As per article, "gray zone" = hybrid warfare.

Note "His hope ...... budget request".

It's those darn revanchist states !

The term "very cost effective" requires much of this gray zone work to be performed by others not in the military.

 

Good article worth the read. I would think some of the mentioned "grey zone" activities are playing out in front of our eyes here across the US.

 

I can't read that article due to my multi layer of ad blockers. Anyway might as well rephrasing it as "Private Contractor"

Completely agree !

The military, as structured and staffed now, cannot address the requirements for this type of warfare.

At some point on the calender, the contractors will be converted to become the senior members of the new military forces.

 

What I'm reading comes across as the "Gray zone" being the new term for black ops. Combination of CIA (and other intelligence agencies), those agencies direct action participants (contractors) and special operations forces (SF, SEALS, Rangers, Marine Recon and others) as well as light infantry.
