The old Agenda 21 plan was to remove all private property and move all residents into cities and stack and pack them. Any travel would take place by use of mass transit.
I believe there is a newer updated plan by the UN now.

I live in an area where almost all of the electricity is generated by coal. I see people driving electric cars. Those cars are thus run on coal. If the driver has all sorts of leftist symbols on their car -- indicating that they are a nut-case born-again Secular-Humanist -- in the parking lot I want to say to that person, "Your electric car is run on coal." I don't do this because as a young man I learned to not talk to religious zealots.

Your mentioning of power grid expansion warms my heart. I've been telling people this for decades, literally decades. Think how much explosive gasoline we burn to run cars. One gallon of gasoline if aerosolized has the explosive power of 8 sticks of dynamite. Cars are under 25% efficient in power-usage. Pump an equivalent amount of energy over community power lines to run cars. Think maybe, just maybe, you'd have to add capacity. Uh ..... everything would have to be totally re-engineered.

Back-yard windmills, enormous solar panel arrays in back yards (in regions where there is sufficient sunlight, i.e. not where I live), think this is going to provide enough juice? Yes, and I'm Santa Claus.

I worked industry. Industry uses power to the tune that the greater part of the voting public cannot even begin to fathom. The needed energy is mind-numbing.

I've all my life lived near railroad lines (within a mile, often less than 300 yards, I do now). The mile-long coal trains run on a constant basis, day and night, night and day, year after year, non-stop.

according to the agenda 21 movie that came out yesterday , the plan is still to stack and pack people . Taking away private vehicles regardless of fuel needs to run them slated for being illegal . Taking away private ownership of homes and property on the wish list of agenda 21 advocates . I could go on but if you guys haven't already seen this you need to .---at - www.unsustainable.com put out by matrix entertainment

As you might imagine, I'm no eco-freak. However, we must return to using more mass-transit.

Notice that I used the word, "return". My grandparents' generation used more mass transportation in their era than we do today. I come from Podunkthehell, Nowhere. In Pap's day, they had electric trolleys (coal-fired electricity, yes). If you wanted to cross hundreds of miles, you took a train. In town, you walked, or walked to the trolley. Wanna leave town? You got somebody who had a car to drive you to the train station. Farmers had trucks. People needing to go into town piled into the back of pickups or they hopped a bus for a dime.

In cities, most folk didn't own cars, period.

In 1900, our grandparents and great-grandparents already had this crap worked-out.

Society today is all zoom-zoom-zoom and this is harming the cleanliness of the air and it is KILLING OUR SOULS!

It is my suspicion that the Big Guy in the Sky is going to slow us down ... by any means necessary. Our Karma is below zero = something BIG is going to break. We human ants are going to take a hit.

Electric vehicles will soon be a problem. For starters energy is lost every time it is passed from one form to another. The recycling issue will be a nightmare, since modern car batteries are already a major problem for recycling.

I never have understood why some think it is better to pollute multiple times to make/generate electricity to charge a vehicle, that is inefficient. Than why it is to generate your own energy with a combustion engine.

    Just a thought,

Can't say I'm ever so keen on diesel engines -- lot of work to balance them to prevent motor-mount damage -- yet kerosene is so much easier to distill. High compression = greater efficiency in burning. Gasoline is a bit of a luxury. And I am an American, thus love my Liberty ... will kill for it actually. We are smart & all of this has been worked-out ... by generations past. We have ceased to listen to them -- we blow not the dust off their superior books resting in libraries. We hearken not to their whispers from above that would in a moment enrich our souls.

The "modern" world has grown stupid beyond all imaginings. I long to go speak with my kin gone before and face to face that. I find myself yet a child. I would sit yet again on my grandfather's knee.

Again the elegant train leaps to mind. It burns kerosene to generate electricity to spin the armatures to spin its wheels. This is good, all of this insanity, it pulls innumerable cars of coal or whatever else that is infinite in weight. Big jobs require big thought.

Being an American, I want my personal transportation. Be it diesel, well, OK. The Germans have their point. And I like cartridge rifles. Power in a package. In this I am in some way independent. And I store food to be burnt inside myself.

