Something I have been contemplating lately . This forum has a boat load of members that I enjoy reading their posts regardless of where I think they stand as being prepared for teotwawki . As the planet rapidly slides into an apocalypse world , this is going to get very sad . At some point I can see leaving this site to keep from reading about the sad and desperate plights some of our members will find themselves . Those half as-d prepped will find themselves in desperate times and frankly I may not want to read about their sad situations . We have some members desperately hoping that the pep talks politicians give are true " frankly I don't " . I see no reason this will do anything but keep getting worse for at least another year and that is my cheery optimistic prediction . What is the view of other members on this .

    Good morning Poltiregist,

    Per request, my view;

I see this as less an apocalypse event and more so a pandemic coupled to governments reformatting their internal organizations and functions to prepare for a "New World Order" ("NWO") arrangement.

In a year, "herd immunity" could realistically be present in the US. It's just impossible for someone to be 100% "prepped". The situation is too dynamic and also rapidly changing.

The public health aspects currently in use appear to be working. These measures have little to do with dangerous locations like New York City with dense living conditions and poor practice of personal hygiene, diet, and life style (much entertainment in NYC). Aforesaid are traceable to - governmental programs - and not an imported COVID-19 disease.

Concurrent with the public health measures going on, I take due note that the hospital ship, USNS Comfort, was outfitted for deployment in Norfolk, Virginia by a workforce compensated much less than counterpart labor in NYC. I see the same for the professional staffing of the vessel: the medical personnel are paid military rates and the ship's crew are Federal Civil Service. This is classic symbolism: those doing difficult work at lower compensation deployed to NYC to help those who "party hard". Again: the symbolism.

Any different with the Los Angeles situation ?

This "restructuring" I see going on has benefits. I don't know some of the major specifics but do know a restaurant cannot employ workers and transfer their health care costs to the public treasury. I see this also with the major companies like auto manufacturers. They transfer their - unfunded - pension plans to the public treasury.

Another benefit I see starting is the increased rates for required insurance. It's only my personal opinion but I do take offense to private citizens having a comfortable life style that's funded (indirectly) by the public paying for their insurance.

The major negative changes going on are caused by matters well prior to the corona virus and it's COVID-19 disease.

These major negative changes require a reduced standard of living. We're getting too much pandemic horror stories from the media and too few about the bigger dangers such as "debt service" and "deficit reduction" (won't happen).

I am as prepared as any private citizen Prepper yet this preparedness isn't occurring in a vacuum. Am now older than last year and know that without massive governmental reforms, the nation will experience problems much worse than a new contagious disease.

    Time to wash hands........

    The party's over.

As a member of the Senior, Seniors Club, I don't think the country is going to completely collapse in my remaining life time. I do see it failing in my son's life time. I have hopes to have them setup with remote rural land, food, water, defensive supplies and a defensive-able homestead. I started prepping to too late in my life, for us (me and the wife), to be where I think people are going to need to be. I am hoping that this crisis will not escalate as fast as some folks here think it will but I doubt is will be as slow progressing as I would like it to be. This is just the tip of the economic iceberg. We were already 20 trillion + in debt and by the time this crisis is done piling on the pork, we will be 35 Trillion + in debt. Property values are going to tank (Again). Banks are going to tank (again). Unemployment will rise, again. Welfare costs will rise again. The good news, illegal's will start to leave the country, as they get kicked off the band wagon. We will survive this crisis and maybe even the next crisis but the camel with that weak back and that straw are headed for a fatal meeting.

I have an advantage over many. You see, I've never been happy.

There have been fleeting moments in my life wherein I was happy for a while, even ecstatic; however in the greater scheme of things, I've not been happy. Everything in my life has been about loss. I am teased into thinking that happiness might exist, then I get to watch a loved one die some unimaginably horrible death. People who have held power over the circumstances of my life have been mutant demons in making my life, the life of my wife, and our children a living hell. I have encountered between eight and maybe 12 people in my life who were good at heart, really genuinely good at heart. I may have been protected "from beyond"; I think I have. Maybe God cares, but I've never felt His love. I feel strongly that He has helped others. I do not resent others having an easy life. That my life has been a ongoing rape of the soul is just my lot.

It brings peace and comfort to my soul when bad people get killed.

It may be hard for others to believe, but I believe that I will be happy when I die. Not here. I'll never be happy here; all hope has been burned away from me. I'll be happy when I'm dead. Hallelujah!

Aaaaw Gold Geezer. You've made me so sad ... I wish I could jump through the screen and give you a hug.

I'll be happy when I'm dead too. Not because I have a death wish or anything like that but because I strongly believe there's more to this life than where we are. Life seems to be full of disappointments but that's what life is, one challenge after another. It can be hard to practice gratitude and find some remnants of happiness but they do exist. Reading your posts make me happy for example. You bring so much to others on this forum and you would be very dearly missed. I hope you don't die too soon.

I lost the light of my life a bit over a year ago..and have been at some level sad and since.

Oh ... there are moments when I am happy ..or at least satisfied. Helped her with raising her four children and am happy to see them...to go out to dinner with them. But this virus business has changed all of that.

One of them brought me the sea trout I just cooked with succotash.

But life is empty and sad without her warmth..Peace..

I like to give their two children, her grandchildren, a real American Silver Dollar when I see them. They should have quite a collection now.
Once in awhile I give them a real Canadian Maple Leaf....one oz. and tell them to put it away with the silver dollars.

