It shouldn't take $3 Million to figure out if you are in a low area you will get flooded. They are locking the barn door after the horse is gone.

The infrastructure has already been built in a flood zone. Now they are trying to figure out how to protect it. Building a levee doesn't stop flooding. It just makes it somebody else's problem. You want to avoid the flood? Move to higher ground, or don't build there in the first place.

    Good morning Morgan,

Here's some D.C. area heights above sea level:

Reagan Int'l Airport: 49 feet above sea level
Dover, Delaware and nearby Dover AFB: 26 ft.
    Fredericksburg, Virginia: 49 ft.
Quantico, Virginia: 0 (zero) next to water.

There was once a move to phase out Reagan airport and augment Dulles Airport. The move collapsed because Reagan, in Arlington County, is more convenient to Capital Hill, the Pentagon and the rest of the places of the swamp.

Sounds like those places would flood if the humidity went up. Heaven forbid we do anything that makes sense, and inconveniences the politicians. Have to ever been the Schipol Airport in Amsterdam? I couldn't find an exact photo, but it would be at around 9:00 on this shot there is a clock tower. If you look up about 15' there is a neon light that says Sea Level.

    Good evening Morgan,

I've transited AMS airport but didn't know it's elevation. I did know there's a reason for the dikes and remember reading the WWII flooding plans against the enemy.