    Olde Geezer,

Yup...and a lot of that coal winds up here at the end of the C&O railroad..at the end of Newport News....just down from this shipyard....near the Monitor/Merrimac tunnel. You can see mountains of it stacked up awaiting being loaded into ships.

They have huge water systems to keep it wet and reduce the dust and or fire hazard.

It is a lot of coal....a lot of coal!!

Visible from Google Maps or Google Earth.

    Thanks,

"clang, clang, clang went the trolley" 1944

    Good morning Old Geezer,

At one time there were plans (with an actual start) to rehab the US long haul railroads and have interface standards to the major metro light rail pax services for "seamless" pax transport. The pools of money to work this project were drained away.

In practical, national-level terms, the private vehicle is a huge waste of resources. It requires major public subsidiary (National political commentator Mark Steyn [formerly of Canada] called General Motors a welfare agency with a sideline of assembling some vehicles) and public support systems such as roads and subsidized gasoline and subsidized insurance. The original "Big 3" car companies were taken over by the labor unions, mediocre managers, and foreign companies.

The other reason private vehicles waste resources is because the competition uses few of them. The BIG challenge to the US national economy will soon be China's Pearl River Delta economic zone: Hong Kong - Macao - Guangzhu (Canton City, ~ 50 miles north of HK). This economic zone is car free (less for super-rich who pay much for license) and has max use of rail and ferry. The efficiency of the zone's goods and services must be met by the US. Silicone Valley can't do this. Wall Street can't either.

American wisdom has been sold to foreigners.

Eventually, we will come up with a more efficient and powerful way to store electric power. Right now the batteries are so heavy that in the hybrid cars they would actually be more efficient if you dumped the batteries and just ran it on the gasoline engine.

Carbon cycle power is all about the same nowadays whether it is coal, diesel, gasoline, natural gas or wood. The only place where wood is better is in the carbon footprint and that is still a questionable thing. Wood doesn't add to the carbon footprint because the trees pulled the carbon out of the current air, to begin with, and so when burned only return it to the air for a zero balance. Even with that though, understand, the oil used to be the bodies of living things and coal used to be living trees so nothing new is being introduced. It is just that it is from a different time. Natural gas is simply the natural part of any process where carbon-based things break down without the presence of oxygen.

The problem with burning wood is that you are also basically burning up the soil. A plant takes the carbon dioxide from the air and then after separating the carbon from the oxygen takes other things out of the soil to make the wood of its body. Animals including people basically to the reverse of this.

The oxygen and carbon dioxide levels have changed a lot over the millions of years. To some extent carbon, Dioxide is our friend. When there was more oxygen in the air things like the T- Rex was walking around and you had bugs as big as buzzards!!!. They could never live today just like people can't live for long at levels about 27,000 feet.

High CO2 levels will make plants grow faster and bigger. I suspect that if we put our minds to it that we could find ways to easily make adjustments to CO2 levels other than basically cutting our throats. As it stands today IF the Greenies could force a sudden reduction in carbon cycle power worldwide then somehow 5 or 6 billion people are going to have to die! You can't feed 8 billion people with organic farming that only uses electric or animal power. Where do you think fertilizer comes from? Ditto for most insecticides. They all along with most plastics and artificial fibers in the clothes we wear come from chemicals that are extracted from oil.

Climate change is Emergency Herding of people...socially, economically, and politically.

There are efficient ways of moving people and cargo....but Americans of any economic affluence want to come and go at their pace....not at the pace of a bus or train schedule.

Mass transportation ..is used in nations without a viable road system to handle a lot of traffic or heavy cargo...or without large flatlands like Japan...

Japan is mostly mountainous and does not have a lot of flat land on which people can live.

People moved out of the downtowns in America...because of cars becoming available and or gasoline cheap.....and down town would not handle half a million cars in any city.

The automobile is what made the suburbs possible and also the shopping center...

Climate Change is mass human "Herding" on a Global Scale. Climate Change is guilt programming and or guilt conditioning....on a world wide scale.

Thinking people get tired and disgusted of being made guilty and ashamed of the next crisis and or political/social trend to become popular. Don't worry ..someone will manufacture another one down the road to herd us into compliance or shame us...with this new one.

