Even as a retired federal officer (Park Ranger) I can't believe ANYONE would believe our government on anything to do with firearms. Citizens are armed, Serfs are not. Remember This!

There's no need for any "studies".

The needed data is already compiled by LEO's, the CDC, and multiple private organizations.

It shows there is no "gun problem".

Some of our younger Forum Members might not be familiar with the Kent State Univ. event.

The picture's statement: " ... innocent students" is partly false. Throwing a projectile at a uniformed National Guardsman in formation during a major disturbance is not about innocence.

After Vietnam I served in a US Army riot control unit. The student protesters - some completely within their rights - also had segments of criminal rioters. Our fraternity had restrictions on releasing info on our participation. USMC did also - but because they mostly worked the D.C. riots, it was well publicized and at out vet meetings a half century later, the Leathernecks will quietly say the entire floor of the jeep had piles of belted ammo for their M60.

Yes, Nixon was POTUS during Kent State but the demonstration and rioting was about the Vietnam War, something clearly identified with the LBJ administration....and LBJ "merely" inherited a mess.

The girl in the picture over the dead body was not a student at Kent State. She was from Opa Lacha, Florida (metro Miami area) and could be called a "hippie". Some pro-war people labeled her a prostitute but I doubt it...not on a college campus in 1970.

About a week after Kent State, there was a similar event at Jackson State Univ, a minority school and it had a similar ending like Kent State. Believe 2 killed at Jackson State.

Not too much is new under the sun. The metro-St Louis riots remind us that work is still pending. Hong Kong illustrates the same stuff.

About 2 years ago, at one of the northern California wild fires, ... forgetting the names ... someone from his house fired a rifle at a responding fire truck. This person was identified and charged with a misdemeanor. I MUST STOP MY EARLY AM RAMBLING NOW.

 

This will become a data collection scheme or point to support the Virginia gun control program in all 50 states by the very timing of it. To aid in turning Americans into Subjects ….not Citizens with rights...but privileges granted by the sovereign.

It will not end with guns but be expanded to where Americans are like British or Continental Subjects......taking second, third or fourth place in their own country while paying for first place to support all the freebees to buy other peoples votes.

This is much bigger than gun control...much much bigger.

P, I was a teenager living in Columbus when Kent happened and well aware that Kennedy got us into Vietnam. I did say I didn't want to discuss the democrats.

I also know that public violence that the American public actually knows about, is a small fraction of what goes on. My choices of profession and stupid habit of volunteering led me to places and actions that I can't forget. That is not really the issue of this thread. Misuse of our tax dollars is the issue at hand.

We have four boxes which we govern our country and some are trying to revoke our use of 2 of them (ballot box and jury box) and ignore the first (soap box). There purpose of this "study" propaganda is to try and remove the 4th box from citizen reach. We have already existed longer than most countries ever do, because of our constitution and how our founding fathers designed our government. If the foundation of the country is destroyed (1st amendment, 2nd Amendment, etc.) the country will also be destroyed.

Participating in a volatile political event is not the best of environments for health or life.

The Kerner Commission report said some of the Guard "panicked" in response to objects thrown at them. The Guard did not have the newer M14 rifle with the box magazine, like seen on national news reports. The had the M1 and had been issued live ammo.

Who could guess the confrontation involved loaded weapons and lethal crowds ?

Between Russia and Communist China (include E.Germany...), at base minimum over 750,000,000 AK-47 type weapons have been manufactured on this planet. These weapons have been distributed to all continents, sub-continents, and most major island-nations -- via arms markets and black markets. The number of 7.62 x 39 ammo out there and right here in America is totally unknowable. Add the handguns, Tokarev and Makarov and all of the mountains of ammunition for them. Think also of all the M-16s that were captured in Vietnam; hundreds of thousands are sitting in warehouses in Central America (Soviet provision to Danny Ortega, et.al.). Mexican drug cartels are now using mounted ma-deuce spreaders of happiness and RPGs.

Given the above little tidbits, the idea of firearm eradication is up there with plans to pay some piper to herd-in the rats infesting NY, NY. And given the original Pied-Piper story, anyone who has the power to help you can also ruin you.
