the politicians in canada, quebec and city of montreal just about closed everything non essential and well it looks like the panic has started in my area. I went to the local grocery store to get some stuff , the parking lot was full, strange for a friday afternoon. there was not a cart to be had, so i say to myself big deal i will use one of those hand baskets. i walk in the store and the line up is around the store. i walked out, i went to several other stores,The same thing, i then went in to a local small store to buy a loaf of bread and a thing of milk. people had their shopping carts full . Panic buying is in full flight.
i can almost just hear the band playing the night they drove old dixie down

Those that run to the store and bought up a few weeks of supplies are basically the sheeple crowd . Only the isolated and serious prepper will have a good chance surviving this . This won't be over in a few weeks when the sheeples supplies run out . I see desperate hoping coming from the unprepared . Like the government will develop a miracle drug and save them , The summer heat will kill it , it really ain't that bad . I don't have a crystal ball as to what is to come but can safely say its fixing to get a lot worse . Something like this is what I have been preparing for so no panicking here .

No panic in Heartland S.Appalachia, however if you cross the mountains and enter the Piedmont you'll see it begin. The coastal cities will, of course, poo their pants.

I was just out shopping at a hardware store and things were business as usual. Yesterday all was well at a grocery. Universities have told the kids to stay home even after spring break. Online classes are being made available. American universities, especially ones with schools of engineering, have lots of Asian students.

As near as I can tell the PANIC is mostly in urban places and mostly liberals.

No panic that I can tell here in northern Colorado. I think last I heard there were at least 50 people infected in the state. But people are buying up hand sanitizer, toilet paper, pasta and other stupid crap.

although I live in a rural area not many people these days garden, 99% of gardens in the UK are either a kids playground with the ubiquitous trampoline or they are a general dumping area.

The idiot liberals panic no matter where they live. If you will look at the map of the last presidential election you will probably be able to pretty well figure out the areas of massive panic. Most conservatives don't live with only 12 hours' worth of food in the house. Our conservative instincts just don't allow us to be comfortable with that sort of thing. We are the ones that fill our gas tanks and keep them full when there is a hurricane in the water near us, in my case in the Gulf of Mexico. Most of the things that people are rushing out to by I already had and I started and finished a little stocking up as soon as the media started pumping it up. The panic isn't caused by a disease unless you want to call stupidity and deceit diseases. The media and the Democrats are pushing this into a place far darker than any reasonable reality. even if the coronavirus sweeps through our nation I doubt that at the end of the year that it will even be in the top ten direct causes of death.

Below is a map that shows the counties vote in the 2016 presidential election the blue is Hilary and the red is Trump.

The ridiculous thing is that people are going to have to catch this virus or be vaccinated before they can develope any kind of resistance to it, all the pasta, hand sanitizer and toilet paper in the world won't change that.
The idiots who are panic buying come from all walks of life, all political views or educational backgrounds. This virus won't respect boundaries or politics. Apparently for around 98% of people it's no worse than seasonal flu but give it a name like covid19 and suddenly it's turning ordinary people into complete assholes without any dignity.
Good nutrition, hydration, hygiene and rest will get most people through this. The shops were stripped of dry food while fresh meat and veg which are much better for you remained on the shelves...where is the sense in that?

The coming civil war is going to be a reticular war.

Heartland will initially be injured by the currency collapse. However, once a system of barter sets in, this will ameliorate that issue. I hope it helps a lot. But, let's face it, that'll be a kick in the teeth. People who never trusted currency have already converted their money into land and tools.

The Leftists will attempt to force the Heartland to continue shipping out food and fuel to the cities using the military and police as their enforcers. Problem is that our combat / boots-on-the-ground military personnel are very heavily represented by Heartlanders. Urban police are already fed-up with having to deal with neighborhoods who are overtly anti-police. I see lots and lots of things going VERY bad for the urbanites when it comes to their getting others to do their redistributing of wealth for them. It's working now, but when push comes to shove, the military is going to protect their own. Indeed, there could very well be a military takeover of government.

So we go to the grocery today and yep, the toilet paper is gone. This made my wife lower her already low opinion of the sheeple. People weren't buying-out what one would expect people in panic mode to buy. Nope, it was specifically the toilet paper.

Canned goods, canned meats, ..., all in good stead. Some things were running down on the shelves, but the weekends are when people shop for these things anyway.

Toilet paper supplies at two stores were GONE.

Rarely have I seen that level of disgust on my wife's face. And she dropped the F bomb. And she doesn't use the F bomb. "F###ing stupid people! Just because this was mentioned first on TV, these cattle go out and buy-up all the d###ed toilet paper!"

Coroner reports, "Well these people died of starvation."

Officer Tanner, "Did they have anything else in common?"

    Coroner, "Very, very clean butts."

    HAHAHA!

Yeah, I have a pic of my store here, and it's the same for the other stores.

