    https://www.livescience.com/6-new-coronaviruses-found-bats.html

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day, who said he found it extremely unusual the amount of dead bats he was coming across going on his usual walks. He mentioned that he sometimes saw one or two at the most, but lately he's been coming across a dozen or so at a time.

Although he doesn't follow the coronavirus specifically he was concerned with such a number of bats dying and wondered why. I wonder if there could be some sort of link to this pandemic we're currently experiencing.

    Yes, will do, thanks Varuna.

We have a particularly nasty virus disease in bats that's virulent in Aus. Don't know if it's in the US.

Where I am, if I leave my bedroom doors open, microbats fly in. Drives the dog nuts. The bats then fly round and round in circles. They are really hard to catch. The only way to get them out is to wait until they stop flying and find a beam to sit on then throw a towel over them, or leave the door open and wait for them to fly out again.

The bat echolocation (sonar) is what annoy the dog. We (human) can't hear the echolocation because its outside our hearing range, but cat, dog could hear them

BTW is there any presence of barbed wire around those dead bats? Bat echolocation can't detect barbed wire.

That's really interesting varuna. Makes sense why the dog goes ballistic. I hadn't thought of that.

I also didn't realise bats can't detect barbed wire. In answer to your question, no, there was no barbed wire near the dead bats. They were in an open park space.

Just like any other animals (including human) every species use different sensory organ to sense their environment. Just because certain bat able to detect mosquito using their hearing or scent doesn't mean they could use the same organ to safely navigate the terrain. Also keep in mind barbed wire is pretty thin compare to actual terrain obstacle (example : wall)

BTW I never recall or know any bat that preying on insects. Bat around here are either fruit or vampire (blood sucker). I usually eat the fruit bat but never the blood sucker. (we vampire do have code of conduct you know)

Varuna, There is a large number of insect eating bats in your area.
    https://www.ecologyasia.com/verts/bats.htm
Some of the larger bats (flying foxes, Fruit bats, etc.) don't have echo location complex enough to detect wire fences. All smaller bats that eat insects and other small prey items have echo location complex enough to detect even the smallest wires. Most can even detect spider webs.

I have eaten flying foxes (survival school) and know many in Asia still like them in there diet but much of the world does not have that size bats. Most bats in the Americas have at most a 6 inch wingspan and have a body the size of a house mouse or smaller.

Many of the smaller bat species are vectors for disease (primarily rabies, etc.) but are not considered palatable. The coronavirus that is the current issue does come from a small species of bat. The wet market in Wuhan that is blamed for this virus is primarily a fish market and the species of bat that host this virus is no where close to this market area.

From what I have seen and read, I believe the bats are being used for political smoke and mirrors. In most American minds, bats are ugly and therefore bad. Makes for a great fall guy.

I eat those fruit bat and those mega size bat (and other jungle venison) even outside jungle survival course :D They taste sweet just like fruit

The choice and the way the 漢族 folk prepare those bat is significantly difference than how its done around here. They don't use much spices (which contain natural antibiotic) and without enough heat to kill off whatever pathogen within the meat. Even the way they prepared snake meat and dog meat is only viable if apply for survival course rather than for normal time meal :(

Well bat do look scary enough not to mention nocturnal and being closely associate with vampire make them great choice for scaring off people.

Glad you have a code of conduct Varuna.;) Bats around here are small and eat flying insects. The mosquito is our State bird so we like bats and leave them alone.

The CCP virus did come from bats. It was then developed, at the bio lab in Wuhan, into a weapon and was released upon the world. The CCP tried to hide the nature of the virus and tried to convince all nations to not prepare adequately for it.

Once it got loose in China, they knew they had an economic disaster ahead, so they deliberately allowed it to spread to other countries. They could not afford to be the only economy / country effected. Destroy all other economies, to maintain power standing. They are now trying to control the investigation and investigation narrative. Once there is enough proof most, if not all, of their assets in other countries are going to be seized and that is their biggest nightmare.

Either that or they were going to loose so bad in the trade negotiations that they decided to attack the world economy by releasing this bioweapon, hoping to come out on top. They have been saving gold for years for a day like today.

Anyone that buys China made goods is aiding the enemy.

I think the UK/China 5G deal is probably dead in the water, they were restricted to a 30% involvement anyway but I see a lot of MP's now what even that cancelled.
