. I have already lived longer than I ever expected. Life in the long run is rather pointless unless you have done things that will outlast you. I want to share the one thing that is to me the most important... a bit of knowledge and maybe a little of the wisdom that others have shared with me. In the end for me I am a link in a chain of men that have felt the need to pass on things like honor, the value of knowledge and a little bit of that knowledge itself. For me to be like a hermit would be death itself.

So many here have so much to share. That to me is what this board has to offer. Different people with different views but all with a special focus that is slowly disappearing from the world unless we all share. Some like Kieth and Lone Wolf have a talent for leading and holding us together and they really try to keep us on point. It's hard I know. Some of us have all sorts of skills and fragile bits of knowledge that aren't going to last much longer if we don't find someone to share it with...

Keith: To answer your original question, first, I am hear to learn. I want to see what other like minded people are doing. How they are prepping? What they feel is important. I will read almost every thread, and try to pick up tips, and info; things I may not have thought of; things I may not be doing. Secondly, I am hear to help others. IMHO I am a pretty experienced prepper. I have experienced my fair share of life's hardships. Some things I was prepared for and others I wasn't. I would like to think I have learned along the way, and I have knowledge I can share. I am not shy about posting, but I will only post when I feel I can contribute.

I am probably one of the newest members here, and I do like it. I think all of the moderators do a good job. I appreciate the welcome I received, and I appreciate your reaching out to the membership to get feed back. I hope others will be as candid, so the site can grow, and improve. I hope to be here for a long time.
