Sweden and the U.K. are not so very different. The masses kiss the butts of the elitist check writers. The taxmen all claim to be Robin Hood. The original citizens, the "men" of these countries, turn in their firearms and drop their pants. The newly-arrived gangs enjoy the teenage girls of the lands they now inhabit.

On another subject. If I lived someplace where the big threat was thugs with knives I would wear a heavy leather vest or at least have a leather piece protecting my chest and stomach. I work in leather. I also make knives. I've done the tests and most knives just aren't pointed OR sharp enough to penetrate heavy leather. The leather that I use to make belts and holsters with is about 1/8", .125", 3.175mm thick. If you want to know how resistant that is to go out and try to stab the sidewall of a tire that isn't mounted on a wheel or slash it. Most knives that a thug might carry just aren't good enough. You might get nicked but it will protect you more than you would think. The tire will give and deflect the knife. It is a lot easier to do to an inflated tire.

Actually Pragmatist you are misquoting me - please read the the thread again, the quote regarding "without rule of law" is not mine, although it is a good philosophical point. I am tempted toward the idea that "a crime is anything that has a victim", however many acts that have victims are not illegal, and legality is viewed differently throughout the world.

Clearly you have never been to Sweden. Your comments regarding similarities between Sweden and the UK are very misguided. As I have written on this thread before, the two countries have totally different socio-political systems and the peoples are quite different. I am sorry to have to tell you that trawling up a few web pages to support your (misguided) argument will not convince me. It is almost as wide of the mark as if I were to suggest that the US and Mexico were very similar due to a shared border.

TEX. that poor bastard was part of a criminal group that murdered somebody. The only failure was allowing anybody to turn states evidence and get off the hook. Capital cases maybe very expensive but with a mandatory death penalty, then fewer people will commit the crimes. As for the innocent, with our current and increasing technology, there will be a lot less innocent convicted.

The British System of Justice is very weak and has been made weaker over the years, I knew someone who was in prison for 10 years and he had to serve two thirds of his sentence before he was released, that was some time ago, now it is down to half of sentence served, probably because of the overcrowding nature of our prisons, I heard talk of more prisons to be built but so far its just talk.

    Good morning Brown Bear,

My apology if I misquoted you.

Had thought you were referring to something written by TMT Tactical that you believed had a philosophical point to it.

    Regardless, apology here.

    Related to immediately above:

President Reagan was NOT the victim of a crime. The shooter was deemed mentally ill by a jury of his peers. His level of mental illness precluded him from committing a crime. The jury's verdict had nothing to do with the Reagan program to disestablish some welfare programs.

Civilization is new. Advanced-level civilization is very, very new.

A great book I read - at least great to me - is Oswald Spengler's 1918 "THE DECLINE OF THE WEST".

    Good morning Brown Bear,

There are basic common denominators between British and Swedish society. Both nations have more similarities than when comparing each with, for example, a Central Asian nation or a sub-Sahara nation.

A major common denominator being discussed in this thread is recent immigrant populations. These recent immigrants do not arrive from a family / community background with perhaps a Lutheran or Presbyterian cultural factor. They are arriving from being a product of Islamic societies of the Middle East.

An acid test: Review and compare how many of these new immigrants deal with women.

The US is not Sweden and we have similar problems with this same category of immigrant.

There are, of course, some basic common denominators, we are all caucasian for starters. Yes Sweden too has immigrants and, like the UK, rather more than most people are comfortable with. To be fair though, immigrants from an Islamic background are not coming in huge numbers. Figures today on BBC TV news suggested around 50k from Eastern Europe and around 200k for the rest of the world, but, that includes people from South East Asia and India, who are mostly not Muslims. I believe the emphasis on immigration by Muslim peoples has been blown out of proportion, and the majority of our Muslim population are thoroughly decent people. Most western countries have immigration. Spain/Portugal/Italy and Southern France have large amounts of immigration from Africa. It is just how it is. After all your nation is largely composed of immigrants and descendants of immigrants. The UK is largely composed of descendants of immigrants too - the timescale is just a bit longer (over the past 2000 years - Romans, Saxons, Vikings, Normans, Flemish etc etc).

I dislike one of the other postings going on about it, not least because the article that purports to support the claim is 18 months out of date. Old news does not make a valid comparison.

So things getting better in the last few weeks?! LOL

As to societal trends, 3yr, 5yr+ are but a blip. Teeny tiny thingies. We were let out of school the day JFK was shot down Dallas way. America has become dirtier and dirtier and dirtier ever since Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society". Of increasing government checks being doled out, Johnson had this to say, "Those n*gg*rs will be voting Democrat for the next 100 years!" What a marvelous human, Lyndon!