Race...race issues.....sex....sexual orientation......economic affluence.....all guilt and shame based......to get us to comply and change the way we think or do business...

    And now too Climate Change...

All of these are out of the same stable.....someone or some group wishing to control people on a world wide/global scale....."Herding."

    This is division...not unity.....

After awhile you can see and smell them coming..

The other thing Climate Change is ……...is economic and social bondage....in the way it "Herds" people to emote and not think for themselves.

Economic bondage because someone plans to implement a world tax....to finance more Climate Change/Economic and Social Limits on people and nations.. Translate that as lack of freedom and liberty to make ones own economic and social decisions but before one decides anything...Climate Change must be factored in.

Same with Race...Racism...sex and sexual orientation...….you must factor this in before making any of your own individual decisions for yourself and your family.

This political/social/economic guilt trip is why it is nothing but "Herding"….power and liberty ceded/taken away from individuals and given to a governing body.

Thinking people get tired of more and more being "Herded" by such guilt and shaming techniques....you can see them coming after awhile.

It gets predictable....after you have seen it grow and expand over the years.....to a global scale...but it is the same olde game.....power and control by..."Herding" people into group think..

I can tell this because the biggest polluters in the world are hardly on the front pages....

The Front pages go to the most economically affluent nations....

And our media and leadership are in on this scam to keep us "properly Herded."

I have given up trying to discuss climate change on any American forums, its a waste of time, its similar to those people that are Holocaust deniers.

I don't deny the Holocaust took place....

I do doubt the Herding taking place behind it when I know the difference in Geocide and Democide....

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democide

    https://www.bing.com/search?q=genoc...e24f26214&cc=US&setlang=en-US&plvar=0&PC=HCTS

Democide being death by ones own government.

What irks me about the Holocaust is that this gets all the publicity when I know that the Russians killed some 20 plus million of their own people after the 1917 revolution...and the Communist Chinese way way more than 20 million....but hardly a word heard or known about it.

And this in the last 100 plus years...you don't have to go back to ancient times to find this out.

This is not accidental...but deliberate omission...,..,by our own government, media, and public education...

I am very concerned about Globalists taking the seat of our own government and replacing our way of life here in America with Internationalist Herding and eventually democide as took place in history and much of it in the last 100 years.

The scam taking place is huge ...but only the Holocaust gets all the publicity.

For I am certain that given the right circumstances...that someone out here would prefer the destruction of this nation and people if it cannot be brought into the Internationalists control or dominance.

And I also know historically that the name for the group which began the Communist Party back in the 1840s .and it's socialist offshoots is "The Internationale."

This too is hardly taught to most people today via public schooling while trying to play the Blame Game.

Be very careful what you think is a Holocaust.....some of us know differently......it has happened several times in history..not just once. But only one group is discussed or given credit out of the Holocaust when some of us know it happened several times in history …..and with greater volumes of people.

Not all of us are stuck on the Kardashians......

    Good morning Lonewolf,

Earth / oceanographic science is not nationality-based principles.

Some climate change is indeed caused by human activity, eg:

    - fracking

    - concentrated populations draining aquifers (eg Los Angeles area)

    - large highway developments eg the US Interstate system (rainfall drainage patterns changes pre-existing conditions)

Some climate change is NOT caused by human activity, eg:

    - volcanic eruptions

    - tectonic plate shifts

    - rerouted waterways (the Sahara Desert once had a river)

Let's all hold off on absolute judgments until Greta Thurberg speaks before the National Weather Service so we can learn from her insight.

    Good morning Watcherchris,

ALL of the major mass-murders and related are available for public review here in the US.

Not much of the basics is hidden; the political aspects: Yes, but this is not new throughout civilization.

Iris Chang's book "The Rape of Nanking" focuses us to our Oriental heritage. I've seen some exhibits in China.

The Ukraine's ("the breadbasket of Europe") abundance to becoming an area of forced starvation is available for study here.

