When it comes to cooking food in the wild, it is not as hard as one might think. Cooking over an open fire can present a bit of a challenge. However, this challenge can be met with some basic knowledge in a few common things found just about anywhere. When cooking over an open fire, you can do this a few ways. One is to find a screen to place over your fire to put your pots and pans or food that you're cooking directly on. An old oven rack, piece of chain link fence, shopping cart, or other metal objects that can be used to keep items from falling through into the fire works great. Should you not have these items available to you, you can also use stones.

By placing large stones in a fire, you can set your pots or pans on to your stones after they become hot. This gives you a surface that will prevent what you are cooking from falling into the fire. Last but not least perhaps you do not have a fire around or a way to start one and need to cook. Remember you can always use reflective light from the sun to cook. A mirror or large piece of glass tends to amplify the heat of the sun. This magnifying effect can be used to cook food much the same way it can be used to start a fire. These are just simple ideas, but sometimes those are the ones that resonate the most in our minds. The more knowledge you have, the better, you will be prepared for a survival situation.
