Mainly I am posting this to see if our Canada or Alaska members have any suggestions . My group is sitting on one of the most survivable spots in the lower 48 of the United States , with isolation , spring , creek and wild game . we are very well prepared for most scenarios . The unlikely but possible scenario of the U.S. falling to communism this November has us looking at another tactic . --- Buying another parcel of land and establishing a secondary fall back position in an even more remote location perhaps in Alaska or Canada . We had a meeting yesterday and are pooling our money and exploring possible fall back positions . We plan to contact a realtor in Alaska tomorrow . If we pull off a land purchase we plan to occupy the property next spring and start building a log cabin if there is enough timber on the property to do so . We have 4 people ready to strike out and start building but expect that number to increase before next spring . ---- This may sound a little crazy and that is probably because we may be crazy . Our 17 year old group member finished high school at 16 years old and is getting ready to start taking flying lessons within the next few months with the plan to buy an used airplane within the next three years . He is presently cowboying on a cattle ranch and will be contributing to buying the new survival retreat . If things get too sideways we will be able to hopefully step into our own airplane and evacuate the lower 48 .

Hold off on any land purchase. If Biden wins, the economy will tank and so will land prices. If Trump wins, you will have more time to get the land you will need or want for the future. JM2C

For those with pilot experience . We have our eye on a parcel of land with a lake they claim is small but is capable for a float plane to land on . What kind of airplane would be good for taking off or landing on a small lake ?

Here is my feeling. I have NOT thought this out. I'm getting ready to go fix me a sandwich, work outside in this death heat, whatever ... . I feel like you guys have hit gold where you are. If you have resources, continue to solidify what you have now. God has blessed y'all.

Why do you you think Alaska would be safer? Alaska once belonged to Russia. America ripped them off to acquire ALL of that land. The Russian military would like to have it back. 2021, 2022, 2023, ... we could be in a nuclear war with Russia and rest assured that Alaska will become a battleground. When researching Alaska, make sure you take into consideration the nuclear fallout maps for Alaska. Remember, the Jarrett/Obama administration was cutting military spending at the fastest rate they could without setting off alarms. Valery f###ed the U.S. military good and hard. Brain-dead Biden is a puppet like Obama; that crew gets into office and America's armed services will be raped which puts Alaska at risk. I guess there are plenty of safe places in Alaska, but not if war raises its ugly head.

So there's my "one fellow's opinion". I have to say that Alaska is beautiful beyond words.

    P. I have thought a lot about this scenario. Unfortunately, I don't have the finances to buy land in Alaska so I'm considering other options. If the 2nd A falls, the country is fallen and it's either time to fight or time to go. So if the border is breachable going out. Then I'll my try my hand at aquaponics in the tropics. Prawn stir fry is pretty awesome.

My only worry is my girls (mostly the wife).

I can't / won't live where the white fluffy stuff floats around. If the Socialist take power, I plan to place an advertisement someplace like Craigs list and have a record that I sold ALL my firearms for cash, along with all my reloading equipment and of course all my ammo. Any and all government records will then be null and void. Gray man is the new life style. Maybe form a one man resistance group. Arrange for a few liberal / socialist government employee's to have accidents. Just the wild ramblings of an old guy.

I wish I had more to contribute, but here is the little I can say.

There is a couple that moved from Texas to Alaska, to a fly in fly out homestead. She has written a book on their experiences but I haven't read it, I do follow their blog/Facebook posts on their adventures and adjustments which are often very interesting. Hopefully helpful for anyone looking to go so remote you need a float plane to get there in summer.

There are huge areas of Canada, for example in British Columbia or Labrador where you can just walk into the forest and never be found again. But in reality that is not easy or safe. There are plenty of places so remote you either fly in or use ice roads in winter. But the winters are very very long. I would love to be so remote but I always weigh the safety of being away from humans vs my ability to grow, hunt and forage a sustainable balanced diet here in the more southern regions of Canada. It is by no means impossible. One just has to read Alaskajohns (hope that's the right spelling)posts to know you can. But does need a special type of people to succeed and a whole lot of knowledge that I still need to acquire.

Best choice Piper (PA-18-150) also known as "Supercub". I have own two, and spent two decades as a commercial pilot flying Supercubs and Cessna's for hunting and/or fishing guide operations. We operate on floats, wheels, skis, and Federal hydraulic wheel-skis.

Also Cessna 18o or C-185 or C-206 will each get it done. If you have bigger loads, a "BEAVER" or "OTTER".

I have flown several planes from the lower-48 to Alaska and back, ferrying aircraft for other people and myself. That is "Not" something inexperienced pilots should attempt, especially with passengers. It is not like flying in the lower-48 where you can follow roads and landing fields are abundant. At the very least, he would want to be instrument rated, and in an IFR equipped aircraft.

