Interested in survival topics and prepping as this is hurricane country and it is good to be prepared well ahead of events and the crowds.

Have mechanical skills as well as some electrical skills and some hand fabrication to go along with them.

Sorry, but I don't know anything specific about prepping for hurricanes. Carpentry-wise if you are going to board-up windows and doors, use porch decking screws. They'll hold when nails would be pulled out. Plus, these screws can be readily backed out when the winds have passed and you are taking your panels down.
