Trolls are not very sneaky. Maybe there is still hope for him though. You have to post to really be a part of a community. If he really wanted to sell his game he needs to do a lot more than a one liner. I actually think that a survival game would be fun if it was well made and thought out.

First thing you need to decide about a game that you are developing is what its primary aim and intention is going to be. Will it just be for entertainment or will it primarily be more educational. Entertainment can be done as a board game like the game "Life" or it can be formed into more of a card and dice based game like dungeon and dragons.

A more educational aim might go into something like trivial pursuit that tests and adds to your knowledge on the various survival subjects. I actually have a card based game that is sort of like this with questions and answers on cards. Correct answers move you forward while incorrect ones move you back or don't move you.

You might divide the game into several areas that cover the various disaster type scenarios. In the first part of the game you are gathering skills, survival items and the type of style you want to use...bug in, bug out, group, solo, urban, rural, out into the wild. Then in the second part you are placed into the various scenarios to see how your gathering works out. Monopoly is a little like this.

You might also have this game at several levels depending on the age or experience levels of the players.

Possibly even more like the old text based Zork games where you're informed that you made the wrong choice and were killed and eaten. Start over again.
