    Good morning Blitz,

    Ref "[the police] systems are down (can you believe it?)";

Yes, can believe it and have experienced it.

I am both a NGO and public sector emergency responder. Our public sector's emergency call center is shared with the emergency operations center. The call center is part of the Sheriff's Office. Thus, know the people in both sections.

Much of the emergency systems are "hardened". There are still outages.

This is one of the rural areas where there were official public assemblies to "complain" (what else ?) about the Governor instituting new firearms amendments.

At the main meeting with elected officials, the discussions were "caustic" - can't think of better word for now. I don't attend these meetings because life is finite...just too short to waste time on the useless.

After meeting ended, there was both a telephone and light failure in that section of the county.

The naive think some workers didn't know how to splice wires together so both systems would work.

The message to those assembled and those observing was crystal clear.

On the night of this meeting the weather was fine.

While listening to the local radio station's news, I had to change from plug-in radio to battery powered. This reminded me of Mogadishu, Somalia. The telephones never worked to say the least. City-wide use of telex was always working.

All these power and communications failures just don't happen due natural adverse conditions.

Imagine driving home at night after a "heated" meeting and some traffic signals aren't working. Later, at home, no electricity for an hour.

The writing is on the to do list to get some extra flashlight/torch batteries "just in case".

Do you know, I've been trying to get them on the phone ALL DAY. "system is down, please try again later". I've never experienced anything like it in all my life. I mean seriously, what the hell?

2020-05-30 15.38.10.jpg 2020-05-30 15.38.01.jpg Well, I feel much, much better now. I managed to get out in the bush (of sorts). Went to a lovely river with pup. Not that much wood but nonetheless, I'm a happy camper! I go mental if I can't get out in the bush ...

I'm trying ... but it's not that simple. The going rate around here for a dog to be hunted and killed is $250 (for a farmer). It's extremely unlikely the government is going to pay that sort of money to have a professional shooter. One of the issues is that the staff that man the state forests here have been significantly cut down, trying to save money. So they don't have the resources to have state forest staff trap the dogs. The other issue is that the government won't let people into the forest to shoot. It's very difficult to get anything done. The only thing they do is bait with 1080 and they won't do that at the present time.

Centralized governments castrate the people, then refuse to protect them.

I'm hoping that the inner city riots we're having will spread out into the suburbs so that the lefties will personally get a taste of another culture come to visit. I hope they soil themselves.

    Good afternoon Old Geezer,

I don't know the "lay of the land" of the 2 cities, Mpls and St Paul. Thus St Paul might not be a suburbia area at all to Mpls, ...

However, I read an article several hours ago where the Minnesota Governor said that all arrested rioters in St Paul the night before were from out of state. Again, not saying this is spillover but do believe in moats and other stuff to repel.

Thank god, I live in Texas. For one thing, we don't have wild dogs here. We don't even have many unfriendly dogs that are not kept in a fenced yard. It is amazing how having a well-armed populace eliminates things like that. When I walk I always have some sort of walking stick. Usually, it is a short crook neck stock handling stick. it looks like a normal man's walking stick but is about twice as heavily made. Down here they are what you use when handling or loading hogs or cattle. If I am going to be in the woods or off the main roads I always have a handgun. Honestly, both are more for wild animals and stupid people than dogs. Loose dogs with bad manners just don't live long here.

If they would load up the "Protesters" in all of those stupid Liberal Cities and ship them to Texas we would take care of them too. Just like we do dogs with bad manners.

    https://www.sabrered.com/blog/pepper-spray-and-dogs-4-things-you-need-know

Will pepper spray / bear sprays work on dogs? I don't know. I'm asking. Anybody used pepper spray on a mean dog? Did this have any effect?

I know what a rifle will do to a dog. Know what a .357 will do. I have ZERO knowledge about pepper sprays.

Cops don't like using pepper spray against inmates. Talked to a jailer with years of experience and he said that you always get it back on you. Sprays are effective against some people, but if a person is on such drugs as angel dust (PCP), the spray has no effect.

Any inputs, folks?! If you've got info, please do share.

