    Good afternoon all,

    Per ...

Sec Wolf has an essay in the Federalist link above.

Good background on what US represented to the world in 1776.

A technical matter; It's really not correct to say that the colonial militiamen and sailors were low tier. Actually, they were top tier for the conflict. George Washington had 14 generals who were combat veterans from the French and Indian Wars. The ~ 200,000 total militia men were older than the typical soldier - and had beer guts ... probably stout or grog; not actual beer - all experienced with the terrain. The sailors - not even hinting they could do much damage to the RN - were skilled in amphib warfare and navigating the coast and inland waters.

Even if much mythology with our holiday, it's still a major event in world history. The US revolution was really just a colonial aspect of Pitt and Wolf in UK finally getting Parliamentary government.