    Good afternoon Brown Bear,

The current immigration programs and the caustic situations are guaranteed. The discussed nations have labor shortages - and this is occurring during time of few jobs and limited housing opportunities. During uptick economic times, not too many care about a new ethnic neighborhood or large numbers of Indian PhDs and their wives teaching throughout the area university. During economic contractions, aforesaid are glaring highlights and symbolize some domestic political problems.

All above is not occurring in a vacuum. Major warfare is in Islamic areas: the Middle East, Pakistan - Afghanistan, Central Asia, sub-Sahara Africa......

Of course most Muslims emigrating to European nations and the US are decent people. The criminal element and "sleeper" terrorists along with local area converts to Islam mushroom the situation. Now add the political dimension. Some US public schools must address the need for Sharia-compliant foods in the cafeteria. In recent years France had national legislative debates on Muslim women and their head coverings in public.

The para re the 18 month old unreliable info..........It is better for stale news to be discussed and clarified than neglecting the subject.

Here in the States, the issues are less to do with immigration than illegal immigration. The illegal immigration also has a large cost. The Red Cross, HIAS, CRS and the rest of the "charities" get stipends and other funds for "helping" the down-trodden immigrants. Resentments occur because concurrent with helping immigrants, veterans health care services are like the Royal London Hospital White Chapel, East London, ...... and many other national and regional examples. That's why I use the expression "caustic situations".

Nearly forgot: Here in the upstart colonies, we have a large national component on welfare - not working but provided for. The economic stresses are real. Again: "caustic situations".

One of the things that I most enjoy here is the difference in world views that the people here represent. So much of what we each think of as common sense things are actually cultural based views. This gives us a much wider view of things than a forum that is more nationally based. Even in the USA, there is a just huge difference between the way the different states view and deal with things.

    Definition of humanity

1 : compassionate, sympathetic, or generous behavior or disposition : the quality or state of being humane

Europe, including the UK, and the Americas to a lesser extent have adopted the attitude that everyone is to be treated in a "Humane" manner and that all humans will agree to conduct themselves in this way. We show sympathy and compassion to those that murder, rape and steal and expect them to change, when we talk harshly to them or take part of freedoms for a period of time. This is a delusion. A delusion propagated by those that we have elected to political office.

Why? Why would our elected officials lie to us and propagate a delusion.

My answer,...Control. People that are humane are easier to control and if they are generous, they will not complain when you tell them you need more of there freedoms and wealth to keep them "safe". People that feel safe don't respond with the fight or flight response that is built into each of us. When people feel safe, they try to maintain that feeling, at any cost. The cost is usually that politicians take more of our freedoms and wealth, and insure us that they are keeping us safe. Propagating the delusion even more. This delusion began many years ago when citizens on both continents were reasonably safe, enough so that most never locked a door at home.

    So, what has changed?

Barbarians! They are not at the door. They kicked the door open and walked right in, and many invited them in. Some came from other lands and we created the others.

    Definition of barbaric

1a : of, relating to, or characteristic of a group of people who are alien to another land, culture, or people and who are usually believed to be inferior : of, relating to, or characteristic of barbarians

b : possessing or characteristic of a cultural level more complex than primitive (see primitive entry 1 sense 2c) culture but less sophisticated than advanced civilization (see civilization sense 1a)

2a : marked by a lack of restraint : wild

Wild....as in wild child. Acting wild. How many times over the years have you thought this of someone else's children. maybe, even your own children. Those children are grown and rioting in the streets, burning buildings and attacking innocent people. It isn't as funny as there mom yelling at them. People aren't expected to conform to society or conduct themselves appropriately any more. So now, we reap what we have sown.

In a SHTF world, one must know areas to avoid. It would be good to now be mapping areas where violence is already over-the-top in good times. European Socialist "leaders" do not like the term "no-go areas". Nevertheless if there are areas where police and emergency services avoid even now, then that makes for a good suggestion of where NEVER to get within miles of during a SHTF event.

Today in L.A., police must warn civilized people who have gotten off the interstate in the wrong neighborhood (usually to buy gasoline) to get their car filled then get out. Sometimes, especially after sunset, police escort people out of danger areas and back onto the interstate.

Each country and each area of individual countries now have areas that are no longer safe for civilized humans to live. The violence is simply too high.

Thanks for thoughts Pragmatist - I think we have different viewpoints - here are my counterthoughts:

Immigration will, obviously, cause unease and there are those who will not settle into the new areas in which they live. I disagree about about shortages, we have unemployment in the uk - around 1.5 million - that's mot representative of a shortage.

