Smart gun technology is taking a reasonably reliable firearm and making it a complex an unreliable firearm to protect the criminals. Regular firearms work just fine to protect law abiding citizens. Grab your firearm to protect yourself and discover the battery is dead OR how about after it hits the fan and there are no batteries. A solution in search of a mystical problem.

    It's ridiculous.
There's no such thing as "sensible gun control".

That's a word game designed to make anyone who doesn't agree look "non-sensical".

Gun deaths are at historic lows despite the fact there are many millions more guns than there were 50 years ago.

If "smart guns" are a good idea, the the police and military test them for a decade before forcing them on the public.

    Good afternoon Old Geezer,

Yes, California is the land of madness and socialism.

Those California utilities, like PG&E, can be held liable for wildfires even if not negligent. They therefor take the only route left and cut off the electricity.

    Good morning all,

    This week's issue......

I linked it to first feature article that got my attention: the medics' Ready Reserve and a retirement package.

There are other "low profile" programs like this but can only, in practical terms ,be discussed in meetings and not the web.

I get loads of emails on prep against disease, radiological "dirty" bombs and the other new stuff that we as a nation have much work to do to prepare.

Well and they refuse to acknowledge their piss poor management of water. If they would incorporate regenerative ag practices along with permaculture principles they could go a long way to regenerating their aquifers. But instead they arrest and fine people if they in anyway dam up or add retention earth works that in reality slow down the water and allow it to penetrate back into the ground. start it up high in the mountains so when they do get rain it slows runoff down to prevent erosion and mud slides. But like Cali will ever adopt anything scientific and logical, just go by gut and what feels right.

    Good afternoon Country Guy,

Speaking about water and the People's Democratic Republic of California, I just read an article discussing this.

In the weekend Sat-Sun 2-3 Nov 19 Wall Street Journal is an article titled "Despite Wildfires and Drought. California Keeps Building" by Mark Arax. He's a journalist and author of "The Dreamt Land: Chasing Water and Dust Across California".

WSJ is now paywalled so can't link but here are a couple of excerpts from article:

"..Stewart Resnick. He grows more almonds, pistachios, oranges and pomegranates than any other person in the world and uses nearly as much water each year as the whole city of Los Angeles."

"Newhall Ranch. When it's finished, it will be the largest master-planned community in California history - 21,500 dwellings, seven public schools and a golf course, rising right where the 2017 Rye Fire jumped Interstate 5 and scorched the same ground."

"the Central Valley Project and the State Water Project...1940s to the 1960s ... The Aqueduct has subsided to such a degree that entire stretches have lost their gravity flow. Californians now spend tens of millions of dollars a year in extra electrical costs to pump the water through the dead spots."

    Good afternoon all,

    This week's HPN.

At top left, glance at article on proposal for border security along the northern US border.

It's sponsor is US Senator Jon Tester (D. MT). Proposal "...provide annual grants to state, local and tribal law enforcement...".

These construction contracts coupled to annual grants do wonders for national security.

It's about time to guard our northern areas.

$110 M over 5 years is $22 M/yr. With a 4,000 mile border that appears to be another way to give money away to no purpose.

The greater threat today is the southern border. Let's get that sealed up and then address the northern border. Canada does present a problem with their allowing of people from terrorist nations but right now known terrorists are coming across from Mexico plus the criminal organisations (cartels) are running rampant importing criminals, drugs, and slaves.

When your boat is on fire and sinking you have to stop the flooding before fighting the fire. The fire, from Canada, is minimal compared to the flood coming in from Mexico.

    Good morning Caribou,

I like the analogy. It's my style !

Protecting against Bullwinkle the Moose drifting into Minnesota with a couple of Cuban cigars is less important than tons of illegal drugs smuggled by Mexican criminals into the US.