The Holocaust has a difference. The survivors and descendants FUND and do volunteer work to further the research and learning environment. Note that the Slavery Museum, hoped to be built in Fredericksburg, Virginia, was cancelled. Not enough NFL players and entertainers to support building a building ?

The Holocaust is unique in that 1% of the Weimar population produced 29% of their Noble Laureates.

My life has involved much world travel and a major place for my tourism is cemeteries. With some restrictions re the political matters, there's more material than can be handled by the human mind. A favorite cemetery of mine is at Lushun, next to Port Arthur, China where Russian lost to Japan in the 1904-05 war.

Within the american knowledgeable, the public and private schools and universities are already written off. Same for what's called "media". All this is not new in the annuals of civilization.

    Pragmatist...

I am aware of what happened In the Ukraine...The Holodomor. This too is seldom discussed in history and defaulted to the Holocaust..

I am also aware of what happened in China to the Chinese people.....both with the British Crown and the Japanese....in Korea too...under the Japanese.

I am well aware of what Opium did to the Chinese people....under the British Crown.

Someone here in America is doing with Slavery what they are doing with the Holocaust....same pattern.."Herding" guilty trip and shaming for power and control..votes....a default setting for some to play through unquestioned and unchallenged while herding and limiting others.

    It gets predictable after awhile.

Agree....if one can get the material...there is more than can be handled with the Kardashian educated mind..

What happened to that global warming ? It is extremely cold in a large portion of the U.S. today . As soon as I finish my coffee I am going to have to go outside and break ice again so my survival critters can have water to drink . The roads are sheets of ice so we just sit inside our structures and wait for the thaw but it is nowhere in sight . You can bet though next summer when it gets hot the one world globest crowd will be chanting global warming again . All part of agenda 21 . --- I have a milk goat due to give birth in two days . I have concerns as to whether the new born will be able to survive this cold . I have a goat house for the mother with hay for her to lay in but am not sure if that will suffice . My billy goat has a clump of ice hanging from his tally whacker . I hope that doesn't ruin him as a stud goat .

Climate Change is "Herding" just like C19 is "Herding.

More and more you are going to see programs designed to "Herd" people...put limits on their activities.

Not just am I talking physical herding but mental and spiritual as well.

Someone with this current administration is going to work very hard to put limits on Amendment 1 and 2...

Starting with speech...and religion...this is already happening.

More and more with this group in the White House you are going to see America and Americans become only New York and California...and particularly Hollywood.......everything else is flyover country....

Be warned the Ishmaelites.....herding people and nations into bondage.

    Post Script.....

I just caught this one on Breitbart News today....more herding..

    "Herding by Hitler "

Remember this one because many many times both the phony Repubulicans and Democrats will bring olde Hitler out to Herd you properly... Here today Breitbart news..

9 Professors Who Compared Trump, GOP to Hitler but Weren't Canceled (breitbart.com)

Hitler is supposed to be the very absolute top word in bad guy manufacturing...in morality.

Whenever politicians want to automatically default you onto their cause celeb...they use the word Hitler.

This is supposed to tell you to stop thinking for yourself.....they used Hitler...what more can be said...subject closed...they used HItler.....

You see....you are supposed to automatically cede every point ..they used the absolute top of the bad guys....Hitler.

This happens so often in the news it actually gets Wolfie once you become aware of the technique...it is a type of default "Herding" designed to prevent thinking...only emoting allowed.

Notice while brow beating you with Hitler ...they so seldom bring up Mao.....or Stalin and others who wholesale slaughtered their own people by the millions in "Democide??" Death by their own government.

    Hitler ......Hitler ....Hitler...Hitler....and more Hitler....

After awhile you can see them coming....and I expect to see much more of this technique under this administration as their MO seems to be heavy with the manufacturing of bad guys for more power to the central government and less liberty and freedome to the people.

They will try to make the people into Hitler type bad guys....by design to cover up their power grab..

Every time you turned around someone was tryingt to turn Trump into Hitler.

If not Trump than some middle eastern leader to get you to support further expansion of foreign wars.....after awhile you can see them coming...more good cop/bad cop played on the American People.

    Hitler.....Hitler and more Hitler...

Be Warned the Ishmaelites using and misusing Hitler to herd/put us into more and more bondage....