Hopefully one day they will realize what they have...

    I miss her.....

I'm so sorry Watcherchris. It must still be very raw for you. You will never stop missing her, I'm afraid. But it does get a little bit easier with time. It's surprising what little things can trigger the memories, too. And yes, a certain level of sad will remain.

"Hopefully one day they will realize what they have" They will.

Had a great uncle who'd give me a silver dollar when we'd visit. Never forgot him. He's why I buy coins from times past. (Sure isn't because of counting money out the gambling machines when a kid. Maybe that made me like rolls of coins / the physical weight of money / real money.)

Now almost 60 years later, I can see my smiling Uncle Eb handing me a giant silver coin. Front porch, white house, country air, creaking screen door. Eb and Lucy were saints. They just were. Are -- just not here on Earth.

Just reached into my desk drawer and have a piece of silver betwixt me fingers.

    Thanks Olde Geezer,

    and

Yeah...I have currently in my Levi's coin pocket two silver dollars...a 1922 and 1923 date and a 2009 Canadian Maple leaf .999 fine. I get them when I have a bit of extra coin on me...as my overhead here is not as with many people...fortunately.
On occasion I switch to buying a roll of pre 1964 dimes.

But...since the lockdown...not sure about when my source will be open...will have to try to make contact.

I do not collect for dates...or numanistically...but for the metal content..and because I like silver and history...lest we forget...

The Olde Religions sometimes teach silver for the moon and gold for the sun...

Silver people tend towards being night people...and conversely gold people tend toward being day walkers…..and I tend to fit that pattern..a night person.

Going to visit my Lady Friends and Parents graves today and clean up around their headstones. Put back the solar lights and flowers..I removed for the initial seasonal spring clean up.
Picked up one of those manual roller sidewalk trimmers/edgers instead of bringing my gas weed eater.

At night I go by and visit on the way home from work and sometimes on my scooter.. The solar lights Is how I find them.
Solar lights have come a long ways over the years.

Yes indeed...I am a night person and often to be found up at night...standing the night watch....and often out in my garage...tinkering with something or the other on the work bench.

Amen. And I knew a lot of people that didn't deserve to share oxygen with the rest of the world. I'm talking about a certain mafia family. The things I've seen from their hands will make one vomit let me tell you.

I do believe in reincarnation and I for one ain't coming back either. I'm told we had a choice of coming here and I'm told here in this world we learn faster. But I'm not making this mistake again. If I'm able to stay in that other world you may call paradise or whatever, that's where I'm staying. I think if I did have the choice to come here, I made an awful mistake, but I also learned a shit ton too. And I never stop learning. My aunt who died of cancer was of the same opinion. Here motto was always, "life's a bitch and the you die." Ain't it the truth. I guess it's really all in all how you approach life and do with it how you want with your freewill. But there's something called money that really messes up that endeavor. They say money doesn't bring happiness. Well, these are the people that never had it from the begin with! I could be debt free, live comfortable, have my dream bunker, sail the great lakes and go through the Saint Lawrence river and down the eastern sea board to the Florida keys. This is something I want to do one day in a cabin cruiser. I need to get an IRA, etc and hope I can do it by the time I retire. I'm already 39 and I'm not getting any younger. I just want those six damn numbers to match up which I play all the time. LOL!

    Thanks F22!

I agree with your post above. Regarding money, without it, you can't do anything, so yeah, money can't buy you happiness is a load of bollocks in my opinion. Just look at all the poverty and misery in this world.

Happiness is often a carefully crafted illusion in many economically affluent nations.

Contentment is more like it to me...

There is a reason for which many nations are economically poor...and miserable..and it is not accidental..and also not a reason or which most of our leaders or leadership financed education systems ever want us to know...
This knowledge is carefully missing from our television and move trained minds by design.

I don't need money to be happy, good job too as I never had much money .
happiness is something that can be enjoyed by walking in the countryside, watching nature in all its forms.
money is just what you pay the bills with.

I too do not have much money...

Fortunately I do not have the overhead of so many in raising a family.

A good woman who can bring me Peace is my definition of Contentment...or if you prefer happiness.

I am not interested in keeping up with the Jones's or neighbors as the olde saying goes.

Don't care what kind of car or television they have.

I like riding my scooters about to take care of business and mostly when the weather is good...don't care what others think.,..or like though I have cars and a truck.

I laugh all the way to the bank here. Scooters save me lots of monies in fuel costs.

There is a lot of evil in the world, and God knows a lot of sadness. Life has certainly kicked me in the crotch more times than I would care to admit. You just keep going, and move on. Adapt and survive. That is what we do. I for one have no intention of just rolling over and dying. Now would be a pretty easy time to do it.

There is a lot of good as well, and a lot to be thankful for. An old saying: Every day may not be a good day, but there is good in every day. I can look around, and find just as much to be thankful for as I can the things that are distasteful, even abhorrent.

Here is a blessing I have used at Christmas time for many years: Dear Lord. Please give us all a fat wallet and a thin waist line. And please Lord, don't get them mixed up like you did last year.

Nobody "needs" money until they don't have enough to pay bills and survive on basics. There's a difference between needing and wanting. It's not fun to have to constantly juggle money and face poverty on a daily basis. Unfortunately, a lot more people are going to be doing exactly that with the event of this virus and the government lockdowns.
