Greetings fellow preppers.
I hope my message finds you healthy and prepared. Here in South Africa , state news reports 202 cases with no fatalities. That is a 25 % climb since yesterday. I do not believe the figures, and from past experience with my governments ineptitude, I believe they are far worse.

 

Sadly I'm not currently in healthy condition (both physically & mentally), I also totally unprepared for global rampaging plague

I do not see any motive for any government to conceal the true figure of COVID-19 infection and doing so will be counterproductive for the government in question.

The main reason the figures could be worse than what has been published is because the health service are either still waiting test result (if its using genome sequencing before announcing), or they still running contacts tracking of the known COVID-19 patient. Either way it takes time and assiduous efforts.

Thank you for well wishes. Ditto the same to you and family / group.

Am prepared and health is working - have vital signs - and can drive - after 7 decades.

Here, too, the public info is different than what's going on. It doesn't matter. The Prepper's preparedness and response is about the same whether it's a pandemic, a pandemic during a hurricane or beer is rationed.

Here is one motive: To prevent mass panic caused by mass fear.

It will not be counterproductive to a national government because there are national and regional political factions exploiting the pandemic.

Test results are not always an indicator of infection with the coronavirus. Some humans, to include young people, are vectors without symptoms.

Greetings fellow preppers, and thank you all for taking the time to respond to my post. Today, (28 march 2020), my government quotes 1178 cases of the virus, and 1 death. To put things into perspective, one needs to understand what living in a third world country entails. Two days ago, South Africa was downgraded by Moodeys to junk status. This means that we are no longer considered safe for foreign investment. We are the AIDS and tuberculosis capital of the world, are approaching a 40% unemployment rate, our crime statistics for rape and murder place us in the top 10 worldwide. Our infrastructure is imploding, and electricity from the state supplier ESCOM is on the point of collapse. I am not prone to exaggeration and my statements are easily corroborated by a simple web search from sources of your choice. Some years ago our government ceased releasing accurate crime statistics. I for one, have absolutely no confidence in the corrupt ruling party as well as the idiots who keep them in power. It is with certain smugness that I hope nature does a proper job in cleaning up the cesspool that is South Africa.

When in high school, had learned that RSA was Africa's second richest country next to richest Rhodesia. What happened ? Were there political changes ?

Yes Tsavo, it's a great shame South Africa has gone downhill to such an extent. I was born in South Africa but my father foresaw the chaos that would become South Africa, so moved to Australia. My sister recently moved to Spain from South Africa. It is a country she loved but had become increasingly unstable.

 

God's blessings be upon your father in the next world. His foresight has been a beacon of light to his family. Many in the West forget that untold numbers of white S.Africans are trapped in that country. They do not have the money to resettle in civilized countries. Many thousands of farmers have been killed. Couple the loss of industrial age farming with drought and you get the very real potential for mass famine.

In the West, the mainstream media covers-up the grotesque mismanagements of the South African "government". The MSM covers-up the plight of land-holders because the MSM is composed of collectivists. Native Africans take over farmlands (whose owners have been driven off) and will not or cannot learn modern farming techniques that maintain production levels sufficient to feed a nation.
