Going to try out my new hot tent this weekend. Basically a a-frame tent with a ratchet strap for the ridge line, will be set up between two trees. Little stove inside, wall thimble for chimney.

here's a stove I made up. Burned off the galvanized and set to go.

I like the looks. Can't wait for a full report as to how it functioned.

How well does it hold the fire? Once hot, how often do you need to feed it to keep it warm and alive. I used to use a Coleman catalytic heater in my tent that would stay warm all night or at least 7 or 8 hours.

it holds a fire for about 3 hours. Most hot tent stoves I'm familiar with will not really hold all night. Some folks bundle up and sleep all night, get the fire going in the morning and others feed the stove through out the night. Depends on how cold it is, it got down to 10 degrees on this trip. The benefit of a hot tent is drying out gear and cooking.

I understand about getting things dried out and going to bed warm. Once you are warm and into your bag, you can do pretty good for a long time. If I can get four hours of sleep I am usually good to go. Six hours of continuous for me is a rare luxury.

    That fire looks fabulous.

here's some details, it was made from 26 gauge galvanized sheet iron with a 3 inch chimney. I may upsize to a 4 inch chimney. The galvanized is burned off before using. I was going to make fold down legs but instead bent up a couple angles with slots and the stove sits on those.

the beginning, its 9"x 9'' by 22 inches long. I have it a little long to hold the vent pipes.

Great shop!! I wish that I had room for a brake and shear. I don't think that I can sell the wife on another building though. I have three small shops in various sizes that allow me to have one for manufacturing, one for painting and one for small projects and repairs. I also have two 20' X 40' sheds. The best thing that we ever did was incorporating a family enterprise that we can then have several other smaller companies under. That made most of our toys legal tax deductions. My wife is a painter and crafter. LOL, one year she got a cement mixer for an anniversary present. She loved it! She made sea glass with it and then poured stepping stones and put the glass onthe surface. those actually sold very well and cost almost nothing.
