Determining What's "essential" During Quarantines

    A chocolaterie is essential in Belgium.

    If a hurricane sends a tree into a house wall next to kitchen, arriving at ~ 60 mph, survivors might consider replacement pots and pans to be essential.

    Like some European places considering hairdressers as essential, some here in the Virginia rural areas consider dog groomers also essential. Some infirm with dogs can't monitor and remove ticks, excess fur - and they need comfort companion.

    Can't speak for the Europe situation but here, preparedness for quarantines is minimal, at most.

    I don't see there is any industry that can be reliably call as "non essential" From the very start of human civilization there is strong interdependency between one another and more importantly between type of industry. Although if there are few industry that could be shutdown during this plague, all the rest are essential. Agriculture produce couldn't be distribute without automotive which in turn need fuel & spare parts, while petroleum industry also need other supporting industries to produce fuel, etc, etc

    in Britain we have just started a months lockdown/quarantine.
    nothing to do with this or that "industry", its about peoples movements.
    as far as essential items are concerned here its food, medical help or prescription drugs, to be a carer for someone, or for daily exercise. filling stations will remain open as will supermarkets and food shops, restaurants cafe's and pubs can stay open but only to do take away meals, sit down meals are banned. people can go to work but only if they cant work from home. at all other times people must remain at home.
