    Good morning all,

Above tells of a grid hacking report.

    Note the article's "victim utility".

There is a piece of advice worth reflecting on: "Have as few internet facing devices as possible".

I am learning the IT world: a "script kiddie" is an unskilled hacker. What's the difference between getting infected by a surgeon or a street vagrant? between getting shot by an amateur convenience store robber or a professional terrorist ?

At bottom of article is a "sign up" for the org's newsletter.

America's enemies do not have to resort to bombs. They can just go with a hack attack. Recently, we've had some cyber attacks, but they have only been practice runs; when the time comes, our nation's infrastructure is going to get ripped. For years now, firewalls have been put up to prevent this sort of thing; however, our country and America's allies are still massively vulnerable.

    https://www.securityweek.com/cyberattack-forces-shutdown-major-us-pipeline

"A cyberattack has forced an operational shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline, the largest refined products pipeline in the United States.

"The Colonial Pipeline Company said late Friday that it was the victim of a cyberattack, sparking the company to proactively take certain systems offline and temporarily halt all pipeline operations. The company said the attack had impacted some of its IT systems, but did not say if any of its operational technology (OT) systems were directly impacted.

"It's unclear if the incident involved ransomware, or was another form or malware or breach.

"The company has hired a third-party cybersecurity firm which has already launched an investigation into the nature and scope of this incident.

“'Colonial Pipeline is taking steps to understand and resolve this issue,” the pipeline operator said in a statement. 'At this time, our primary focus is the safe and efficient restoration of our service and our efforts to return to normal operation. This process is already underway, and we are working diligently to address this matter and to minimize disruption to our customers and those who rely on Colonial Pipeline.'

"The Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons of fuel daily through a pipeline system that spans more than 5,500 miles between Houston, Texas and Linden, New Jersey."

Several articles are out concerning this most recent attack; here's another article. I've tried avoiding links from the mainstream media, because their information cannot be trusted and because they always toss-in some commie comments. They are the enemies of America, after all.

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ru...e-for-cyberattack-and-not-just-with-sanctions

"Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio took to twitter to Friday to encourage U.S. retaliation against foreign hackers responsible for the massive cyber security breach at top federal agencies.

"He said the U.S. should do more than just enforce sanctions.

"'The methods used to carry out the cyberhack are consistent with Russian cyber operations,' Rubio, acting chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee said in a tweet. 'But it’s crucial we have complete certainty about who is behind this. We can’t afford to be wrong on attribution, because America must retaliate, and not just with sanctions.'

"The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said the attack compromised federal agencies’ "critical infrastructure" in a manner that was hard to detect and will be difficult to undo – leaving the scope of the attack largely undisclosed as of right now.

"'CISA has determined that this threat poses a grave risk to the Federal Government and state, local, tribal, and territorial governments as well as critical infrastructure entities and other private sector organizations,' the alert issued Thursday said. 'CISA expects that removing this threat actor from compromised environments will be highly complex and challenging for organizations.'"

    -----------------------

    Middle East

    https://www.foxnews.com/world/iran-...-as-both-sides-target-critical-infrastructure

The simmering cyber conflict between Iran and Israel reached a boiling point this week as the two enemies have been going tit-for-tat in an effort to quietly take down critical infrastructure that security analysts dub something of an electronic cold war.

“The fact that Iran is behaving so aggressively, and trying to disrupt critical services in Israel, is very disturbing,” David Kennedy, founder/CEO of TrustedSec, and a former hacker for the NSA and U.S. Marine Corps told Fox News. “Any time you have a state actor engaged in industrial sabotage, that is a real cause for concern. When you attack a critical service like water, power, hospitals, or transportation, you are essentially putting lives at risk.

"Last month, Iran fired the first shot by purporting to cyberattack water installations – including tanks, pumps, and pipelines in Israel – raising the alarm among national security and cyber experts over the vulnerability of critical infrastructure."

Cyber attacks are the result of relying on computers to run everything, we have an old saying here "dont put all your eggs in one basket!", once the grid goes down whether thats the power grid or the internet everything will be lost and we are back at least to the Middle ages if not the Stone Age for some.

The ONLY way to deal with bullies is via fear, deep visceral soul-crushing fear.