    43e5abe36b22c676aede3a2429934172.jpeg

That's the butt wipe and paper towel aisle. In the canned goods aisle that was practically striped bear as well. Also pasta and the meat department. The store employee there said tomorrow they will be closing by 9 PM instead of 12 AM and Walmart is going to reduce their store hours as well. In the meantime my mom needs cat litter and the idiots grabbed all that, too. We may have to buy bags of sand at Home Depot or Lowes I guess. Don't know what else to use.

It's pretty mixed in Aus, depending on where you live I guess. The pharmacy in town said there were now 3 cases in our area. Most people just walk around like it's another day. The grovelment has initiated various distancing tactics. Bondi beach was packed last week but is now closed and totally deserted. They have police and rangers patrolling it.

I live nearly an hour to a small town that has basic shops you need. People from the cities have come in and cleaned out toilet paper, which they're doing in all rural towns. They (I presume) go on to sell them, as there have been some people trying to sell bog roll for $50 and more for a packet.

I'm not worried where I am though. Am sufficiently prepared for what's to come, already stocked up on medines, food etc, as I think it's going to get a shitload worse before it gets any better.

I own a timber plantation in southern Mississippi . I can not sell the timber because the wood mills have shut down and the loggers are out of business . Guess what they make toilet paper from or any paper for that matter " trees " . perhaps there are timber products being made in other parts of the nation I can only speak of which I know .

I would guess with markets down so low across the board, there wouldnt be any reason for the wood to move. Coronavirus or market forces, no one is going to mill wood if there is no buyer for the dry they have on hand.

You would think business would be booming for pulp mills.

Either way, at some point (I hope) the markets go back up, pent up demand hits, and then, well... you still have the trees. Not much consolation now, if you depend on the income to make ends meet. Im right there with you. I really have to be working, and its not looking good.

Business is booming on Vancouver island at the pulp mill since it’s all going to making masks and gowns. In order for them to make it though they need the mills to run in order to supply the pulp mills with a steady supply of chips and dust.

I think rural areas should worry, possibly even more than us in the big cities. It make take a while for the virus to reach there, but when it does, small towns won’t have the medical personnel or equipment needed.

    Good afternoon BugOutHive,

I'm in a rural area and believe I had a mild case of COVID-19.

True, this place has inadequate medical personnel and medical equipment/facility. Yet, rural living requires more than basic self-sufficiency, at least from the Prepper perspective.

It is still much healthier an area than the 2 big towns I'm located between: Washington, D.C. and Hampton Roads, Virginia.

I've taken an emergency field dental course (overseas) and a couple of folks around here know the Boy Scout / Girl Scout first aid stuff and a little extra. Wouldn't enter the local hospital - even the parking lot - because it's unsanitary.

If options exist: rural living is healthier and safer.

It may be the kind of hostile situation that I've been preparing for all these years but it's still strange when it hits. Yesterday was so quiet when I took the rifle out to look for a couple of bunnies I could have been the last man on earth...The UK is a crowded island, even though I live in a reasonably remote place that lack of human background noise is unheard of here...no vapour trails from aeroplanes, no distant traffic...nothing but birdsong and my own footsteps....I could get used to that.

this place is so quiet I often say its like a ghost town, well its more so at the moment, cars parked up going nowhere, no one on the streets-the odd person but not like it is normally.
no school buses, no kids coming home around 4pm cos their all in doors already.
I like it, but then wife says i'm a recluse anyway. i'm spending more time in my work shed.
with the lockdown we are only allowed to go for our country walk once a day.

#glad to see you back Ystranc.

It may seem like it's a big fuss about nothing at the moment but you need to look 14 days ahead. You can look online at the figures for Italy and they look bad but the UK is almost perfectly matching the same curve for numbers of infected and the mortality rate...we are just two weeks behind them that is all. It's not just the old and sick, it also takes the occasional young, healthy person. It seems like it has already spread far and wide even before the social distancing policy began here in the UK.
Unless you folks right across the US start taking it seriously is is going to bite both you and the Trump administration in the ass, hard enough to really hurt. New York and California are just the beginning.
Good luck and try to stay safe. Hand washing, hygiene, good nutrition and social distancing won't prevent it but will slow the spread of it and help you recover.

The US now has the highest number of cases at over 100,000. Death rate is only 1,500 odd at this stage. With the number of cases, they want to hope the country can cope. They currently have over 2,400 critical cases as it is.

I'm not concerned with that aspect. We have a very good local hospital but if need be, patients would be transferred to the large hospital by ambulance that has sufficient personnel and equipment.

I'm hoping that urban hospitals don't begin dumping patients out to rural hospitals.

I live 100 miles away from any large urban area, however that gives me little comfort.