Yes global warming is real, and i know this to be true.
    1) my wife and i today took a drive along the st Lawrence river, it has been very cold for over three weeks, the river is still open in most places, I remember back in the 60"s we used to have car races on the river, the ice was two feet thick .
    2) when i was young i played hockey outside on a dozen hockey rinks that were open from December to march. Now we have outside hockey rinks mid January to end of February.
Also many local sport centre that relies on outside ice rink now have to install mechanical refrigeration.
    3) when i started my place up north i started a garden, this was zone 2 b so you could not grow cucumbers, tomatoes, and other stuff . Last years my place is now 3 b i grew cucumber , tomatoes , a bumper crop.
    4) this week has been very cold as i said it is -15 c which is equal to 5 f. but i remember back in my day this was warm because very cold to use was - 20 f. It has not been -20 f for the past 20 years or so.
    5) i remember as a child going out to play in -20 f and we wore long johns , two mitts, three head scarfs . two woolen hats . Kids today do not even know what that is because it is not as cold as it used to be .
All of this i saw with my own two eyes . I was born in 1950 and things have changed .

The fact is that WEATHER changes year to year and decade to decade. Climate has to do with changes on a much vaster scale. When idiots in science try to apply extremely short term observations to long term predictions you get stupid results.

The problem is that what we call science now is actually just a pay for view fictional story line. They offer up whatever will get them the most money for grants irregardless of the reality. Global warming means a world wide change NOT local fluctuations. There are places that are having hotter summers and warmer winters and then at the same time there are places that are having insane winters and cooler summers. That would be where I live.

We are actually living in a 500 year period of rather quiet weather. When it snows in New York in June and destroys crops it makes it hard to sell GLOBAL warming. This happened in 1983. Where I live snow is something that happens every 20 to 30 years and now we are preparing for the second of this season and seem to be getting it more like every two years or so. I like warm winters. I don’t have clothes for freezing cold other than my hunting clothes. Most people here that don’t hunt don’t have anything to deal with single digest temperatures.

What we DO seem to be having is neither global warming nor the next ice-age. We just seem to be in a period of rather unsettled WEATHER. Next winter I may go back to swimming in January. I’ve done that more than once. We have had periods like this once or twice a century forever and even if it happened 4 or 5 times it doesn’t mean anything long term is happening.

If the worst thing that happens if we have global warming is that a few bugs migrate north and some birds stop going south for the winter then we should be able to deal with that. If the ploes start to melt all that it will mean is that some cities that were built at or below sea-level on the coast might need to make some changes or move. THAT would not be the end of the world.

All the crap that you hear about global warming is people trying to force other people to give them money or to change the way that they live in a way that the people in power can better control and profit from. IF in a hundred years people have become so weak and mindless that they can’t deal with a 3 to 5 degree change in the weather then maybe it is time for humanity to go extinct and step aside for something else to evolve into our place.

It appears my instinct for the future remains good . I bought propane several days ago and instead of using my prepaid gas the company is holding for me , I paid the higher price and held onto my prepay in case propane in my area skyrocketed . -- Under the present regime I am expecting heating fuel , electricity and gasoline to all go into such high prices as to make them unaffordable . Rebeca got it right , living off the grid . We will descend under our new crazed rulers much faster than Venezuela descended . No doubt though the crew hiding behind the razor wire perimeter of the white house will blame it on anything but themselves . A source told me today the hierarchy of the electrical company's have a meeting scheduled to discuss jacking up the electrical bills .

I love how everyone wants to ignore the magnetic poles (North AND South) are moving still but the equator must be staying where it has "always" been. Planets shifting on it's axis and were coming out of a major ice age, but the planets weather and temps should remain constant. LOL!

In his mighty wisdom, biden saved us from global warming. However, the forces he used sent the planet on the opposite direction into another ice age.

We must however forgive biden, for his intent was good. He and the Left have in the last few weeks slain God, opened our borders to all of Earth's refugees, and returned our nation to the worship of oppressed minorities. The new state religion is being mightily established.

