Yes, insurance costs are going to rise as climate change progresses. We can no longer insure our cottage because it is timber clad & timber frame. The last hail storm wrecked the vehicles & the house & cottage roof. The insurance company refused to pay for the cottage roof!

    Good morning Keith,

In "pure" market economics, if a company doesn't want payment for premiums for an insurance contract, then the reason is that a risk is not involved. It's a guarantee of ca strophe. The wood house is dangerous. It's the same here, less the hidden governmental subsidies.

In California, large amounts of taxes are collected but the state government spends the money on the coastal areas where the residents return some money to these politicians via "campaign contributions". California's not really working risk management. It's a scheme - and visible to those who look.

Soon, the area I'm in will empty of residential dwellings. The artificial flood "insurance" is closing down. This affects me and why part of my prepper activity accepts that my shack here - my actual BOP - is not even a risk; it is a castrophe waiting to happen if occupied.

If there was real market economic activity here, the disaster losses would be minimal. Who the hades has a dwelling on a tidal flood plain or an overgrown forest ?!

I would really like to see more than one newspaper article about this before making a decision, but it is California, so it really doesn't affect me.

“It is flat-out wrong to assume the governor, insurance commissioner and state treasurer are not capable of designing and researching various insurance options without being somehow scammed by the insurance industry,” Mark DeSio, a spokesman for Ma, said in a statement.

This statement is laughable. The only people being scammed are the people of California who would allow three bureaucrats this much power. By the way why do the State Treasurer and the Insurance Commissioner need a spokesperson?