A walk in the woods around here means that you could be a half-mile or two miles from the next human. There all manner of people who live back in the hollars, however. The likelihood of their having been anywhere to get exposed to this virus however is mighty small. Small towns, then lots of surrounding farms, then forested mountains. I could leave my house and walk to a river, then cross a bridge, walk a bit further and be in a national forest. Going the other direction, I could walk to a grocery or a pharmacy. Even though I'm crippled, with the braces and the cane, zoom zoom zoom I go.

I'm in the same sort of situation as you Old Geezer. There is talk of some people getting infected in our area from a cruise, which seems to be the most common way of catching it over here. However, I'm a considerable distance from them and surrounded by farms and forests. Mind you, I couldn't walk to a grocery or a pharmacy. Well, I suppose I could but at around 45 minutes drive in a car in extremely hilly terrain, I certainly wouldn't fancy it!

Hopefully all of you old farts will still be with us when this is over. The hope of it being over by Easter is a false hope, this is going to be circulating and popping up all over the world for months, possibly til next year when there is an expectation of a vaccine being ready. You will need to remain vigilant.

    Good morning Ystranc,

American "society" is fragmented with little "glue" holding the place together. Fragments keep isolated from each other except at common gasoline stations, big stores like Walmart, the public health facilities, ...

Many Americans do not care about their own or others' health. US enforcement mechanisms are thin and overwhelmed.

I've been washing hands and practicing personal hygiene since Cub Scout days. The current US population, especially the metro centers, are filthy germ pools.

It's difficult to avoid the worst of the vectors because of subsidized gasoline and subsidized cars. We are just a mobile society with long-neglected problems that are now mushrooming.

    Good morning Old Geezer,

I work / worked the logistics supply and resupply of my rural county's emergency shelter to include its small ALS clinic, typically staffed with a RN and EMT.

Had represented my county at a big town 3 day emergency sheltering meeting / seminar. Can't type here specifics because of briefing I got from county officials but it's the place near where our Watcherchris lives.

Ref " ... droping patients out to rural hospitals": This was discussed and for ~ 2+ days, I was the recipient of hate stares and dagger eyes.

You are right to have "little comfort"

Madam Prag wants me nowhere near that emergency shelter's ALS clinic.

Absolutely true Lonewolf, anyone can spread the disease and the incubation period of 14 days is only a best guess, there are outplaying statistics that show at least one recorded incubation period of 27 days before symptoms appeared. Think how many people the average person could infect in that time.

well we are being good little citizens here at the moment, we go out once a day for our exercise which in our case is a country walk, if we meet anyone-which isn't guaranteed- we pass each other on either side of the road, I am going to the corner shop once a WEEK, mainly for bread and milk(save our flour and UHT until it gets worse and there is no bread and milk), apart from that we are home all the time, I am spending more time in my shed.
Wife is experimenting with a yoghurt maker!!

If you're making yogurt a great shortcut is to use the UHT milk seeded with live natural yogurt rather than messing around boiling fresh milk and then cooling it. I like to make it with full fat, we then add our own frozen fruit from our own garden

Something that has crossed my parnoid mind , all the older members have no doubt notice the frenzy of new members since the Virus began its rampage and that is great . Also though have noticed " though the phenomona may not be new " the number of guests silently monotoring this site . As of a few minutes ago the tally for the moment was 6 members and 146 guests . I can't help but wonder if that has something to do with the huge influx of out of state people that has swarmed into the Ozarks over the last few days with their campers , tents and bug out bags . If so i can tell those watching and contemplating on what to do running to the Ozarks is not going to work . Public land has been closed off and automobiles left parked while they run off with their bug out bags are being towed off . Private land owners or of the rustic old school type that might shoot tresspasers and drop them down one of the many holes around here . All i can say is they should have seriously prepped before S.H.T.F. . That advice has been relentlessly been preached on this site long before the crises arrived .

I was thinking more about them being in their bug out bags ... I guess they would have checking out sites beforehand :)

I don't think that it is so much panic as it is STUPIDITY being exposed all over the place. I read today about a 19-year-old idiot that attacked and stabbed an oriental looking family in Sam's Wholesale. He went after the parents and also stabbed their 2 and 6-year-old kids before a person jumped him and disarmed him. His reason...He thought that they were Chinese that were there to spread the Chinese CoronaVirus. How stupid can a person be? He is screwed. Along with three state charges of attempted murder and one charge of aggravated assault he will also get Federal charges for it being a Hate Crime. that means that when or if he ever serves out or parols from the state that the Feds will grab him and he will start all over again. The good news is that the people he attacked were only injured and will be OK and best of all he will probably be older than me before he ever sees the free light of day again.

People all over the place are doing all sorts of ignorant crazy $hi+. This stupidity pandemic is going to end up killing more people than the virus if things keep escalating. I think that it is almost inevitable that at some point riots are going to be the go-to form of entertainment and stupidity of the masses. I just hope it will stay limited to the liberal pi$$ hole cities because if it happens in places like Florida, Texas or the other states with the common right to have, carry and use firearms and have Castle/Stand Your Ground laws the blood is going to run like rivers.