... this assumes that the hackers were foreign bullies. This pipeline hack could be an "insider job", a deep-state psych-op to get the sheeple ready for much higher prices. The deep state is dynamite at blaming others for their own operations. When it comes to wet jobs, government machines use mentally ill individuals to pull the trigger / set-off the detonator -- yet these gov. machines have their own backup shooters/bombers just in case Mr. Psycho is too screwed-up in the head to "get things right".

losing the grid be that power, fuel, internet or whatever , may affect many who rely on it.
those that can live without it will be the winners in the long run.

A whole lot of new preppers are being generated by civilization's cracking foundation.

What a shame they are so horribly late in deciding to act.

Now, the prices are high and the prepping goods in short supply.

The people who built upon the rock can only bear witness to those who built upon the sand and were washed away.

Time to fire-up the kerosene lantern, toss a blanket across our laps, and open the pages of a good book. The howling winds and mighty thunder will vex us not. Such it is with our lot.

Hackers win (if indeed there existed external hackers).

Future hacking guarantied. Even if this was a deep state ruse, still expect more "hackings" and ever-increasing price hikes. Monster inflation is on its way.

    https://www.breitbart.com/economy/2...ipeline-paid-nearly-5-million-ransom-hackers/

"Colonial Pipeline Co. paid hackers nearly $5 million to free their computer network Friday, despite claims they had no intention of doing so.

"Bloomberg News reported that the company paid the ransom in untraceable cryptocurrency and received a decrypting tool to restore their computer network, according to 'two people familiar with the transaction.' Though the company received a decrypting tool, it ran very slowly according to the report.

"The FBI confirmed Monday that the Darkside ransomware hacker group was responsible for the digital attack on a pipeline providing up to 50 percent of gas on the East Coast. Darkside is believed to operate in Russia and Eastern Europe.

"By Tuesday and Wednesday, many states on the East Coast suffered crippling fuel shortages as President Joe Biden and his administration struggled to respond to the crisis.

"The White House on Monday acknowledged private companies in ransomware situations like Colonial Pipeline Co. sometimes had to pay the fee to hackers."

"Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm on Colonial Pipeline Crisis: If You Drove an Electric Car, ‘This Would Not Be Affecting You’"

    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/...electric-car-this-would-not-be-affecting-you/

Next power grid failure and you'll be riding your bicycles. Power grid failures can last weeks / months -- this, during "good times". My rototiller, chain saw, lawn tractor (attachment-capable), and home electric generator can run on the fuel in my 5 gal. storage tanks out back in the work-shed. I also keep kerosene for my lamps. The work-shed has open vents to dissipate any fumes; however, I smell no fumes, so if there is any leaking, I sure can't tell.

Most all of the power companies and certainly the deep state say that the electric power grid can handle the mass influx of electric cars. This is raw B.S.. America is having power grid issues even now! Add cars and watch what happens. Know also that the size of vehicles will have to shrink down to the size of glorified golf-carts to permit the electric grid to handle their being added to the system. When you charge your car will be important. This will have to happen during non-peak hours or the grid is going to massively overheat. The nuclear plants are going to have to run 24/7.

    https://www.pewtrusts.org/en/resear...lectric-cars-will-challenge-state-power-grids

    --------------

And oh by the way ...

Let's take Virginia as an example of one of the Southeast states heavily affected by this fuel hack attack. Northern Virginia is eaten-up with leftists. In VA, natural gas, a carbon-based fuel (duh!) accounts for 60% of the commonwealth's electrical power generation. Nuclear fuel accounts for 30% of generated power. So, wait a minute here! Aren't liberals anti-nuclear?! Nuclear waste is going to kill everybody, right?! CO2 kills Gaia, right?! God-like renewable energy stands at only 6% of electrical generation in socialist Virginia.

So liberals in Virginia are driving their electric cars on on fossil fuels and evil nuclear power. Of course the Left can't do the math. Electricity is magic. It flows out of those electric sockets, right?! It is clean, supernatural, Gaia-approved. "Don't worry, be happy! God government has it all under control!"

    Here are the numbers:

https://www.eia.gov/state/print.php...urces, primarily biomass, supplied nearly 7%.

"In 2019, natural gas fueled 60% of Virginia's electricity net generation, nuclear power provided almost 30%, renewable resources, primarily biomass, supplied more than 6%, and coal fueled almost 4%."

The attack on the Colonial Pipeline was not the work of Russian hackers. Whoever did it was unsophisticated in how they handled the BitCoin payoff. The Russians would have hidden the transfer of funds in a far more secure fashion. The hack came from withing the US and whoever did it made it easy for the FBI to track and retrieve the Bitcoin funds.

