FBI To Ramp Up Social Media Surveillance

The FBI plans to step up its efforts to gather information from social media - issuing a call last week for a new tool to monitor Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other platforms "in a timely fashion."



Citing the use of social media by terrorist groups, domestic threats, criminal organizations and foreign intelligence services, the FBI "needs near real time access to a full range of social media exchanges in order to obtain the most current information available," according to the request for proposal.

In addition to information such as user IDs, the feds are interested in "emails, IP addresses, telephone numbers, and likely aliases" used over social media. The tool would also allow for location-based tracking, persistent keyword monitoring, and access to one's personal social media history.

The FBI has justified the tool by claiming it is in response "to an increasing number of threats to U.S. national interests that are identifiable, with ever-greater frequency, through social media platforms."

They have been monitoring this forum from the beginning . It is nothing I worry about . I have seen a nut on another forum that went to raving about killing politicins then abruptly disappeared . They are all the time looking for nuts like that .

 

I (and many others) have left forums because of crap like this.

True, but even speculating on doing such a thing has been known to draw unnecessary attention to a forum and its members, which is one of the reasons why things like that are against the rules on most sites.

That is a really slippery slope. All the best intentions are categorized as " for National Security". How could anybody argue with that? They will compile massive data banks on every single user that can and will be used against them. The last administration did it already.

One side of me says don't tie law enforcement's hands when they are trying to stop terrorist threats. The other side says they are invading privacy far beyond what they should be allowed.

Like Lonewolf, I don't use Social Media. If I wasn't required to have it for work I wouldn't even be on it. There used to be an old guide line that we followed for business ethics: If you wouldn't want it published on the front page of the newspaper then don't do it. I would use this same standard for Social Media.

 

I left social media years ago because of the idiots posting there and because of the oppressive nature of the surveillance that already existed. This only reinforces my decision to stay away.

 

Don't worry, Big Brother is there to protect you. They'll even protect you from yourself. They are in charge. Don't worry. All is well. Big Brother is going to fight crime before crimes are committed.

'They' have always monitored groups but these days they have better tools to do so. Remember that this is an open forum and even if a post is deleted its too late, the post is there somewhere on the net to be found.

 

There are only two forms of government. Ones where the people fear the government and ones where the government fears the people. Sacred Liberty requires that those in government fear the people.

 

The US Department of Justice has clearly been shown to have been compromised by the body politic....and heavily corrupted by politics...and the FBI falls under the Department of Justice.

And so too it is and has been for years and years now with the US State Department.

And now under the Biden Administration...the Ishmaelite Herding techniques of Marxism is being infiltrated into the US Military/Department of Defense ranks...so be warned of the Ishmaelites who have been working diligently to spread this cancer across this nation and government to turn it into their private fiefdom....and away from Constitutional protections and into a private political/social extension of the left.

Heavy handed officialdom/government may fear the reaction of the people en mass but the government suppresses or manipulates it's citizens on a more individual basis, much to the citizen's disadvantage. Divide and conquer.
Social media targeted messaging has been used to great effect over the last few years allowing governments to effectively target their lies toward whatever demographic it wishes to...often sending contradictory messages to different portions of the population. Another benefit of this is that much of social media is either transient or can be disowned as a hoax if it's discredited.
I'm betting that this isn't something that the FBI would want to look into though.

 

On the upside, the dollar is going away.

The government not being able to pay its goons is a good thing.