The common excuse I hear for not having a survival retreat is " I don't have enough money " . That could be so but I can honestly say this , the majority of my working jobs , pay was so low I was qualified for government assistance " food stamps " . I know what poor is . Yet we saved done without many things that we would have liked to have had or been able to do . But we planned and sacrificed and eventually bought that survival retreat in another state . There we flourished and are not so poor anymore . ---- This thread was presented sincerely . As I type this one of our survival group members is making arrangements to fly to Alaska to work a job and scout for a secondary survival retreat . I just got off the phone with an real estate agent in Alaska . No we don't have much money . I don't know if our entire group could pass the hat and gather 5,000 dollars . But what we do have is each other that work as a unit to reach a goal . If we want it I know we can make it happen . We are sort of like the borg on " star Trek " . ----- Our main scenario concern is that " one day " the democrats will get someone into the U. S. White House . To our way of thinking that means the U.S. has fallen to Communism forever . Granted Alaska is part of the U.S. but it has some very isolated places . --- We also will not be taking Bill Gates mark " mark of the beast ".

Another site for research in addition to the excellent site sourdough listed is the small cabin forum. https://www.small-cabin.com/forum/
It’s not survival oriented and is not Alaska oriented, but there are a lot of off grid Alaskans posting about life in the Bush.

If you get to the point of needing to build or retrofit a structure, check out the cold climate housing design and research center in Fairbanks. They have been wonderful to work with in retrofitting my old Alaskan homestead. Some great documents and resources about buildings that work in our harsh environment.

Check out the Alaska List real estate section. https://alaskaslist.com/-3/posts/12_Real_Estate/. The recreational and acreage subsections have a good representation of prices. I was going to link what I considered a great bug out property just above your price point but it was gone when I just looked! Remember, if it’s labeled “remote” you are going to need that airplane to get to it! The one I was going to link needed a good skiff to get up river.

There are some good books I could recommend that speak a bit to some of the challenges you might face.

When I travel around the state, particularly when I was looking for my bug out property when I first got here, I would stop off and check the bulletin boards in the small communities at gas stations, grocery stores, etc. I would often find very intriguing properties not listed on any online sites or agencies. Your friend who comes up might want to do this.

    good luck!

That sounds like a property that I was in discussion with through a real estate realtor last week . We still have not ruled the property out but are reluctant to buy property we have never seen . Still that property is under consideration . A airplane or skiff access is just the sort of property we are interested in .

A couple of my group is today traveling through Colorado heading toward Montana and Idaho with a secondary objective of searching for a secondary fallback position . Honestly if we establish a secondary position it would be as much as a vacation type property as a fall back position . I and my other group members actually enjoy prepping and we have already done every practical thing we can conceive in our preps at our present location . It would be fun for us to start over from nothing and do it again . Our 17 year old member starts flight training on the 15 of this month with the goal of having a commercial flying license in about two years . So before Donald Trump 's second term expires in about four and a half years we plan to have a bug out airplane on standby . That will give us flexibility as where to bug out to as the situation dictates . -- From my past experience of having to go deep into the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to rescue some people , a airplane to rescue someone would be a lot safer than ground travel . Several of our members work in various for off states and move about a lot as work dictates . It would be nice to be able in just a matter of hours to be able to land an aircraft pick them up and pop out .

Check northern Idaho. Beautiful, isolated and plenty of natural resources.

Just an update on our secondary survival fall back position. Our chosen pilot is now flying and is doing excellent . I went to the airport to watch him fly yesterday . That is perhaps the happiest kid I ever saw . All his instructors are very impressed with him and his calm demeanor other than having a grin from ear to ear as his instructor told me . They even did an unusal thing on his second day of flying and let him cut the throttle back and go straight up until the plane stalled out and pitched back down earthward , then cranked the engine back up . Our 17 year old to be pilot loved it . I took " Sourdoughs " advice seriously and our plan is to have our pilot to get his private , commercial and instructor license . -- We are now in the process of trying to decide on the best route in regard to an airplane purchase . One of my survival retreat members may have found us an isolated parcel of land for sale close to a dirt airstrip . It is very unlikely we would ever have to evacuate our well prepared survival retreat that we now occupy but as a serious prepper " I prepare " .

An fallback position for our group is now established . We now have a camper set up on the property . The property has a good year around spring on it and is in a very remote location .--- We are still also working toward an air evacuation plan but that will take a few more years to complete . Realistic though it would take something like a Full Foreign invasion to make us evacuate our present survival retreat . --- Truthfully we just like prepping .

i have 3 fall back positions one about 15 miles away and one about 80 miles away and one at 30 miles away, reality is though mother probably could only get to the 15 mile one at best it looks more and more as if i'll make a last stand at our current location for whatever event happens....

Due to age, infirmities and medical conditions, there will not be any bug out. It will be Alamo time for us. I could not walk or carry anything for any length of distance. With what we could carry, we would last maybe 24 hours. Just not viable. I would booby-trap the war room (where the firearms and ammo is stored) and that will deal with taking out the trash after we are over run. Either we win or everybody goes with us.

Our 17 year old student airplane pilot had to land his airplane tonight on a dark unlit runway as someone at the small airport he was coming into forgot to turn on the runway lights and went home . He brought it in flawlessly . He is so far ahead of the rest of his class that he will finish up this semester and have to take some weeks off while the rest of the class catches up . The plan is for me to take him to the state Capitol City next week for him to take a test for his pilot license . --- With the U.S. potentially going communist under the Biden / Harris reign , I am glad we are working toward the possibility of escaping the communist tyranny by air .
