I do not believe that 2020 statistic as US worst year for deaths. Somewhat recently I posted an article here at MSF titled something like ="= This is the best time in the history of the world to be pregnant="=. It is applicable to US also since US is in the world.

I do not believe that US COVID deaths are the highest in the world. Higher than India's with their 5 X larger population ?! Higher than China's with their 4 X larger population ?!

I do admit to my adverse reaction when reading number "75.1".

Old Gzr: Trach tubes must be perpetually checked. There is an inflatable balloon at the end -- when inflated, this holds in place and seals the tube. Too little pressure = no seal = air blow-by. Too much cuff pressure = no O2 to the tracheal wall mucosa = death of tissue and resulting infection (rot). If the machine's setting for inspiratory pressure (pressure control ventilation) is too high, then the alveoli will die. The alveoli are the tiny air sacs where O2 and CO2 exchange occurs. They are the critical function unit of the lungs.

Intubated patients need routine suction to remove the build-up of mucous. If this is not done, the mucous gets infected or worse, the patient simply drowns.

Patients should be intubated for as short of period of time as possible. There are dozens upon dozens of things to go wrong.
