Oil is not only critical for the US economy, it’s also critical for the world economy. The US economy is only viable when the world economy is growing and robust.

This world shutdown will kill a significant amount of the US economy by eliminating much of the more fragile oil industry such as those involved in fracking. Oil has been a significant driving factor in the economic boom these past several years. The end result will slow the US recovery and leave us once again dependent on foreign oil.

I think I will have to disagree. We will not be dependent on foreign oil. The small guys will fade away but the big guys will now know where to find these oil reserves. The big cost is locating oil and the big guys will just buy up these closed wells and re-open these sites once the cost / demand for oil returns.

I just wonder Post Virus if there will be as much demand for oil and road fuels as there was Pre Virus.
many people can and did work from home-therefore reducing the need for commuting time and costs.
many people have gone onto home delivery of food shopping therefore reducing footfall in supermarkets and the need to travel to the store.
lots of people have increased their Ebay and Amazon purchases, again reducing the need to go to a store, that probably dosent have the item or the size required in store anyway.

post Virus life could be very different to before.

I strongly doubt the demand for road vehicle will be as high. This is not only due to the plague, but also due to the previous push by major world government (G20) to embrace electric vehicle.

However I do see possible spike demand for Jet A1, this is mostly because there are a lot of people whose behind in their travel itinerary that involve flying (including myself). Also demand for petroleum based products will spike post pandemic to fulfill all kind of industrial need.

    https://maritime-executive.com/editorials/ban-on-heavy-fuel-oil-in-arctic-shipping-moves-ahead

    Good evening all,

There could be less ocean vessel use of the old gooey Bunker C fuel because of the currently in force International Maritime Organization's "IMO 2020" restrictions on dirty fuel.

The clean fuel costs a little more and it does come down to less vessels working the trade because of the increased cost.

These fuels are called eg Marine Gasoil, Vacuum Gasoil, Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (VLSFO).

The above link tells of the new regulations in re the Arctic. The overall Arctic plans are more than a few years away because Russia has leverage in this area. Still, this is the area to watch.

A few days ago a report came to me of a small oil refinery in southern Arkansas - U.S. being dismantled . This info is probably accurate though I will not guarantee its accuracy . This certainly points toward the oil industry expecting to not need as much refined oil products in the future .

Relevant to this thread.........and even more relevant to the bigger global chess game.

After a careful read of this short essay........it came to me that all of the governments and all of the nations are now all self-defeated. Mostly by squandering their assets on folly. We are "ALL" still telling ourselves we are rich and powerful, yet we are all bankrupted and defeated. Kind'a group suicide, of ten thousand tiny cuts.

And maybe that is not a bad failed gambit. While blindly attempting to avoid being checkmated, we have each trapped ourselves, we are all exhausted, we are all confused, all the countries need a long rest.

Maybe we are exactly where our puppet-masters what us.......for the final fatal gambit.

    Good morning Sourdough,

Yes, all the nations are defeated but 2 are still at the top of the oozing pile: US and PRC.

    Just read the link.

The facts are correct enough but it started before Saudi in Yemen.

A longer time line is needed to see the picture with the new economic warfare global battlefields.

"Saudi Aramco grades [of oil]" tell us that Kissinger won. Kiss was the hired brains of Rockefeller. His financial futures market for oil transferred the OPEC Vienna function to NYC. North American fracking was the icing on the dividend checks.

Actually, the Saudi-Yemen stuff is just one "skirmish" in the Middle East. The key is when Trump publicly "blessed" (not sure if this is a pun) Jerusalem as the entire city limits being Israeli sovereign territory. The writing was - non-literally speaking - on the (Wailing) wall. The NWO arrangements for this area were clear.

The US is, in practical terms, insolvent but this is being corrected by liquidating assets, like private home ownership funded by D.C. China has the other problem: domestic political stability.

Speaking of oil, China's new oil port in Gwadar, Pakistan is next to Iran for Iranian energy supplies to get into the Gwadar pipeline for transport to the Middle Kingdom. I'm sure this has US acquiescence, if not more.

I'm guessing Afghanistan is a Chinese protectorate now.

Information that I have been holding back for a few days because I can't confirm but the source is fairly reliable . One of the major oil producers in the U.S. has sold a huge portion of mineral rights in the state of Texas to China . Does that now mean China can export Texas oil with no restrictions , to fuel its slave manufacturing empire ?

Well, if China believes in the nationalization of industries, then we should nationalize their industries.

Death to the leadership of communist China. We should snap the knees and break the spines of their spies nested here in America. We should not be educating their intel-gathering students.

When the USA brings oil from the Middle East to America, the oil is shipped through the Straits of Malacca, across the Pacific to Panama, pumped through oil pipelines to the other side of Panama, loaded onto tankers in the Caribbean Sea, and taken on up through the Gulf of Mexico to be offloaded into our pipelines off the coasts of Louisiana and Texas. Cut off the Panamanian pipelines and shutdown American access to Middle East oil. Yet another reason for America to become energy independent.

The following is another reason why China is raping the South China Sea region and threatening the US Navy, to be able to control the Straits of Malacca.

    Good afternoon Poltiregist,

Not familiar with the mentioned transaction.

As an aside, will mention that the largest Texas Gulf Coast refinery (as DOE measures "large") is Saudi Arabian.

Exports are regulated as per the export and the buyer/importer - not always the same entity.

Three and a half years ago, I'd be in worry-mode with my blood chemistry to prove it. Today, the Trump administration does things in quid pro quo fashion. It would be a trade of some sort. Of course the public won't know what's going on - but they're economically safe when Trump works the transactions.

I will tell you this...If the refineries shut down there will be some seriously cold people in the North. The plants that make gasoline and diesel also make the home heating fuel. I have never seen that. Nobody in Texas uses that sort of system for heat. We have been using natural gas for all of my life. I remember when it was a nearly valueless byproduct of oil wells and they would just run a pipe to the top of the derrick and burn it off until it was gone and then tap the oil. You could drive up through East Texas at night and it was like day in places there would be so many wells burning off the natural gas.

My wife's Grandparents had 5 or 6 oil wells on their place and they had them run gas lines to their house and they had gas yard lights that they ran 24/7 all over their place and free heating and cooking.

if the British refineries closed down that would be it for most people in this country, they wouldn't know how to survive without road fuel, heating oil and all the things that are made from petroleum products-which is probably about 90% of everything that we use these days.

Most people don't understand how important oil IS. The fact is that it is actually too important to just BURN. We need to do away with gasoline-burning cars. You probably don't realize how much of what you wear, sit on and look at is from oil. Cars are made more and more from plastics and things that came from oil.

that's the point I think, shut off the oil and we lose a lot of everyday items that the nation relies on.
no oil or petrol or diesel and the whole country would grind to a halt.