It is now time for all of us greedy preppers to give up all we have put back for hard times and turn this into the Holy Government for redistribution to our betters. The Bishops and Archbishops of Secular Humanism have solved all problems, so there can be no SHTF events. All problems are put to rest and eternal peace reigns our planet.

Reports coming in of oil well heads freezing up , also wind turbines freezing up . It seems logical the electrical grid is compromised , thus the consideration to jack up electricity prices in the hope it will get people to cut back on electrical use . Not only people already have lost electricity due to down power lines now a Venezuela style rolling black outs quite possible .

Lonewolf, it may be getting warmer in Wales but we are freezing our butts off in East Texas and our summers are a lot cooler than they were just a few years ago. 20 years ago temperatures in the 100F/38C or higher temperatures were normal. Last summer we had only a couple of days in the low hundreds. If you base your predictions on local or just short term time periods you are going to get all sorts of false ideas about what the long term prognosis is. We generally seldom have freezing temperatures here. It is below freezing here and is forecast to stay below freezing for several days. This happened 20 years or so ago and it was a mess. All of this is weather. It does not mean that we are going into an ice-age.

The equator has to do with the axis and the rotation of the Earth around that axis. The poles have to do with an interior based magnetic field and have little to nothing to do with the axis, the equator or the rotation of our planet. The poles have actually flipped a bunch of times, North to South and South to North and there were no connected extinction event connected to those flips. Fortunately most navigation now is via global satellite positioning GPS so a wandering pole will cause very little in the way of problems. The ducks and geese may wander a little off if it moves far enough though.

PS: In the South where there is only a little snow every 20 yeas or so the transformers are not sealed as they are in the North. The last time we had weather like this on top of it being cold and frozen pipes every where, we were in the dark for about three days. LOL, I was not as prepared then as I am now and we had to bring the propane BBQ pit into the house for heat. I have several alternative heaters now.

I've always figured that calculating long term weather (Climate) is a fools venture because of all of the variables involved. It's like long range shooting (sniping) on major steroids. I'm going to start a list here of variables and would love any input of other variables, since I know I don't know most, much less all of them.

Here is a little info on our ever changing earths axis. Scientists ID three causes of Earth's spin axis drift – Climate Change: Vital Signs of the Planet (nasa.gov)

    Climate variables:
    Sun
    cloud cover %
    ice cover %
    water cover %
    Earths axis
    vegetation cover
    vegetation types
    solar activity
    ocean currents
    ocean salinity
    atmosphere makeup

    and so many more...

    Yes indeed Dalewick...good point.

I was thinking about the earth's rotation and seasonal effects of the same...on winds...atmospherics and varying altitudes...jet streams et al. Yes I suppose that would fall under atmospheric make up..

Also as I recall..the earth's magnetic field is not fixed..but changing and often maps and such magnetic field information needs be updated..

The rotation of the earth would have much to do with that on the magnetic field.....and most do not know....the earth is like a top...a gyroscope...the poles wobble...

Earth rate...Coriolis effect....et al...sound familiar ?? Particularly to long range shooters..

This is also factored into long range navigation....as well as long range shooting..including weather...

    Hooh Rah!!!!!

Oh....a side light of what I have seen with my own eyes...
If you have ever been across the Pacific Ocean and stopped at Wake Island....
As you turn onto your approach....you can see the entire island in the window ..it is that small.

The point I am making here is that in the olde days of propeller flying boats and before computers and satellites....you had to be a much better than average navigator to hit such a small spot in a big ocean ...particularly if some of your electronic gear broke down.
That is one small small island in a big big ocean.

My hat is off to those olde timers who made those runs back then.

    Thanks for reminding me Pragmatist.

The average television and or movie trained and educated American out here has no clue ....while trying to appear virtuous by promoting the Herding of Climate Change ...no clue that Active volcanos spew out more pollutants than all the man made sources globally.

There was a series of events some years back wherein there were several volcanos going off at one time here on this globe.

The very interesting thing to see was a Infra Red photo taken from space which clearly showed the line of upper atmospheric pollution from these active volcanos around the equator.....blocking out the sunlight...with their pollutants...

