Do you drive or ride on your trail?

What kinds of vehicles do any of you use to get around while you are on your trail?

 

On foot but with a vehicular backup!

 

I do alot of 4x4ing, thats my type of trail. I own a late model lifted patrol, with lockers and big tyres, built to conquer the tough tracks. Gets beat around abit and doesnt drive quite as smooth as it used to but will go wherever i point it.

 

Nice ute keith, i am a fan of the hilux's, quite good for touring also, they handle reasonably well onroad too due to the independent front suspension. Run aftermarket front shocks and they are a pretty reliable rig and can handle almost anything thats thrown at them.

 

I mostly do the trailing using my mountain bike. I love to go to adventures and at the same time having my survival kit. The best part is doing it together with my friends so that if ever something unexpected happens, I am not alone in the wilderness.

 

Most of the work I do around our acreage is either with our Kawaski MULE or the Ford F150 pickup truck. The former gets the most use when taking care of things around the homestead though. They've been both solid rigs.

 

I love to go wheeling in the woods. But most of the time I walk. Thats how to really enjoy the experience of nature according to me.
I used to have a horse, that was awesome also. But my boots is what I trust the most. It makes me focus on my surroundings rather than what's taking me there.

 

In the winter it’s snow machine or snow shoes. The snow gets pretty deep and we live on the side of a mountain so winter travel is tough. I have to keep my trails cut in the summer for winter travel. We tried cross country skies when we first moved here, but it’s too hilly to effectively use skies.

When the snow is gone it side by side or 4 wheelers. I have 10 miles or so of trail cut above my place for harvesting firewood and other resources. The only time we walk is when hunting or harvesting from the forest. Otherwise we ride to get our work done more quickly.

 

I don't particularly like trails even though I will occasionly get lazy and use one . I was taught to never return on the same route you used to reach your destination , there might be a ambush waiting for you on your return trip . I know this sounds ridiculous and paranoid and that's because it is , survival is thoroughly engrained in my thought process . Even years after needing these skills have elapsed , I still use them . When I traverse remote terrain it is almost always on foot .

 

Just a add on to the above post , I always wear clothing that will blend into the nearby environment . Never nothing bright and gaudy for me . The only clothing I own that doesn't blend in to my environment is my go to a funeral white shirt . I want to be ready to instantly step into the timber and disappear . Paranoid ,very much so .

Nice truck! That should haul some serious firewood! Those Lada Nivas were everywhere in Central America back in the 1980s. The Soviets set up Lada distribution hubs in some of the ports as a front for dirty deeds. They looked like capable little 4WDs. Never got to drive one.

 

I totally avoid trails, other then the ones I build that depart directly off the back of my homestead. I have my own "Blaze" mark. Only one trail is marked with very small reflectors for night navigation E&E (Escape & Evasion)

Some years back myself and another woodsman blazed the first trail from "Upper Paradise Lake" to "Lower Paradise Lake". To say it was hell'ish to accomplish, would be a huge understatement. Was one of those foolish things you do in life, just because everyone say's, it can not be done.

 

The only kind of trailing I do is on foot. But anything else I'll use my 2wd truck.