I keep a pump shotgun w/buckshot and a center-fire rifle ready not just for aggressive "humans", but just in case a rabid dog or dog pack shows up near my place. (I keep my firearms in gun safes, but have one or two ready when we are at home.) I really do not think a handgun would be a great idea unless loaded with .40 cal or greater, plus a very high capacity magazine. A 9mm carbine might work if you have a magazine holding >15 rounds of ammo. An AR-15 would be great, it's just that you'd have to know where the rounds were going after after they passed through the dogs. One would want highly frangible bullets.

City idiots for some reason think tht the thing to do with a dog that they don't want is to dump them out in the country. Where I used to live we developed a problem with these dumped dogs. They were running the livestock and started turning mean. I was getting a little worried about the kids. We finally put the word out for everyone to pen up their dogs for a few days and then had a massive dog killing. I DO NOT understand why people do things like that. If you can't keep the dog or if it becomes a problem animal YOU need to deal with the problem and not dump it on someone else. For one thing it is cruel as hell. they are not able to hunt or fend for themselves, they don't know how, and will die a slow miserable death if someone doesn't put them down.

Precisely. My dad used to get well into furious about people dumping dogs / being mean to them. Twice we had neighbors to move away, but leave their dog. Dad had to shoot one of those dogs. Truth be told, the dogs should have been found a new home and the "people" shot.

I do keep a 9mm carbine loaded and ready for any aggressive critters, two legged or four. The carbine holds 33 rounds of my hand loaded 124 grain hollow points. I also carry a fully loaded 9mm, with the same ammo. Wild dogs will get short shift. While I love dogs, I will not tolerate an aggressive dog. As for people that mistreat or dump animals, I agree with OG.

OK people, this is NOT a parody piece. So help me God, I'm at least being quasi-serious here.

When I saw the first headline, I thought B### Sh##! Is this article date April the first?!

This occurred back in 2014, nevertheless ... the implications are earthshattering.

I just can't believe this myself, but ...

    "Chihuahuas Rampage in Arizona"

    https://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2014/02/chihuahuas-rampage-in-arizona/

"Chihuahuas are on the loose in an Arizona neighborhood and flooding animal control offices with reports of the roaming strays.

"The short-legged dogs have infested Maryvale, a section of Phoenix."

    upload_2021-8-15_17-30-40.png

    upload_2021-8-15_17-35-39.png

"Packs Of Chihuahuas Terrorize Arizona Neighborhood, Chase Kids"

"Packs of Chihuahuas are terrorizing an Arizona neighborhood, running through the streets and chasing kids.

"Stray Chihuahuas are going wild in Maryvale, a neighborhood in Phoenix, Fox’s KSAZ reported. The dogs are traveling in groups of 10 to 15.

“'It makes it hard for the kids because they get chased down all the time when they’re riding their little bikes,” a resident told KSAZ. “And also the people that ride their cars. [The dogs] are always running after the cars and some of them get run over.'

"Chihuahuas are known to exhibit aggressive behavior despite their small size, according to Animal Planet. Despite weighing around 6 pounds, they have been known to go up against much larger dogs.

"Last year, a 6-year-old girl wound up in the hospital after being attacked by a pack of Chihuahuas in Oregon, KPTV reported."

Will a 20 ga suffice? 12 ga with 3 1/2" shells? What to do?! What to use?!

Me, I think Chihuahuas are great ... for skeet shooting. Why waste perfectly good clays?

LOL, I have known two chihuahuas well and they were on the opposite end of the spectrum. One was a sweet if somewhat timid little critter that spent a lot of time quivering. The other was the meanest little turd that I have ever seen. I would have pinched his little head right off if he were mine. On top of being a biter he tore up or crapped on everything that he could reach.

I think that most types of dogs have a lot of variation but well bred dogs will generally fall into a group that is smaller than angel to Satan himself. The fact is that every dog that I have eve had was taught manners. I had the sweetest kid friendly black chow you have ever seen and they are not known for being all that friendly.

The thing is that many dogs are from species bred for specific work and that heritage isn’t always adaptable to them being all that friendly. I have had two BIG malamute huskies and they were both sweet and even tempered. That is what their type were bred to be. Working class dogs are useless if they are too aggressive and can’t get along with other animals and people.

