This Apple watch feature "sends out an alert if the wearer is immobile for 60 seconds after a fall".

Of course, the presumption is that those alerted are prepared to respond. Spokane is a small city. Large cities are currently overwhelmed with all kinds of emergencies and have limited professional staff and equipment/supplies.

Note that the bicyclist's emergency costs are transferred to the public sector.

I personally do not like to rely on gadgets for disaster preparedness.

 

I would never own such a device. Phones are bad enough, but at least I can turn them off and take out the battery if going somewhere I don't want TPTB knowing about. IMO, that watch is just 1 step from an implanted tracking device. No thanks.

 

Sounds like a useful device for sheeple living in urban areas.

How about a "knock-out game" detector? User hits ground and doesn't get back up -- device calls both 911 and notifies neurosurgery at nearest hospital.

"Police in Omaha have arrested one of the individuals seen brutally punching a 76-year-old woman in a video that went viral earlier this week.

"The incident occurred last Sunday morning at St. Cecilia’s Cathedral. The elderly lady is seen on a security camera picking up a pamphlet before she is blindsided by two thugs, one of whom steals her purse. The other individual then punches the woman full force in the head. She collapses to the ground and subsequently had to be taken to hospital.

"After tips poured in from the public, police arrested 22-year-old Wayman Clark, the individual seen throwing the punch in the video. The man who stole the woman’s bag remains at large.

"Clark was recognized by the police gang unit because they had encountered him just days before. Court records show that the suspect has a lengthy list of minor arrests. Clark’s mother was also arrested for harboring a fugitive."

Yeah, sure. If it can do this, it isn't a child.
