Yeah, that is kind of interesting; the fact that we generally need a full ton of food a year to survive. I just think at a certain point, if you have to survive for a year in an apocalyptic scenario, that you will just be miserable for other reasons and not really want to live. If you are planning to form a colony, and the catastrophic impact is not so bad in your isolated area; then it may be worth considering a realistic blueprint for becoming self-sufficient once again.
