Bold lettering is Old Geezer's emphasis.

"A total of 3030 participants were randomly assigned to the recommendation to wear masks, and 2994 were assigned to control; 4862 completed the study. Infection with SARS-CoV-2 occurred in 42 participants recommended masks (1.8%) and 53 control participants (2.1%). The between-group difference was −0.3 percentage point (95% CI, −1.2 to 0.4 percentage point; P = 0.38) (odds ratio, 0.82 [CI, 0.54 to 1.23]; P = 0.33). Multiple imputation accounting for loss to follow-up yielded similar results. Although the difference observed was not statistically significant, the 95% CIs are compatible with a 46% reduction to a 23% increase in infection.

"The recommendation to wear surgical masks to supplement other public health measures did not reduce the SARS-CoV-2 infection rate among wearers by more than 50% in a community with modest infection rates, some degree of social distancing, and uncommon general mask use. The data were compatible with lesser degrees of self-protection."

Here's the deal, wear your masks where people are condensed. Stay away from crowds composed of people from varied places. You are in a mall during Christmas shopping season and this mall gets visitors from MANY varying communities. The mall is crowded. Wear your mask in such places and, for heaven's sake, wear a mask and gloves when in airports.

During normal times, DO NOT rub your eyes. Keep your dang fingers out of your nose. Use clean tissues or use your well-washed bandana or handkerchief. What is under your fingernails? You don't know and maybe you do not want to know. One of the first lessons in your microbiology class is culturing fresh "pure" pasteurized milk -- it is teaming with bacteria just ready to go turbo should it be exposed to any warmth. Your petri dish is destined to grow all manner of space alien crud having all manner of colors.

During flu seasons, all common sense precautions are quadruply important! If you have immune issues, wear gloves during flu season. If people point and stare, so what. Just like your mamma told you, keep your hands very clean. And again, if around wads of people who you have zero idea of where they call home, wear a mask.

What we are seeing in society is the politicization of a contagion. AIDS is downplayed by political correctness. Sexual contacts involving the end of the lower bowel are deemed "alternate", as opposed to "that is beyond unsanitary, never do that." Opposing unnatural sexual behaviors is High Treason in the Church of Secular Humanism. On the other hand (what a poor choice of words), according to the high priests of Secular Humanism, Chinacovid is not from China. Chinacovid is something to fear and a reason to shut down society along with the nation's economy. According to the collectivists, government can print money for three or four eternities and this will not hurt anything. After all, holy government is the eternal golden calf.

    LOL, LOL,LOL,LOL, .......

    Good morning Old Geezer,

Still laughing and exerting much energy even while still in recovery from shingles shot/jab:

"On the other hand (..." !

I like people to stare at me, especially when waiting outside grocery store waiting for opening. I won't initiate conversation but many will make positive comments on my D-I-Y googles and mask. Also being nice and pleasant, I mention eye protection is also required to confront the virus. They don't wipe down the shopping cart handles with disinfectant in my presence.

So true: "the politication of a contagion". Some downstream political benefits:

New and large public school buildings in plantation settings going away.
The bloated non-educator (repeat: non-educator) staffs getting whittled down.
Airline capacity going to the aircraft boneyards.
    Hotel/motel industry forced to adjust.
Restaurant trade must pay their labor force to include health care of some sort. This is pending 21 January 2021.
Empty office buildings ideal for homeless shelters.

Even as the nuclear family is the backbone of a civilization, so too is small business. When most folk think of the word "industry", they imagine large buildings. Social Democrats sure do and then immediately think of taxing and unionizing that industry's labor force, "We can suck money out of that!" But if a country loses small businesses, that country has just busted its foundation. Where do folk get their first jobs? Where do people work to put themselves through college? People who barely make it out of high school are the ones who get the handouts to go to college (where the standards are now lowered to accommodate their insufficient I.Q.s). Diligent kids often go to technical schools, hurrah! But now that we have a New World Order ☭prez☭, the jobs for which they trained will be filled by slaves in ☭China☭. When the Clintons sold-out to the communists, at least they were semi-open about their slime trails. The sheep came up to lick Bill's signet ring.

Now that this nation is looking towards national shutdowns following shutdowns following shutdowns, we the people will be seeing an economic shutdown of the permanent variety. The socialists will simply print quadrillions of dollars. Maybe that will fix everything.

    Good afternoon Old Geezer,

The small business without employee health insurance ... and anticipating a nationalization of health care under a Harris administration - is really a GSE - a Government Sponsored Enterprise. The USG pays for the health care of those without their own funded access to care.

So, too, the mid and large businesses without a retirement package of some sort. This generated the establishment of the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation ... of course, it's currently insolvent ... to fill the need. The giant companies like the traditional auto companies are like national commentator Mark Steyn said are merely welfare programs with a sideline of assembling some cars.

Currently we do not have a foundation. About half of Americans receive some type of government check. These checks come from a pile of monopoly money. A recovery from this yields inflation - and this is considered by some to be good news.

My guess is that first jobs will be in new types of charter schools incorporating apprentice programs like those of yesteryear. An aspiring physicial will learn the basics and then work a merit badge ladder to the goal.

Can't guess what and how colleges will evolve into. The current college environment, less the new community colleges, are artificial, to include the finishing schools, the charm schools and the inherance places like the New England Ivy League places.

From what I'm hearing, paper money is going to leave the scene and replaced by a plastic card. FDR did something similiar with gold.

Hate to be bleak but I'm a pragmatist.

China has already made successful hacks into our computer networks (these were just tests to see if they could; they worked, but was minor scale stuff). When things really start going sideways, electronic transfers will be shut-down or susceptible to hacking thefts. Some idiots are thinking about bitcoin as an economic survival tool. If you don't have something physical in your pocket, then it does not exist, period.

As I am oft stating on this and other sites....

We are looking at Mass "Herding" coming to America as the new norm.

Just as took place in Soviet Russia....Da Tovarich!!??

And most of this history and information has been denied to the Average American today ....resulting in a movie and television education in rabid emotions...not thinking for ones self..

I still can't quite get it through my skull how weak Americans have become. I've NEVER thought of myself as macho. In my world, I was considered "bookish" to the max. I had a great aunt living up in the mountains one time introduce me to some kids as, "He's done gone t'college and izza makin' good grades an' all." That's all I was to them. My cousins and I did hunt together; they knew I loved rifles.

I see oceans of Americans who can't stick their finger in their @$$ with a road map and a jar of Vaseline. I know that it is true, however this just causes me to have some sort of ideational vapor-lock. "This can't be true!" Yet, it is.