Yes, you are quite right, there are wars throughout a large part of the Muslim world. But as a simple statement that does not reflect the simple fact that most of that was either caused by, or exacerbated by western powers. 9/11 aside - which could not go unchallenged, the war in Iraq was sold (certainly to the UK populace) as a response to weapons of mass destruction, which did not exist. The uprising in Libya, exacerbated by the west. The war in Syria, promulgated by western powers and Russia for political reasons. The war in Yemen, encouraged by the UK who, having condemned it, still sell Saudi Arabia the weaponry to fight it. In summary, to wholly blame Islamic peoples for these wars in not only incorrect, but being partisan over the role of the west in these matters.

I believe there are less terrorist sleeper cells Thant he mainstream media would have us believe. We went through a difficult few years in the UK after 9/11, with an unsophisticated attack on 7/7 the following year followed by a number of disparate attacks for several years. The UK police have got up to speed and mostly we hear of proactive raids etc. to prevent the attacks before they get off the ground.

Old unreliable info - debate yes, produce to as "proof" of a current situation, as Old Geezer continues to do is not only effectively spreading "false news" but distorting the discussion. If it has a place to be debated (and why shouldn't it be?) then it should be debated on a separate thread where past events are analysed. By continually bringing it up and implying that is is current to today's immediate situation OG has not only undermined this thread, but also the integrity of anything he now posts. I feel that moving forward I will, sadly, be inclined to disregard his points of view as I now feel them to be unreliable. That is a loss to me of the voice of a previously valuable contributor.

I understand that illegal immigration in the US is a far larger problem than in the UK. We have the English Channel/La Manche as a natural barrier and to get in would require effort and tenacity. It does happen, only a week or so ago a lorry was stopped containing 39 foreign nationals who, very sadly, perished on the journey.

In the UK grants (stipends) are paid to support charities for all poorer and lower paid people and, of course, our healthcare service is free at the point of delivery (there is also a private healthcare system) so, I guess less resentment in that area as a result.

As an afterthought, we do tend to get immigrants settling in particular areas but that, I feel, is that the UK is not especially welcoming and they tend to settle amongst their now people (as would I in a strange land)

    :)

    Good morning Brownbear,

I don't view labor shortages in numbers for basic labor hours. I look at the needed job skills. Both the US and UK - and several of the other "Atlantic Alliance" nations have health-care labor shortages. This is a major frustration here in the US.

BB, I only wrote simple sentences because of this medium. If we'd get a MSF.COM meeting house ... I suggest the Dutch Caribbean ... I brink my file-folders, maps, charts, reports, ...

As far as "exacerbated by western powers", I agree. It's got something to do with oil and trade routes (Suez Canal, 1869,1975). I only wrote: *** "major warfare is in Islamic areas" *** Do recall Nasser's Egypt was somewhat secular at the monied class, Beirut was nicknamed the "Paris of the eastern Mediterranean", The area changed - and still is changing.

Quantities of terrorist sleeper cells do not govern. The cost to address the threat is large and this cost is felt by the Middle Class. Of course public safety costs are grossly inflated - but these costs are still present and are being paid for by the public.

"If you believe the doctors, nothing is wholesome.
If you believe the theologians, nothing is innocent.
If you believe the soldiers, nothing is safe."
    LORD SALISBURY

Heck, sometimes an accurate point of view presents trends and understands background facts but omits the background facts - FOR CLARIFICATION. I believe it was Lord Tennyson who developed and explained this method. Old Geezer is using this writing technique. The above "Rodney McKing" was to me as clear as white light passing through a prism.

Some of the US "charities" receiving public stipends support executive compensation packages of large salaries, generous retirement plans, fringe benefits, with one of these fringe benefits being college tuition for the executives' children up to the masters' degree. President Trump is stopping this. You can hear the howling east of Greenwich.

When I'm reporting the false news, I even make-up the photographs of the events that never happened.

Sweden is NOT having hand-grenade attacks. London is NOT experiencing knife attacks.

A whole bunch of us crazy people are getting together and pretending these fantasies into existence.

"No go" areas do not exist and it is perfectly safe for the kum ba yah people to go there to shop, especially after the sun goes down.

I created the following photographs, see what you think. Me, I worked a lot on these and feel like these faux photos look rather real.

Here is an article from way back in 2019:

Immigration should be based on what the immigrant brings to the table, not based on color, religion, national origin. What a novel concept. No discrimination, just best best candidate to improve the county. I also think only allowing in the best candidates, will also help lower the crime rates. The best candidates will be self supporting and have no need to commit crimes.

    Hear, hear.

Here in The States, such talk is considered raw bigotry, however. Seems that if one is possessed of abilities, it is due to "white privilege". If other races of humanity lack in abilities, it is due to their having been oppressed, so goes the argument. Minorities with abilities are worshiped.

that's one reason why 17.4 million people in the UK voted to leave the EU, immigrants come from their country of origin then into Europe from where there is "free movement of people", once we leave the EU this will stop, under a Conservative government at least.
