i'd trust any dog before I would trust any human.

In the half-dozen decades of my life and among the dozen or so dogs I've owned, only one dog among them was disloyal / only semi-friendly. I've had run-ins (involving my loosing a tad of blood) with "domesticated" dogs, but they were made evil by humans. Even among dog breeds that can be used for aggressive intent, one finds the majority quite well behaved around humans. If a canine is half dog and half wolf, then one or the other side will become its nature -- if it goes wolf, then it can never be trusted. Dogs over millennia have been bred to be loyal and thus they are.

typical, there is more to survival than reproducing the next generation. if there isn't enough food to eat they will all die anyway.

A study conducted by the University of Buffalo.

This is particularly interesting because anyone who has ever played MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role playing game) with an open world environment will tell you that the majority of players are selfish jerks. They will kill you for no reason, much like The Governor, and there are examples of humanity far worse than Murrell. No one shares anything and most players simply kill other players on sight.

Although I wouldn't bet my life on this, it does give you pause for thought.

The people making the decisions during the collapse, the ones surviving the collapse, will be the doers in society -- soldiers, welders, farmers, repair tech.s, hunters, oil riggers, organized criminals (not drug-dealing gangs, like the Bloods and Crips; only the MS-13 crews of the street gang types will survive), business people who are willing to shoot interlopers may get by if they have product (ammo and beans), ... . Few, if any, of the weak will survive. Politician types get where they are due to the votes, the support, of the weak -- when it hits the fan, politicians will not be in any particular demand, as will be the case with their lawyer buddies. Theory people and non-skilled folk will perish.

someone choice of occupation is NOT going to guarantee them survival after the collapse, not matter what that occupation is.

Good question! I myself would only be in a group if the had the perfect base like a fallout shelter and if some people I knew came with. I think I would be a great lone wolf though.

I would just like to say that if you wanna get children you have to think of things, like how safe is your base, are there any threats, do you have enough supplies and so on.

and how do you know you can trust them to watch your back?
there is an old prepper saying : " if you don't know them, haven't worked with them or spent time with them, then DONT trust them". words to live by, I know I do-every day.

Even family can turn on family!
    Seen it happen many times!

What is all good and cosy in the old world may not be in the new world!
What happens when you turn away that lazy no good brother in law?
What about the single mother sister in law with her three fat kids?
The Alpha male makes his decrees and the rest are expected to go along!

Somewhere down the line and not very far at all everything falls apart!

Anyone who thinks they have it sorted is simply deluding themselves
and needs to seriously get some people education in to them.

What your partner says and go's along with now just to keep the peace is
in most cases far from what they actually think!
and you will only find out what they actually think when the SHTF!
Turning family away in theory is easy, turning them away in reality is a whole nuther ball game!

It is like killing, very easy in theory and on a screen but a whole nuther thing for real!

I would put more faith in survivors who have been through it than family that were sheltered from it!
A person who has spent a month or so surviving will be so relieved to be part of a group that a broken finger nail
wont be worth mentioning, whereas the protected princess will bitch about all and sundry!
