Good morning all, Where the binocular pivots between each lens housing, what is the lubricant used ? It looks like the same stuff sometimes seen on a personal computer battery - at least seen in the old days overseas. Thanks in advance. ...... I am hoping it's acceptable to place this question in this site category of navigation understanding some use binoculars for bird watching, OPSEC, etc.
I have used WD40 on old rusted pairs and have used lithium grease (in light applications) on a few pairs. But was years ago. Dale
Good morning Dale and Varuna, Thank you, I will be using lithium applied with an old dental instrument. Varuna; Consider getting out the Nikon gyro-stabilized w/ DME and "see" if NOT using them often might require lubrication. They were stored in one of the driest places on earth and not used for at least 2 decades. Personally speaking, with failing vision, a servant will help out more than even artillery binoculars with lens add-ons for nuc war.
I use a dab of gun slick on mine. It's graphite based. If you don't already have some, it's probably not critical to pick some up for that purpose.
Good morning Randy, Appreciate the tip. If gun slick is what I remember (vaguely recall reel slick also) as anhydrous (spell?) graphite, had loved it. Will shop around for a couple of tubes of the stuff.
Thanks for the name Randyt. I've been trying to remember it for a couple years and hadn't had my memory jogged. I also need a couple tubes. The stuff works great on roller lock actions like my MP5. Thanks! Dale
Good afternoon Snyper, Thank you for link. I also use WD-40 to lube zippers. To keep the lube off the fabric, I apply the stuff via a paint sponge ... like used to stain wood.
ya know WD 40 is available in "paint stick" like thingie. Not sure what to call it, it is similar to a tide stain stick as well.
Good morning Randy, Just put next to me one of those paint stick things. The label says "WD-40 No-Mess Pen". It's a chisel-tip applicator about the size of a felt-tip marking pen. I carry one around when doing responder work.