Look people....what we really need here is some laws passed against active volcanos....that ought to take care of most of the pollution going on....we need to Herd active volcanos with some strict news laws against such.
Now then we can really really feel virtuous about ourselves..

    Ishmaelites run wild..

    Makes sense to me!!!!

Some things you learn well enough that you can never forget.

I never got to Wake Island. Smallest Island I landed on was Johnson Island in the Pacific, and I would love to forget that place. That was in 84'.

For all of us "old school" fellows. The poles moving makes a big difference when your using a magnetic compass and the declination on your map is wrong. If traveling very far, I'd hate to end up in the wrong country. LOL!

I think the poles have shifted so much recently that even GPS satellites had to be recalibrated. Earth's Magnetic North Pole Has Shifted So Much We've Had to Update GPS (sciencealert.com)

The axis if the Earth has a wobble that will slowly affect the seasons but don't worry, it is a 22,000 year wobble and nothing that will happen fast or have any effect in a lifetime.

Many of my better maps have a scale on them for adjusting the magnetic angle for magnetic north. What many people don't understand is that what people in one place call north with a compass may be almost East or West for people someplace else. You compass is not pointing at the north pole. I is pointing at a place in Canada but it is now heading towards Siberia.

If you are in say England, your compass is pointing sort of west into Canada. If you are in Northern Russia it is pointing mostly East once again to Canada. I live in East Texas, Which I might say is somehow suddenly a lot closer to the polar areas that it was!!!!, and my north is fairly close to pointing to the North Star.

Navigating at sea by compass is NOT a good idea. Over a trip of many thousand miles your compass will slowly change. If you left the west coast of North Africa going due east youwould not end up where you should. You would slowly curve north as your angle to the magnetic north changed. That is why naval navigation is done by stellar observations. Polaris is ALWAYS over the North pole no matter where you are in the Northern hemisphere. The Southern Cross does the same for you in the Southern hemisphere.

The magnetic poles are mostly affected by the liquid iron core of our planet and being liquid it has currents that over time will vary in their exact directions. For people things seem set in stone but the fact is that everything on this planet is in motion, just on a millennial scale.

Speaking of climate and weather, Texas is currently experiencing the extreme variability of local weather change. It is freaking FREEZING here. It is 16 and headed to 6 tonight. We have been without power of heat all day and it is 40 in the house right now. Fortunatly the power came back on a little while ago and we have the heaters blasting while we have them. They are doing rolling blackouts in Texas right now because our wind generated power sources froze up and just stopped. They can’t run the entire state at one time so we are going to have ocassioal one hour blackouts.

We personally are doing pretty good. We moved into one room and heated it with a propane heater. We also have books and love to read so time didn't lay heavy on us.

Normal for East Texas this time of year is highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s with an ocassional light freeze and a few days in the low 40s for highs. February is generally a month that I do a lot of fishing. If this keeps up I'm going to have to find out if I can still wear my blizzard suit that I used to work in the freezers as a food distributor many years ago.

We have about 4" of snow and more coming tonight. This is in a place that only sees scant flurries on a once every ten years basis so it is a mess. I had to dig in the back of my closet to find a real coat. All I ever normally wear on the really cold days is a hoodie over maybe a flannel shirt. For shoes I have tennis shoes or cowboy boots for general use. Fortunately I hunt so I do have some insulated warm hunting boots but my wife has nothing decent for snow.

We have only had one reported death so far but there will be more when things warm up. The homeless in Houston are in trouble. That one death was a man that lived in his van and he froze to death last night. People here are just ignorant about how to stay warm. We have lot more days with the temperature in the 115 to 120 range than in the single digits.

I think that I may buy a bigger heater that I can run off of a biger propane tank. The one that I’m using right now uses one pound cans. I have a lot of one pound cans and can refill them from bigger tanks but that is a pain in the butt and something that I have to do outside.

The high between now and Friday is forcast to be just a degree or two above freezing so the busted water pipes are not going to make themselves known until next week. I am so glab that I am retired. We had a freeze like this about 15 or 20 years ago and I spent almost two week freezing my but off under houses fixing pipes. The money was great but I was cold all the time!