"FBI director warns Chinese hackers aim to 'wreak havoc' on U.S. critical infrastructure"

    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/na...m-wreak-havoc-us-critical-infrastr-rcna136524

"FBI Director Christopher Wray warned about the growing threat of Chinese cyberattacks against U.S. electrical grids and other infrastructure during an appearance Wednesday morning before the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.

“ 'China’s hackers are positioning on American infrastructure in preparation to wreak havoc and cause real-world harm to American citizens and communities, if or when China decides the time has come to strike,' the excerpts of Wray's prepared testimony released by the FBI said.

"Wray also argued that 'there has been far too little public focus' that Chinese hackers are targeting critical infrastructure in the U.S. such as water treatment plants, electrical grids, oil and natural gas pipelines, and transportation systems, according to the prepared remarks."
    ============================================

To this very day, municipalities and even industrial concerns refuse to do the work involved in surrounding their digital control systems with robust firewalls.

Electronic industrial control manufacturers can build products for companies to protect this equipment from EMP sources, but if the companies do not build firewalls around the computer systems to protect them from hackers, then we simply can't help them. This makes me sick. They could ask my oldest son to protect their systems! Holy crap, there are tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, of s/w engineers out there who are very skilled in protection modalities, but companies won't spend the dollars to make this happen. I've worked places where the firewalls were mega-robust. This CAN be accomplished.

A word to the wise: Backup everything needed in your operations. You must be able to wipe your systems, then start afresh. Once worked for a place that not only backed-up everything, they had me take the physical backup modalities to our bank's safety deposit box. That steel vault along with the metal superstructure housing the many and the individual deposit boxes constituted a large and robust Faraday cage.

Once (three decades ago) worked for a company that produced industrial computers with three layers of Faraday cage protection along with ferrite cores throughout. EMP protection, however, means nothing without the software firewalls to defend against the skilled hackers who are out there wishing to perpetually cause harm. One division of the Chinese military is dedicated to hacking. China hacks to steal the work of others and China hacks to do destroy their enemies.

Add former Soviet Eastern Block nations, plus anti-capitalist hackers living in the West. China is sending-in men of military age within the tsunami of illegal aliens. Heaven only knows how many saboteurs there are among that crew.

      Bingo

I'm living in a rural county; nevertheless, when one's nation goes from orderly to chaotic, it is bizarre, surreal. I was born during the first Eisenhower administration. My mom voted Democrat. Dad voted Republican. Back then, there was none of this anger and animosity between political parties. During the 1968 presidential election, Hubert Humfrey ran on the Democratic Party ticket. He was a good guy and there was absolutely nothing radical about him. He was pro-America -- everybody was. The 1968 election saw no vulgar mud-slinging. Now everyone is furious. The nation is totally divided. Six million illegal aliens have been allowed to invade our country.

Vulnerability is intrinsic in modern systems. No matter how good the firewall is, if someone made it someone else can get into it (the old "safe breakers" used to say that too).

Put all your eggs in one basket and you are assured to have a problem eventually.

Federal agencies attempt to prosecute those who know how to build firewalls robust enough such that Big Brother can't defeat. This is much the same as rapist governments go after those who know how to encrypt messaging to a degree that Big Brother can't hack the comm.

Rapist government has the same mindset as sexual aggressors who attack women and little boys.

put everything online that needs electricity to function and then dont build enough power stations, eventually demand will outstrip supply.

I think that this is actually happening at the moment. The new Hinkley C nuclear power station is obviously being built to increase supply. I have read in the MSM that to meet all our future demands another six would need to be built. Looking beyond the headlines and adjusting down for MSM BS it would certainly imply that we are short of power stations.

One of the key factors in "going green" will be increasing demand from an "all electric" society. This is not just cars, but the move from gas and oil to electricity in domestic, industrial and commercial heating.

TPTB suggest will will be net zero by 2035 (2030 in some countries) and that idea is utterly deluded, not least as we do not have enough time to build the infrastructure.

I give and example of this. I the UK there are still many railway lines that are not fully electrified. A recent programme to electrify the lines to the West was curtailed at Bristol ( under half way to the target) due to cost. To reach as far as Bristol had taken 7 or 8 years. If one does the maths it is not possible, even if start tomorrow, to complete the task. In many areas of the country the lines are electrified and, yet, one of the major sources of motive power is still Diesel engines (why is this I wonder, are electric locomotives not powerful for heavy freight?).

