Can You Eat Acorns?

White oak acorns are much less bitter than red oak. Deer have the same opinion.
Red oak leaves have the pointy ends.
White oak leaves have the rounded ends.




Red oaks produce more acorns, so deer will go to them after they have finished off the white. Learning forest mast will guide your hunting plans.

You can repetitively soak and or boil them and reduce the tannin content by leaching it out then roast them and make a flour. Without that they are extremely bitter. White oaks are less bitter and there are some varieties that are so mild that they can be eaten raw. Native Americans used to have wars over possession of groves of such trees.
