https://www.scmp.com/news/world/art...e-aircraft-industrys-first-coronavirus-victim Good evening all, Per ... The pandemic accelerates the A380 leaving the scene. Article tells of readjustments to fleets.
The whole premise of a HUGE full double deck airliner itself was already dead since the launch of twin engine long range airliner such as B777 thus enabling long haul (intercontinental) direct flight feasible. Although A380 is a marvel of aeronautic engineering by itself, the type was already dead from the start. I'm not even sure if the traditional long haul route such as JFK - LHR still yield enough to justify the cost of operating any quad engine airliner (B747 or A380). Many other long haul route that was originally served using B747 has already switch to B777 for some time.
Good morning Varuna, Yes, the cost factor determined this. The SST, eg Concorde, was the initial alert about costs.
