When you're heading out into the wild, you should be prepared. It’s important that your bags are organized and that your kits have items specific to your environmental needs and skill level. Also making your own survival kit is all on you. First, make it convenient enough that you will carry it with you and not leave it at home. Second, use the listed items sparingly, or as a guide more so and customize it to your needs. For instance, if you are allergic to insects, bring the appropriate medicine, or carry appropriate amounts of nonperishable food. Have a comfortable bag that is roomy enough to fit the essentials. It's also smart to have your bag be waterproof so it can withstand the elements. Be sure to have a water bottle, fire starter or lighter, utility knife, an emergency fishing kit, and a compass at the very least. It would be smart to pack for the terrain you are heading into. Rope is always a good thing to have just in case. Dental floss can be used for string traps or fishing wire. Get creative and see what works out best for you. Depending on your weather and where you go be sure to pack accordingly.
