Cctv Cameras. Yay Or Nay?

CCTV cameras have been prominent for the past few years even in common areas like the park, your alley, or sometimes even at the bus stop. What do you guys think? Invasion of privacy or a deterrent for potential thieves and pickpockets? I've always leaned on the latter, since the whole "Big Brother" mentality would make people with bad intentions doubt and think twice before doing anything that may lead to them being captured on film. I think I walk easier on streets and alleys with a known security camera since people will less likely try anything there. Thoughts?

 

Cctv camera is very important now as there is lot of things needed to be checked. Many theft, lootings, terrorist activities are happening these days. To get exact information cctv is a must. But some miscreants are applying cctv camera on people privacy to disturb them and want to blackmailing .

 

I agree to some extent, the poorer countries who have opted the use of surveillance cameras have very poor funding. Some have very short storage space so they can only record at most 24 hours of footage. This would be a pain if they would need footage for a crime that happened a few days ago, since as soon as the storage on the computer for the cameras get filled up, it starts to override the previous day's footage. Security cameras in these places are more for a "someone's watching you" sort of vibe and not "whatever happens will get recorded" since cameras depend individually on the funds behind them.

 

I think it can go both ways. Technology, like with pretty much anything else in life can be used for good and for bad deeds. For instance, over here in Brazil, i don't trust the government one tiny bit to keep me safe cameras or no cameras. There have been reports of them working well to identify criminals in larger cities but the bottom line is they just don't have enough, well-trained cops to protect the whole population. So cameras or not we'd still be in a pinch should we need help.

 

Cameras can be useful after the fact. But do little to stop an act in progress. Any halfway intelligent thug can evade known cameras or disguise identity.

 

I have 8 cameras sited on my property, they do not overlook any other property. I receive an emailed still when the cameras are triggered and they send footage to a hard drive and cloud storage. I also have a net of PIRs protecting my boundaries. This is all powered by a 12v system with battery back up.
It's a good deterent if nothing else, I fitted it in order to convince my firearms officer that I had serious security.

 

If your garden or your equipment shed is not easily seen, then you need dogs minimum and cameras if you can afford them. People imagine cities as the hub of crime, but man oh man there is no shortage of sticky fingers out in rural areas.

In America, there was a beef shortage back in 1973. Cattle rustling came back in style. A workmate of mine told me that back then, he had sat in a barn loft where he had a good view of a gate through which some felons had stolen cattle from a local rancher (brazenly backed their truck up and stole more than one calf). The rancher was paying him to watch / open fire should they come back 'round. He had a Marlin lever in .35 Remington. He would have had no qualms about doing what was necessary. He loved ranching and rode the rodeo.

 

CCTV has played important roles in either reducing crime rate or helped in the capture of offenders. I don't see it as an invasion of privacy, rather as a useful gadget that has contributed to the security of lives and properties.

 

I'm generally all about cameras for security/evidence purposes. I'm considering cams for my properties. with power & internet available they are great. if the SHTF & those things disappear, securing your place will take on a whole different aspect well beyond cams

Yup man precisely the problem of relying on technology these days. I have been taught not to depend on it and learn to improvise with what I had. So I guess when it comes to property defense I'd rather invest my money in guns or knives.