The one dog that I have had that was from a breed of dogs that was “designed” and bred to be people animals was Boston Terriers. I’ve had three and they are just sweet animals and fun pets for kids and adults alike as long as you like an active dog. They are silly and fun to watch and play with. They tend to be natural born entertainers.

I currently have one mutt terrier and one tiny yorkie that I SHOULD have named Cugette after Cujo the mean ass movie dog. She really isn’t all that mean but she thinks that she is!

Horrible event in the news concerning a dog attack. Note to any of our site visitors to take into consideration dog packs post-SHTF. Game wardens will tell you that dog packs are already a problem in many states here in America. In some states, wild dog packs kill more deer than do hunters. When people can't afford to feed their dogs, instead of putting them down, they will take their dog out into the wilderness and turn it out imagining that it will somehow make it on its own. Of course, >95% of them die ... but, some do not. They get mean. Some dog packs will pick up new members instead of killing them. Thus, dog packs grow and season by season, they get meaner and meaner. Rest assured that post-SHTF, dog packs will be a very serious issue -- more so than they already are.

wild dog packs arent an issue here in the UK, at the moment, although I have been attacked by a loose dog once or twice in the past, the worst result was usually ripped trousers, but post SHTF they will definitely be an issue, the smaller lap dog type breeds wont survive for long but its the larger breeds which will be dangerous, the Pit Bull and German Shepherd type sizes, these can be dealt with with a decent firearm or a crossbow and the meat will be a welcome addition to the menu.

First, I love dogs and have owned them in the past. With that being said, I will not hesitate to shoot an attacking / aggressive dog. From the time I get up to the time I go to bed, I am armed. Humans are not the only critters we have to watch out for.

Really tired; going to bed. Quick thoughts.

Post SHTF, best have repeating shotgun, pump or semi-auto. If you see a pack, you must immediately open fire. Can happen, but if you are looking at them and they are looking at you, you are being sized-up. Time to fire! Do NOT wait!. Any hesitation could me fatal injuries for you. Empty your shotgun into them, drop the shotgun, open up with your high-capacity handgun. If they are on you, keep on shooting. May not sound safe, but you are now in for a fight to keep yourself alive and to reduce major injuries.

This is the reason for high-capacity magazines.

"This is rare. Won't happen to me." Too bad, so sad, it has happened to very many people. Post SHTF, there will be packs of dogs and swarms of rats.

Use smaller buckshot for dogs. They may not require 00 buckshot AND the more pellets, the more strikes. Dump the shotgun into them, then go for your sidearm. You will NOT have the ability to use a speed-loader for a revolver when attacked. Best to have a semi-auto with as many rounds as possible in extended magazines. "Flying ashtrays" will be needed.

And yes, an AR-15 or Ak-47 style rifle with long magazines would come in handy. You will have to aim -- even in the middle of a life-or-death, "milliseconds-count", fight for your life. Dogs are FAST. Everyone has seen them fight. It's hell. I've been climbed by dogs. I've been bitten through the web of my hand. I've been bitten through a finger, turning the nail black. A dog can hit you almost as fast as a snake.

Dog pscks just are not an issue here. If you get a pack causing problems then you just get out the deer rifle and go hunting. I have lived in the country for most of my adult life and one of the problems is that city asshats tend to dump their unwanted dogs in the rural areas. These dogs can't hunt, they don't know how.

When they get hungry enough they go after livestock. Livestock is like the dogs only on the opposet end of things. they are not good at defendng themselves because they don't need to. Over the years I have had to hunt and eliminate packs several times. A feral dog is a problem on so many levels. They harm livestock and can be rabies carriers. Once they go feral they can even be dangerous to adult humans.

Lots of domestic animals can go feral and be mean as hell. I had some feral hogs put me in a pond one time. Where I live hogs are a problem...and a resource. A lot of deer hunters kill a hog to go with their deer to the butcher. That gives them the steaks and maybe the roasts off the deer and then everything else goes with the hog to make sausage. GOOD stuff!!!
