In the West, mass shootings are now >95% copy-cat killings. These happen in countries with profoundly strict gun control laws. There's even been a shooting/stabbing spree that happened in Japan. If people who suffer from certain types of psychosis are not hospitalized and their blood levels of psychiatric medications are not monitored, then the risk to society and the patients themselves goes through the roof. Societies -- capitalist or socialist, doesn't matter -- have always provided facilities for people who were mentally incapable of taking care of themselves.

Speaking of America, those who in times past would have been hospitalized are now out on the streets dying of exposure, drug abuse, and violence. The American Civil Liberties Union routinely sues state agencies to get these patients released onto the streets. The ACLU hates conservative governments who wish to house these patients and in getting these people released, the ACLU gets them killed. Sometimes the paranoid schizophrenics watch mass killers getting a lot of national media coverage and decide to get on TV themselves.

"When officers rushed to the scene, the suspect fired something resembling a hunting rifle, striking four people, before barricading himself inside a building, the official added. "

Quite frankly, the only way to stop mass shootings, stabbings and other heinous acts would be to totally obliterate mankind. Oh, wait, isn't that what we're preparing for? There are some pluses then.

Seriously though. I don't agree with Australia's gun laws 100%. I am grateful that we don't have a lot of nutters running around shooting in gangs, mass school shootings, and the like here though. In fact, I'm grateful that I can go wherever I like at whatever time and not be fearful. For that, I'm incredibly grateful. Sure, I may become a statistic but it's unlikely. I'm more likely to die from a heart attack or cancer. But yes, that may well change with time. The crime I mean. And probably the heart attack or cancer, now that I think about it.

Former Rep. Liz Cheney’s January 6 Committee suppressed evidence that President Donald Trump pushed for 10,000 National Guard troops to protect the nation’s capital, a previously hidden transcript obtained by The Federalist shows.

Cheney and her committee falsely claimed they had “no evidence” to support Trump officials’ claims the White House had communicated its desire for 10,000 National Guard troops. In fact, an early transcribed interview conducted by the committee included precisely that evidence from a key source. The interview, which Cheney attended and personally participated in, was suppressed from public release until now.

Deputy Chief of Staff Anthony Ornato’s first transcribed interview with the committee was conducted on January 28, 2022. In it, he told Cheney and her investigators that he overheard White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows push Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser to request as many National Guard troops as she needed to protect the city.

He also testified President Trump had suggested 10,000 would be needed to keep the peace at the public rallies and protests scheduled for January 6, 2021. Ornato also described White House frustration with Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller’s slow deployment of assistance on the afternoon of January 6, 2021.

Not only did the committee not accurately characterize the interview, they suppressed the transcript from public review. On top of that, committee allies began publishing critical stories and even conspiracy theories about Ornato ahead of follow-up interviews with him. Ornato was a career Secret Service official who had been detailed to the security position in the White House.

However, transcripts of fewer than half of the 1,000 interviews the committee claims it conducted are posted on that site. It is unclear how many of the hidden transcripts include exonerating information suppressed by the committee.

Those documents support the committee’s narrative rather than the truth of the events leading up to January 6, 2021, said Rep. Barry Loudermilk, chairman of the House Administration’s Subcommittee on Oversight.

“The former J6 Select Committee apparently withheld Mr. Ornato’s critical witness testimony from the American people because it contradicted their pre-determined narrative. Mr. Ornato’s testimony proves what Mr. Meadows has said all along: President Trump did in fact offer 10,000 National Guard troops to secure the U.S. Capitol, which was turned down,” said the Georgia Republican.

His subcommittee is reviewing the work of the January 6 committee, which has been accused of other unethical behavior at the expense of accuracy, as well as collusion with other Democrat efforts to prosecute political opponents.

“This is just one example of important information the former Select Committee hid from the public because it contradicted what they wanted the American people to believe,” Loudermilk said. “And this is exactly why my investigation is committed to uncovering all the facts, no matter the outcome.”

The U.S. Postal Service rarely denies requests from police and federal agents looking for information displayed on letters and packages — without a court order.

The Washington Post reported Postal Service officials have gotten more than 60,000 such requests since 2015; 97% of them were approved. Records show postal inspectors recorded more than 312,000 letters and packages between 2015 and 2023, the outlet reported.

Known as the "mail covers program," the surveillance technique is used by postal inspectors to help track down suspects or evidence — and it’s legal, the Post reported. They only share what’s seen on the outside of the mail. The Fourth Amendment requires them to get a warrant to look inside.

Federal agencies, and state and local police forces made an average of about 6,700 requests a year, the Post reported.

Barksdale [chief postal inspector] told the senators in a June 2023 letter the program was not a “large-scale surveillance apparatus” and focused only on mail that could help police and national security agencies “carry out their missions and protect the American public," the outlet reported.

Wyden [Ron Wyden, D-Ore] wasn’t convinced.

“New statistics show that thousands of Americans are subjected to warrantless surveillance each year, and that the Postal Inspection Service rubber stamps practically all of the requests they receive,” he charged, according to the Post.