My point is that here today, one tomorrow politicians can flap their gums and announce whatever they want, but money and boots on the ground are what will make it happen and we have neither.

2035 is 2 government terms away and anything can happen in that time, they reckon " a week is a long time in politics", hell we could be at war long before that.

You're absolutely right and, yes, we could easily be at war before that.

All the more reason to keep our current fuel systems in place I would think.

we need all our manufacturing to be made in the UK, probably too late for all of it as it is easier and cheaper to rely on foreign suppliers but some of it could be brought back with the right investment. the trouble is that our politicians here in the UK are all internationalists and globalists, patriotism and national sovereignty are offensive to them.

I'm thinking that SHTF events will happen this year, 2024.

    I'm doing many "last-minute" preps.

Here in the USSA, the upcoming November election is going to cause the Left to act. The Democratic Party has no valid candidate; therefore, they are in panic mode and will do anything to shut down this year's election cycle.

Whatever Leftist / globalist group is running the White House is going to allow a catastrophe to happen, or start one themselves.

It's my sincere belief that this year, we will see raw hell -- war, grid collapse, ..., anything so that martial law can be invoked. Too, the sheeple are being set-up for Pandemic X.

Hell on Earth is this way coming and very quickly so. Any thoughts about plans for 2026 or beyond are futile. This ship is at the waterfall's edge.

SHTF could happen anytime but personally I think it wont happen until we see who wins the Ukraine war.
that could take a year, it could take two, but I think it will be decided soon.

The only chance of manufacturing returning to the UK would be if we, as consumers, bought UK made products wherever possible. There are those who do, but due to the small manufacturing volumes of the few remaining UK manufactures home grown products are expensive.

Small steps can be taken though, buying British food in the supermarket is a start, it helps British farmers and also helps to make British farming more resilient for the future.

When the government slaps big enough tariffs on the imports that allow the local manufactures to compete, then you will see a drop off from foreign made products. Then let the fair market ( consumers) decide. The governments can also use the new tariff money to help subsidize the local companies.

Here in the States we have "farmers' market" days. Y'all like have these also. Say like every Saturday during harvest seasons (harvest times differ by crop type) a parking lot in any given small town is set aside for the local growers to bring in their produce. We go to those.

Often, they'll have items you can't get at the grocery such as jams and jellies that use locally-grown berries, local honey (helps many people with their allergies), veggies that groceries do not stock, ... .

During apple season, growers occupy a large section of parking lots. Why sell to a retailer when you can set up some tents and sell directly to the locals?! Oh, and by the way, these growers sell-out rather quickly so one gets there early.

My paternal grandmother was very picky when it came to the apples she'd buy. My grandparents and numerous neighbors had cherry trees. The next door neighbor had a cherry orchard but only one apple tree. When a kid, I picked cherries for the neighbors (and mowed their lawns; did gardening; many folk there were elderly and other kids were just too lazy, I guess). In fall of the year, we'd head up into the mountains where the apple orchards were, LARGE operations these. Our little town was at around 1,300 ft altitude, but apples grew better at elevations of 3,000-ish ft altitudes -- cooler up there and all. This wasn't a long drive; little towns occupied the valleys, everyone being surrounded by mountain ranges (4 to 6 thousand ft elevations). We'd return with bushel baskets of apples Grandma had selected. She'd always be eating them, she baked pies, and then the rest, she'd can for winter.

At higher yet elevations, people grew Christmas trees for the city folk.

Some people also had high pastureland for the few cattle they owned. Can't raise cattle on the sides of mountains where people's cabins were. Too steep to raise cattle. When families were out visiting (a required activity), I'd hunt groundhogs with cousins up in the high pastures (4 to 5 thousand ft altitude). Groundhog holes run into the ground at an angle. If a cow steps in one of these holes, it snaps the cow's leg. Groundhog meat does NOT taste good -- way too gamey for me.

we have weekly markets and farm shops in my location but not everyone has them, wife's brother and nephew who live in a larger urban environment have 4 or 5 supermarkets but no farmers markets or farm shops.
wife's brother used to buy his meat supplies when he came to the South West- he had an office down here, but since his wife died many years ago he eats out, very little food in his house. a typical sheeple.