    Good morning TexDanm,

Probably a typo and I'm the last one who should be mentioning this. My posts have poorly constructed sentences, too many obviously omitted sections due political sensitivities, poor spelling and little proofreadng.

Re west coast of Africa; It's the Atlantic section of Morocco, former Spanish Sahara and blending into Gulf of Guinea ...... I helped build the sulphur plant Safi, Morocco ...... The boat trip would be going true west - to setting of the sun at 270 degrees true west - to North America.

On the oil tankers they had everything for navigation and positioning AND the home offices knew this too. The cargo had 2 commas for the big bucks and the liquid cargo was increasing in value even during the trip.

    .......

Am slowly thawing out from the global warming here and another Arctic blast forecast for Thursday. I now know why our European breathern went to the Caribbean !

Are there any reports coming in about livestock freezing to death ? My milk goat is giving birth in the predawn hours as I type this in sub zero temperatures . With a lot of lack of sleep I managed to catch my nanny giving birth in the hay inside her structure and got a propane heater going to keep them warm . Two little ones so for .

    Pragmatist...

People I know around Farmville...near Amelia are out of electricity for two days and just got it back on last night as I was leaving from work to come home.

I was not aware until speaking with them that the Ice had gotten so bad out that way.

Also know people around Houston, Texas and what is going on down there...

Nice here today in Hampton but nonetheless I am going to take my car and not my Scooter today.

We have been fortunate here in the Hampton Rhodes area...

I was not talking about a nation on the African continent, I was just referring to the west coast of that continent. Just as I might mention someone going out to the West Coast or East Coast here even though there is no state on the west coast of the US named the West Coast. Honestly the tiny little globe that I looked at is so tiny that I didn't get out a magnifying glass to read the names of the exact names of the nations on the north west portion of the African continent.

LOL, This is a globe that is the size of a baseball that I use for a general visual reference. A map on the computer just doesn't offer the same understanding of things that a globe, even a tiny one offers you. Maps distort the size and actual shapes of things. I have seen a lot of maps and show Alaska as being about the same size as the entire western half of the US.

It has been a LOOOOOOG time since my high-school geography and I guess that portion of Africa just has not received the attention that places like the Middle East has received.

We are freezing our butts off in Southeast Texas right now. They are turning off our power for long periods and the nights are in the single digets. Kt is 4:30 PM and it is just now getting up to 55 degrees in my livingroom. They turned our power off last night at around 3AM and it was off until noon. We had only had it on for about 10 hours when that happened. We have ice and snow all over everywhere and people don't know how to drive on it. There are no trucks to clear the roads you just have to drive on this stuff.

I'm fortunate in that I have propane heaters that I use for camping and such so my bedroom where we are camping out is not to bad. Where I live it isn't unusual for people to drive up to 45 miles one way to work. That is just not possible right now. I used to drive 70 miles to work and that was not my longest comute. We drive a lot in Texas. The bridges in a lot of places are iced and closed.

We are going to be trapped until Friday where I live. Between now and then the temturatures are going to be in the low 30s for highs and then back into the teens or single digets at night.

We can look at this sub zero temperature event as a opportunity to ferret out any weaknesses in our survival preps . For instance my group had prepared for an alternate water source and even a pull cart to transport water . Yesterday one of our homes was out of water with frozen pipes . I put 12 gallons of water on my pull cart and transported the water to the waterless home . However the cart idea was based on a simple power grid down scenario not a deep snow . I would have been better off transporting water with a sleigh instead of a wheeled cart . I will try to remedy this overlooked scenario . --- One of our polar shift advocates with assess to a world globe might could figure out where this phenomenon is causing things to get hotter and what part of the globe is getting colder . Obviously our governments and news outlets will not report on this as this theory flushes their global warming hoax down the toilet .

I remember when they were warning us about an impending ice-age, then it moved to global warming and now I would be surprised if it didn't swing back to a coming ice age. They have about worn out the global warming scam. It is all a scam though. If you will look back you will see that WEATHER is very changeable and not a long term situation. Some years are hot, some cold and then along comes a year like this one where in places it is extreme but in the end it is just part of a cycle of weather and not a long term global change in our environment.
